KTM 1190 RC8: Official Superbike premiere in Milan!

KTM first released some computer-generated images of the RC8 in 2005 and although they looked very intriguing, we weren't sure if the images were an in-hour design exercise or if the bike would really be developed. Well, lo and behold, here it is, two years later, and in almost identical form to the original concept!

 

 

“The RC8 is the perfect embodiment of the collective know-how and the sporting passion of our development teams", he said. "In addition, they have proven that KTM is capable of pushing through its own model strategy and in doing so, being absolutely true to our clear brand philosophy, also on the road.”

At the heart of the 1190 RC8 is the completely newly developed supersport two-cylinder based on the well known LC8 range of engines, which, with a top performance of 155 hp and a maximum amount of torque of 120 Nm delivers an overwhelming amount of power to the rider.

 

A unique light tubular steel frame, highest quality suspension and brake components and unusual technical solutions such as the exhaust positioned under the bike complete the 1190 RC8, which weighs just 200kg with a full tank. The result is a Superbike that truly lives up to its name in every sense of the word.

 

As a genuine KTM, the 1190 RC8 also exhibits its pure motor racing genes even from a distance. The new KTM Superbike, available in both color variations of orange/black and white/black will be available starting in March of 2008, just in time for the start of the new motorcycle season. We will post more details as they become available.

 

So any one booked yet? Machine at $35k?

Riders rush to buy the KTM RC8

KTM has already pre-sold 180 of the 350 RC8’s destined to come to the UK.

 

The motorcycle has been causing quite a stir since it was introduced last year

so it is no surprise it is selling well.

 

MCN Road tester Trevor Franklin even went as far as saying the RC8 is as good as the Honda Fireblade and better than the Ducati 1098 after he rode it at the KTM launch in Ascari, Spain.

 

Spokesman Ross Walker says. The first deliveries of the bike to showrooms are scheduled to take place next weekend, with a dealer launch event at Silverstone in the cards for late March.

Build quality...I'm not surprised...KTM's are known for fit n' finish...better ride than 1098/1098S...maybe so...boils down to skill of operator...up against the 1098R...hmmm...we shall see...cya @ e track! :thumb:

well 1098RR is totaly a different animal. we are comparing them with the model before that .

2003-2004= kawasaki krr150

2004-2008= honda rvf400

2008-2009= GSXR 600 K7

2009- 2011= Handa Wave 125

In their latest issue, French magazine Motorevue would be doing a full-blown shootout between the hot new KTM 1190 RC8 and the mighty Yamaha R1. Pitting French-spec (?) 100bhp versions of the two machines against each other, Motorevue came to the conclusion that while the R1 remains unbeaten for top speed, the RC8 holds many advantages over the Japanese bike. According to MR, the RC8 has less demanding ergonomics, is more stable at high speeds, offers more cornering precision, and that its wonderfully unconventional styling has more ‘character.’

 

Here are Motorevue's figures for the two bikes:

 

KTM 1190 RC8

Top speed: >230km/h

Power: 104.9bhp (measured at the crank)

Dry weight: 188kg

Price: 16,250 euros

 

Yamaha YZF R1

Top speed: >230km/h

Power: 114bhp (measured at the crank)

Dry weight: 172kg

Price: 13,590 euros

 

So it does look like Italy & Japan Inc had better watch out – the RC8 will soon be kicking some arse…!

the bikes r in town,looke cool with the matt finish. view at dirtwheel. bad news is only 2 units n both sold. better see it b4 it gets out from the shop.

2 many internet racers and not enough real racers in s g!
