Seems to me that TV software had somewhat fiddled with your IE7 address-bar settings, making it behave this way. There are no known control panel or Settings UI to change or reset it back to default as of yet, but do try these steps to attempt to resolve the problem:

[1] Access the "Internet Options" (via Control Panel)

[2] Disable, then enable Autocomplete.

Open Autocomplete, then uncheck the boxes for Web Addresses, Forms, and Username and Password..., and Prompt me to save usernames and passwords (if applicable).

Once done, click OK to all the dialog boxes to apply the change and to dismiss all dialog boxes, then go back into "Internet Options" to re-enable what you have unchecked (do the reverse of the above steps).

Restart your computer!

If that does not resolve the problem:

[3] Reset Internet Explorer

Open "Internet Options" again, and click on the Advanced tab. At the bottom, there is a section called Reset Internet Explorer Settings. There is a [Reset...] button there as well. Click it, and click OK. Then restart your computer

Let us know whether these steps works for you. If not, it might be a much more complicated problem such as DNS. I won't elaborate much but esentially, this problem occurs when software, such as your Internet TV (during installation) might have incorrectly modified up your computer's "DNS locations." As such, take that software out of your computer and do not re-initiate or retry that installation anymore unless it's proven that this is not the case.

I too, have a similiar problem. After installing the MYOB software, my internet explorer started having problems immediately.

The internet explorer will suddenly fade off and out comes a small window saying "internet explorer has encountered a problem" den it tries to search for a solution but no use, have to restart IE. Strange thing is that it only happens when I surf SBF. Other websites all ok.

I'm quite sure it's the MYOB software cos it happened right after installation and never before. Will uninstalling the software help? I still need the software at least for this week, and I'm worried that even after uninstalling, the problem will persist. Anyway to fix this problem? Hopefully can fix it with the software still installed. Is it because I'm using Vista?

Thanks!

Does your MYOB software have an in-built internet browser, or a facility to connect to the internet?

Anyways, I've found this. It has something to do with MS Internet Explorer 7 (Vista's default browser)

I'm just speculating...any MYOB users here?

I just getting started with the software but I don't think it connects to the net. No in-built internet brower as well.

Thanks very much for the link. The guide in the software was written for MYOB version 12 and Premier 6 version. I believe mine is Premier 6. Guess it is an old version and not supported, thus the problems.

I will be uninstalling the software by March. What I'm worried now is that I will continue to have problems after uninstalling the software - I have read somewhere that most default uninstalling 'package' does not completely remove all of the software's components, and that I should use a third party uninstaller if I want to 100% remove the software from my computer. Is this true? If it is, can you recommend some?

Thanks redbeacon.

It's best not to bring in a 3rd party uninstaller for your problem first.

If you confirm that right after the MYOB installation your IE7 began to exhibit these problems, then you can pinpoint MYOB to be the cause of the problem.

==========

I'm not sure whether you have a Firewall installed but if you do, let me share an anecdote with you. You can take this as an optional suggestive step to check your firewall:

I have had application-crashing cases where an installed Firewall with built-in application control (eg. Zone alarm, Comodo, etc...) simply blocked Application A from starting up, because it sensed that it was a "foreign" application and thus, might be of malware/an unsafe application.

This kind of restraining-methods from the Firewall therefore caused that said application to crash whenever it was launched. What baffled us as well was that Application A was on the Firewall's "safe list" and that the user commented that the it worked fine before until one fine day, it decided to quit rudely this way.

Best of all, what accounted to massive amounts of troubleshooting hours and a smack on our heads with our palms in the end was that after we did our research, the user we were assisting installed Application B, which upon install, delibrately changed how Application A behaved (geek-speak: modifying its EXE binary with new source code).

Hence, the firewall didn't recognise Application A anymore. What we did was to take out Application A from the Firewall's "safe list", and to re-insert it back to its "safe-list". One reboot later, it worked in the end.

==========

I agree, your problem quite chim and troublesome to solve. Troubleshooting steps are often lengthy because of this.

This is to the faults of the Application developers themselves because they don't really check or inform their prospective end-users before releasing their apps into the software shops or Internet, henceforth, giving end-users headaches when conflicts like these happen.

Hi redbeacon,

Just an update: I took out MYOB from my computer last month. The problem persisted for a few days initially, then stopped, as sudden as it had started. This probably meant that MYOB was not the only cause of my IE problems.

I didn't do anything to my computer after that, but its been fine till now. I'm guessing maybe the regular Windows auto update did something? I don't know and I don't really want to spend time troubleshooting anymore (since it's alright now).

I just want to say thanks for all your advice and suggestions. I appreciate it very much. :thumb:
