Saw an ah pek riding a vespa along Jalan Basah.

He chrome the 2 big humps of his vespa only and match it to the cream colour paintwork as well as cream colour rubbers.

The chrome part was definitely mirror finishes. Can see my reflection and pimples on my face while I was stopping next to him.

Makes me gian gian want to chrome something also.

thing to consider is chrome tend to get scratch easily

I think if the entire bike was chromed, it will be very dangerous, coz your bike will "merge" with the surrounding!

i would like to chrome my steed exhaust pipe. how much and where?

This is what i hear about chroming. Good and lasting chroming requires 3 layers something like tin/nickle/chrome. If I am mistaken please correct me. I have dealt with star before and they do a 7/10 job. The shop next to them is much worst. Chrome started peeling off 6 months after the job is done. The part I chrome was steel and not aluminium. Star's service lasted a while longer but still peeled off under a year. I know most shops here dont do triple plating. Just double.

It's important that you do a little preparation on your metal before you get it chromed. Preferably sand it smooth and remove any nicks or chips. The shops wont do it right for you. If you sand blasted your metal parts, sand them smooth first before sending them in for chroming. Preparation is everything because you're gonna spend a ton of money getting it chromed.

In my experience, there are close to none when it comes to quality chroming in SG. The closest bet so far would be star electroplating. Patience is the key...they have a lot of jobs. Hope this helps.

A word of caution to those that wants to chrome their parts.

There are 2 types, EN and Hardchrome.

EN will peel off after 6 mths or longer if you are lucky.

Hardchrome is what is done on the original parts.

When thinking of rechroming, please ensure that all rust is removed properly.

rechroming over the rusty parts will cause the chrome to be rusted out from the inside in a couple of months.

In order to have a nice shiny chrome reflective surface, it must be smooth as well.

star is in kallang bahru. Last time I dealt with them, Danny charged me $100 for a main stand. Job is ok. Best so far. I have noticed most shops will "polish" the chromed parts after it's done, according to them it brings out the lustre in the finished product. Personally, I dont see any difference in the shine. Instead, you'll get very fine lines on the chrome. Not noticeable from a distance but sucks up close.

Dont waste time chroming in Singapore. It will never work out in the long run. And the metal will rust even worse after that.

The preparation process is never followed ever in Singapore.

Surface preparation ,copper dip, buffing, nickle dip , buffing, . I tried many times and many shops, cheap ,expensive, It still turned out crap.

Paint it it will serve you better.

Cheers

Another alternative to chroming would be to fabricate the parts in stainless steel and then buff it. It will look as good as chrome and better still, wont rust over time.

My crash bar is made of stainless steel and was quite rough and dull untill I use brasso and slowly buff untill now almost as shiny as chrome.

Did you check out the Magna 750 thread? One of the guys did his in JB and the job was well done. Personally have seen the bike up-close parking at my premises a couple of times and thought it looked good. :)
