    • Increase the limits? We are already going too fast!

    • They are just fine, thank you!

    • Could be higher, but we trust the government's decision nevertheless.

    • Confident that there will be no major problems in having a higher limit, so we should get this done.

    • This is a no-brainer, change it immediately!

OFF TOPIC,

In my honest Opinion,

Accidents happen when something out of norm pop out such as ,

-that time when the NEW ERP gantry begins, drivers/bikers were video-ed for jamming brake, filtered left hazardously and also slowing down to accomodate time to insert cashcard.

-a new driver/driver new to that route saw the speed camera/speed trap/red light camera attempt to slow down in the fastest way.

-road works at certain bends where the hazard sign is not visible when traveling at 90km/hr.

-bicycle/tricycle/pedestrians at the side of the road causes car to swerve out of lane, and bikers bang down due tis behaviour.

This is pretty common, to accomodate that Foreign slow-moving object, car swerve as they like, as a result bikers are banged.

-bikers swerve due to foreign object debris flung off other moving vehicles, simple things like cloth, bottles, cardboards, stones and even ash of cigarette.

Speed limit only plays a little part of the safety measures. U can be travelling at 50km/hr being hit down and you die cos your head hit the curb.

Back to the topic, there is this stretch of road hougang ave 3 starting from the Cross Junction of Tampines road to Lorong Ah Soo, the speed limit is 60km/hr despite there's NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS in between, 3-4 BRIDGES for Predestrians, full fletched RAILINGS and only 2 left filter road and only 1 U-turn.

Most of the time the road seems empty. But the traffic Police always hide at the bridges. Is this a test of speed discipline or a simple revenue for TP to gain money?

Think what the threadstarter means is that with more advanced technology, we are now able to stop safely in a shorter time. Braking times have been reduced with better brakes and instances of skids have been lowered with better tyres.

Those advanced technology definately improve the safety alot in CARS !!

ABS, TCS, ESP, airbag, strong chasis, etc.

But for bikes? 1 patch of diesel spill on the road is enough to make disaster for us....

That's an antiquated sign.

LTA would love to remove it. But it costs too much to do so, so just leave it there..... unless we all wanna pay more ERP to have it removed. :p

LTA is rich enuff to remove it if they want.. they can 1 min spend many thousands to save an old tree.. yet later, remove it..

off topic ya..

i think hor... even if gharment increase speed limit to 110km/h... ppl will try to beat the limit... :cheeky:

i guess it's just the mentality of road users lah...

30km/h - bang becoz all impatient & inconsiderate...rushing to god-knows-where

60km/h - bang becoz all impatient & inconsiderate...rushing to god-knows-where

90km/h - bang becoz all impatient & inconsiderate...rushing to god-knows-where

I'm fine with the speed limits....unless it is strictly enforced (e.g. KPE 70 km/h with speed camera).

As of right now KPE is the only example I can think of with ridiculous speed limit.

Hope you guys don't mind me bumping up this thread to continue the discussion. Any further thoughts on the KPE's speed limit - which seems to be a stickler for many?

You're right. Only Phase 1 has been completed so far. There is still work to be done for the remainder of the KPE - expected to conclude by this year.

PS: You would have known this if you had read the KPE article in our first issue - and could have avoided yourself a wasted detour... :p

We already have those new-fangled fanfuggingtastic lightshow EMAS signboards up there. So much money spent on it... as well as all those cameras to monitor traffic. Not to mention the statistics and figures collected by the geniuses and scholars types... all of these painstakingly compiled and crunched into data that they use to come up with a final speed limit of 70kph....

I wonder why speed limits have to be fixed? With all the fancy-schmancy high tech toys they have... as well as the exhorbitant ERP $$ we pay... along with the road tax, this tax, that tax that we pay.... you would have figured by now that they would have variable speed limits on our Expressways, based on peak or off-peak hours.... o_O

At first glance a 70km/h speed limit is not really a big deal as the tunnels in CTEs are at 80km/h. BUT, there are no cameras in CTE whereas in KPE there are cameras all the way? Correct me if I'm wrong but this is observed by my gf when I ask her to spot the speed cam in KPE. She say on the roof everywhere....

Unless KPE is opened to vehicle transporting hazardous materials as well? As far as I know vehicles such as petrol truck can only travel along certain routes. Is the authorities opening KPE to such vehicles, hence explaining for the rather 'over-safe' speed limit? Or is it just a intermediate thing as there's still construction going on in the tunnel? I do observe quite an amt of gravel/sand on the KPE.

What's the speed limit of the tunnels in Tokyo (which we always see in racing games)?

Valid points brought up there - the KPE is indeed still unfinished. As for the speed cameras, it is probably a case of a better monitoring system in the KPE due to it being planned and built more recently. I am sure that if the implementation of cameras was cost-effective and simple enough, the CTE tunnel would also be similarly fitted.

I am also quite sure that vehicles carrying harzardous materials are not allowed in our expressway tunnels, so probably the cameras have nothing to do with that aspect.

Thank you all for the varied opinions and active participation in the course of this 'investigation'. I am pleased to note that we have managed to gather 50 respondents to (somewhat) quantify our survey. I will use the information provided in this thread to discuss this issue in our upcoming article.

We plan to include a screenshot of this thread in the print article as well, so if any of the moderators here could assist to direct me to the person that I should make the application to, that will be most helpful.

Once again, it is a great experience to learn from all of you and include your thoughts in Bikers Inc...
