it can't squeeze under the seat because of the back and other protectors.

Actually, abroad they do sell a helmet bag that's reinforced with steel threads. And u put ur helmet inside the bag and chain it to the bike.

Much safer, but I think the damn bag cost $100, enough to buy me a cheap full face.

I personally ride a relatively small bike (s4 & wave) for commuting in comparison to the big boys in the riding community, though I do rarely ride my bro's 600 at times. But I still make an effort to wear at least a denim jacket in the hottest weather and never to go without my leather gloves. Not to mention long pants/jeans as well.

At most of the times, I would lug on my agvsport leather jacket, it's freaking hot. Even when I'm under a roof I would still sweat heavily with the leathers. Sometimes I would have to bring 2 sets of shirts for the immense perspiration. My leathers come with full armour and race hump as well, and initially I felt I look like the japanese cartoon superheroes on their superbikes. Without the superbike ofcourse, lol. Actually most of my friends who have seen my in the leathers think it looks cool & stylo, like those "ang moh" riders.

I think beauty is within the eye of beholder, at least I know that my safety is not being compromised. Infact, I wear my leathers walking around to shopping malls, arcades, clubs and etc. I think I look cool more than stupid. It's your take, safety or your perceived "stupidity".

Bro, as a safety-gear-advocate, I'd say wearing leather in Singapore daily is not practical. You risk getting heatstroke. I really recommend that you wear an armored mesh jacket. I think every major brand makes a few of those, so you probably can get the brand and design you like.

I don't wear leather unless I am really going all out for an aggressive canyon or track ride. Normally it's just cordura armored jacket.

:) Thanks for your good advice.

I'm sourcing out good mesh jackets these days, but somehow I find them look weird... Heh... Maybe till the day when I can sort out that distorted mentality of my own.

Any good recommendations? Actually I'm wondering more of who actually wears leather pants to commute. :p

Your mentality is okay. I also think that many mesh jackets look weird. I wear one during summer but it makes me look like Andy Lau in the movie "Big Guy". But you want to protect yourself in case of a fall, and yet not sweat like a dog every time you ride. So you don't have another choice.

Joe Rocket has a pretty nifty evaporative cooling vest that you can get to wear under your mesh jacket for more cooling also. I think it's a pretty good idea. If you are looking for a good-looking and practical jacket, I'd say go for Joe Rocket "Phoenix" or "Alter Ego". They are very reasonably priced compared to Alpinestars or Dainese, and are built quite well. Fieldsheer and Teknic are another two value brands, but their cuttings are more for bigger-sized people.

Just to add, in the US, even Harley riders wear jeans most of the time. Leather pants are only for cruiser riders for that particular few weeks of the year when temperature hovers between 10 to 15 Celsius. I never wore leather pants. It's either cordura jacket plus jeans, or race suit.

Mesh looks fine to me... provided don't get oversized ones...

The close fitting ones look as good as leather...

I have an alpinestars mesh... i think airflo... wear it whenever i can.

Jackets should not be oversized at all. Must be snug and and a little tight so that the protection paddings don't slide off where they are supposed to protect if you happen to kiss the ground (touch wood!). : )

Lately I saw this good jacket Komine JK412 from Motoworld.

Got hard armours at spine, shoulders and elbows. Mesh is also made of cordura nylon. Cost $200. Also comes with an internal pocket to hold an optional chest armour that cost $80.

Please enlighten me on the type of gear you guys have. This does not apply to squids who simply go around in shorts, sandals and a t shirt, last time I was there, I never seen so many squids in my life. I'd rather not end up like that moron pictured below.

Thank you for your time.

When i intend to go out, i wear a 50 dollar denim jacket, 12 dollar jeans, and FOC army boots. i've worn 30 dollar gloves before, but they get counter productive on the throttle.

when i go to work i wear less.

FOC shirt, FOC pants and 5.90 mock crocs.

There was a few times i had to be a squid.

bermudas, sandles and FOC jacket since it was cold. didnt want my wounds being compounded by my pants.

if YOU want to go riding in your full leather suit, by all means. every week at the mac i work at, i would see a dude wearing full leather racing suit with his motard. he likes going to the track every week, but i am guessing that he is too lazy to bring a bag with his suit along. me and my mates wonder how long it takes for him to take a dump.

full face, gloves, mesh jacket with armour and riding boots to work or trips longer than 3km!

Luckily my mesh jacket can zip/unzip without fuss, so even town riding is not too much of a problem.

Alpinestars Spinner, I plan to get that jacket, and if I do, I'll be riding with leather everyday.

And to add, a sturdy pair of gloves made of leather with protectors and a full-face is standard affair.

In fact, once you get into the whole thing, and find your own process to lug those precious gear around while you go about your daily lives, shopping, dating, movies, eating out, you find it's no buggy at all.

Last but not least, there's a motorcycling culture in Singapore, and it's happening!

Posted

It does take a lot of getting used to lugging around all the protective gear. I tasted tarmac before and i promised myself not to dress like a squid, so i saved up for FF helmet(an AGV titech no less), gloves, and armoured mesh jacket. Next on the list would be boots to go the whole nine yards.

