Coolant decrease by abit is still ok..but if need regular top up,then something is wrong, either the coolant leaks out of the engine due to waterpump gasket "koyak",hoses leaking or worst, coolant leaking into the combustion chamber...

yes can, make sure you are checking with bike standing upright, side stand may give misleading levels :dozed:

I had similar problem.

The coolant need to be top up from time to time, else the secondary tank will be empty.

Went to Planet.

Apparently, according to the uncle, muz change the whole block.

Was quoted $1600 for new block, $800 for2nd hand block.

Any way to test whether it's due to waterpump gasket "koyak" or hoses leaking ?

In this case, no need to change the whole block , right ?

Any comment, ppl ?

erm.. sry, i cant give you any constructive comment. i can just comment that normally Planet boss Ah cheong's diagnosis is quite accurate and he wun 'chop' ppl aka wun ask you to change things that no need to be changed.

Or maybe u can try going to other established motortiam to see if they also say the same thing. Quite a no. of famous shops ard.

i have check with the manual and it says 'Use only low mineral drinking water or distilled water as part of the anti-freeze solution.....The factory provides 50/50 solution of anti-freeze and distilled water in this motorcycle.....'

Anti-freeze (AF) prevent the mixture from freezing as well as prevent corrosion while Distilled water (DW) provides the cooling power. According to the manual, in cold climate, the recommendation is 60% AF and 40% DW. In hot climate, it is 40% AF and 60% DW. Since distilled water is part of the coolant mixture, it shld be ok to top up the reserve tank using distilled water as long as one does not upset the concentration by too much as too much distilled water is corrossive.

Hi...i am new here...just got a ver s...

same prob...coolant from spare container decrease easily...come to realise coolant flow out from my left side of engine...got the hole there...but its green n not milky(from my experience milky means it mix wif engine oil..not sure abt S4)...my fren told me coolant leak n piston crack...but my cousin who is the bike owner said it is over flow...so who shall i trust???confuse now...any one experience it before???

Posted

bro, i was a ver s owner as well, just bought a month ago, the leak from the side is due to the block leakage, for my case the coolant would leak when i am at idling (low speed), once the engine heat up the leak will stop.

Posted

For my case i went back for warranty claim but the shop chop me $350 for skimming and gasket. After which i discover the leak is no longer valid but the coolant still drop, the radiator now leaking coolant.

The best part is when my mechcanic from another shop open the spark plug to inspect he discovered coolant trace on the plug.

Just came back from a bike shop...the mech said i have to change the head block which cost ard $1K plus with gasket, coolant, seal and engine oil. I was like wtf sia...
