some points to note..

brake fluid is very corrosive. but water will settle that for u.... so if brake fluid happen to touch ur tank, use a cloth full of water to wipe it else will eat into the paint work.

n oso, brake fluid need to change periodically like EO. as for how long to change, u decide. a bottle of brake fluid wun cost much oso. mayb the worksmanship cost abit more but wun exceeded $40 wan.

cheers...

point to note bros...

instructions given is always to use DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed bottle...guess that comment matters, if not they wun put it ...

agree with skateboy bro that it is very corrosive to the paintwork ........so for those doing diy, conver ur tank with

1) thrash bag

2) bikecover

before u decide to top it up ....basically, anything that the brake fluid can't seep thru ...so better dun use cloth ..........

my 2 cents worth ..

actually using which DOT of brake fluid varies on ur usage. the different type of brake fluid is from extreme to normal use. some can take high heat but some cannot. but lets say change to steel braided hoses, shd b able to use not just DOT 4.

mayb not b true. must verify 1st...

temp wise i'm not sure cos when i change my brake lines, i asked the mech about the brake fluid n he told me that different grade is for different usage. i dunno which grade can tolerate higher heat. forget liao

but i think DOT 4 is more universal. or shd i say, stick back to the type recommanded by honda...

Alright bro ...thanks for the info ..

Once again , it all dwells down to the fact that following original manufacturer's advise is still the best........

yah, once brake fluid is expose to air for a long time, some property of it will change causing it not able to function well

bro, enlighten us on the temperature part.....

brake fluid is rated by the amount of temperature it can take. as braking produces friction, the harder or more u brake, the high the friction & more heat will be produce & will spread to the brake fluid causing it to break down & not producing the hydraulic force to psh the brake pads.

the number behind the DOT is the rating, the higher it is, the more heat it can take

haha... i mean wat brand he have in mind.

hm... saw 2, one from HKL and the other from Motoworld. but dunno which one is good. well... actually, can we really feel the diff btw the stock hose and aftermarket????

well, to wat i know got HEL, spiegler, goodridge, swage, galfer, venhill. others i'm not sure...

steel braided hoses r more durable n have a firm braking feeling. cos rubber hose is subjected to expansion n contraction due to weather n ur braking application. n rubber hose deteriorate after a period of time.

but y riders change to steel braided hose is for a better feel when braking.

do take note that wat hose u change, depends on the skill of the mech that does the bleeding for u. if its poorly done, its as good as no brakes.

u wanna change the 2 front lines only or with the 1 rear as well? cos 2 is definitely cheaper. but labour charges for 3 lines n 2 lines is the same.

n wat brand u have in mind? cos they r available in different shops.

me currently using HEL. previously use spiegler... difference is HEL uses stainless steel banjos n fitting whereas spiegler uses aluminium banjos n fittings. all steel braided hoses can last thru out ur ownership of ur bike... even OEM hoses can last u long. but of cos the older the hose, the higher chance it gave way.