Stuff i have gotten used to would be sweating when i reach my destination, even in cold nights. Problem is: where do i keep my luggage? I got no box so yeah have to carry them around. It's alright if just meeting friends to chill for some prata but daily travelling and carrying all that stuff around school/work/shopping, have to be really thick skin to not notice the weird stares. And the sad thing is some ppl don't even know it's for the sake of protection.

Posted

Why is it embarrassing?

I find that it's only macho to be lugging around your precious gear in style. Why turn up for work like the rest in a normal leather briefcase, when you can arrive to work in style, in your leather riding jacket, riding backpack and a Shoei in tow? Girls dig it. The smell of your perspiration especially when it's mating season, tickles their biological clock, something that makes them go 'ooooh' and weak.

 Now that's a quotable quote! Hahah i guess I'll keep repeating that to myself the next time i turn up in school dressed up like power ranger.

Not embarrassing la, just that it attracts alot of attention, and i'm not an attention seeking guy. But now that you have unravelled what the ladies actually think beneath the weird/flirty stare that they give, i say mating season is on. And i'm in the mood

Yo bro, seems like both of us have the same problems man. Weird stares (some of my colleagues even ask me why I dress unitl LIKE THAT. Wah biang, I don't even bother to explain much), sweaty when arrived at destination ... sometimes I even take taxi or bus instead of riding my bike (how stupid right? got bike but cannot ride)! There was once I even thought of getting a scooter (cos got storage). But I really can't bear to let go of my Duke.

Well anyway, since I've been wearing all these safety stuff for so long, I might as well continue doing it. It's my life anyway.

Annoying fonts edited out. Just because you can doesn't mean that you must.

ANYWAYS.

So you ride a ducati monster eh? Its adorable, i think.

But i find it foolish to not use your bike when you can.

If it rains just slap on a raincoat. Or are you too afraid to wet the mesh jacket that comes with a complimentary 3 figure price tag?

if you are too lazy to lug around your accessories you can always install boxes on your bike. or perhaps that will ruin the "cool" outlook of your import bike? removable saddlebags can be purchased. and they are significantly big enough to store your stuff. and they are removable, so any time you want your bike to look "cool" again you can just remove them.

i don't give a rat's ass what a person wears. if he dresses minimally, then good luck. there is NO shame in riding a bike wearing the triple S combination of sandals/singlet/shorts. yes, wearing a

can minimalize injuries in the unfortunate even that you got into fuzz, but there is absolutely no need for thinly veiled, unnecessary shows of excess income.

idiots who ***** when their Arai Ram 3 helmets got stolen when the said idiots leave it unsecured and unwatched. idiots who ***** when their racing purpose, velcro mounted headlight protectors get stolen. Idiots who spend good money on clothes that they wear mainly for looks. LOOKS. And then the same idiots ***** when they get the bloody attention that they were seeking.

if you want to wear all that nice gear when you go out riding, go ahead! who gives a **** about what other people think? it is true that you aim to protect your own life when you wear such attire. it is also true other persons may have other priorities when it comes to riding, comfort for example. most of us "squids" and "semi-squids" know the risks, evaluated them and decided to go ahead.

Thumbs up for the harley dude who got the SELF CONFIDENCE to not go out wearing the stereotypical harley davidson attire of full leathers!

Thumbs up for all the riders who have the SELF CONFIDENCE in their riding abilities and style to go out wearing whatever the bloody hell they want for that matter!

Hi,

I'll be moving to Singapore soon, from the San Francisco Bay Area. I'd like know what gear you guys wear in that wonderful hot weather.

I have the Arai Quantum/f, and full leathers, boots, gloves, back protector etc. when I ride. I can't imagine wearing all that gear in Singapore; I'm guessing I will have a heat stroke. Are there certain brands of leathers that are specially designed for such warm weather.

Please enlighten me on the type of gear you guys have. This does not apply to squids who simply go around in shorts, sandals and a t shirt, last time I was there, I never seen so many squids in my life. I'd rather not end up like that moron pictured below.

Thank you for your time.

to directly reply to the TS inquiry.

i certainly hope you are not going to be one of those suicidal racers who always have the tendency to kiss the front of an incoming car. if you are, than no amount of armour can save you. hot weather leathers? verily doubt so. hot weather mesh jackets? look under the "summer" category of your branded store of your choice. mesh jackets galore. a good jacket allows you to have water proof liner inside as an optional. a good pair of denims are good enough for your ass to ride the tarmac for short periods, and you wont feel as hot wearing touring pants. use whatever shoes you are already wearing. use whatever helmet you are already wearing.

but i would like to repeat. if you ride like a jackass, then no amount of protection is going to save your ass. or your skull.

i dont think ANYONE would want to end up like THIS MORON.

Seriously, do girls really dig a filthy-smelling biker boy?

I've been wearing leather, and it really is unbearable, try mesh jacket instead. Still, sometimes it's quite hot.
