Hi guys, im new to S4. Months back i had my water pump change as it was leaking and mech say faulty and b4 change i rode a few time e light temp turn on, and i had to stop to let it cool. After change, e mech did flush n put in new coolant. Now no temp light on. But correct me i im wrong, a spec 1 wen switch on, e temp n oil light will both on n will switch off when u start engine right? Cos wen i on my bike its just e oil light dat on, n i had never took notice of e lights till now. N less den 3 month e coolant resovour is dry.. Is this a prob? Whats my next step of action? Thank in advance guy..

Only the oil light is on when turn key on as a "self check"..the coolant temp is never on all the time except when coolant temp hits 112 degree Celsius. Coolant do get used up..chck every 3 to 6 months and top up at he reserve tank up to the second level line indicator. Rate off coolant usage depends on bike usage..like in heavy traffics or riding slow tend evaporate more. All said..your situation is normal.

Hi Ah Pek, does the 112degC applies to all version of S4? Thanks.

I should think so as long as its radiator fan swtich is Honda originals. Those that u see on some S4 with a twin blade connectors are not (for cars - at 85-95 degree Celsuis)..original only have one blade connector.

Just want to have a clear picture. My temperature indicator will light up when i get caught in a jam for too long. Still my radiator fan wont turn on. I highly doubt there's an issue with the thermostat. So im guessing its the part that triggers the fan that is faulty. What is the part? Any comments to share from you guys?

Radiator fan switch they call it simply but in technical aspect..it's a heat thermal switch (close the current supply circuit when it reach the calibrated temperature of the contact material).

Hi guys, having prob wit my radiator again.. I had change my water pump 4-5 moths back. Just today i went back from work, while riding up e MSCP i realize my my RPM increase to 1.6 when idling. higher then normal. When i park my bike while engine still running, theres a slight steam coming from under e tank. E fan was not on. When i off i can hear sizzling sound like water drip on hot engine. Not much sizzling. Like few drops only. When i touch my radiator fin it was not hot at all! I have a feeling i was riding on an overheated engine but y didnt e temp light on? What wrong with my bike? Been having all sorts of prob with this bike...

Radiator pump?

I assume you are refering to the water pump?

Btw, did you check your coolant reservoir?

Cheers!

Take off your tank n have a look at the coolant hose/ clamps/ connectors.. See for any loose joints

Trace the steam u saw, which is most prob coolant-in-contact with hot parts..

Yr head gasket might have blown, bro. Refill & recheck for leakages, to confirm.

what head gasket? block? alright im doing so as we speak. i need to fill up and on engine at the same time right? and constantly press throttle while adding right?

Check the main place wher u top out the coolant ( Located under tank)

Check the radiator cap, see if the seal still good, no crack ( Located under tank)

Check all the coolant hose joint for leakage

Check reserve coolant reservoir

Observe any difference

Sometime, a fail WaterPump might result in your coolant leaking / evaporating.. Causing your bike to heat up n temp light to come up..

May Oso caused by leaking coolant

thanks for the descriptive explanation. i the whole time fill up the resorvoir area, didnt fill up by the main one(under tank), and after first refill i realise it dries up, 2nd refill and it dries up again(take note bike switch is off, fan is running and headlight is on), 3rd refill and bam no more dry up. i believe its because the whole coolant already dried up am i right? thats why the resovoir keeps going empty since the coolant all went to the main(under tank) one?

//edit i just took over this bike this morning from my friend, he 3 months already never use the bike. so i suppose thats normal?

To see if your WaterPump is working, open the main Coolant cap when engine is COLD

Warm up the bike, when u hold the rev, the coolant level at the brim will get abit "suck-in" n when u let go the throttle, it shall go back to original level as when u started the bike.

So in other word, the coolant level will fluctuate when u play with the throttle

Be careful when coolant is hot

When changing new coolant, Fill Up from MAIN reservoir, not your reserve as u dnt know how much your bike have coolant in it

Hey guys, my radiator is haveing problems as well.

1) i think the bike is pretty hot, i'm not sure how hot is hot though. But the Temp light only lights up if i ride in heavy traffic in the middle of the day. or when there is a very bad jam.

2) i have top up the reserve reservoir a couple of times. everytime i ride, i can feel the coolent in the reserve boiling. took out the fairing to check and yes its boiling. the reserve runs empty after a few days. One of the worst was i top up then went to Jb, come back empty.

3) when the reserve is top up to the upper level, it will overflow via the pipe on the top of the reserve reservior.

4) my fan is using a manual switch. sometime, when i turn on the fan, there is a weird scratching/ screeching sound which i'm pretty sure it's from the fan but im not sure why.

Can anyone advise?

Many many thanks!!
