need to add some wires. connect to the blinker or flasher. change the switch.

this switch is a DPST (Double Pole Single Throw) switch. u need such a switch becoz it can connect the 2 signals together while u activate the power.

its a 4 pin switch, 2 connected to signal and 2 wires coming from the flasher (the 2 wires are splitted into 2 from 1 live wire)

Bro Paiseh,

Alamak, this is alien language to me lah. I guess I'll just have to wait for our next DIY session. Well, there's going to be a DIY session to do up the hazard lights, rite?

Bro Amin,

If u're currently riding an S4, then how can u call urself a novice? A novice is someone like me who just got his 2B licence last mth. Haha!

Regarding ur insurance query, I'm sure u can do it on ur own. Even better if the shop can do it for u, rite?

The Pulsar doesn't come with hazard light switch. Hence, the need to modify by installing switch and doing some wiring work.

And of course the Pulsar comes with headlight switch. U mean there are bikes out there that don't?

Guys,i haf been riding this bike for almost 7 mths liao..so far my mileage is bout 600km per litre. i'm goin at a average of 100-110km/h most of the time. Engine oil dun need to use too good one cos its too thin, not suitable for pulsar..it might sip out frm ya engine. Had tat problem once..went dwn to universal the tech there told me.anyway quite happy wif it other den its speed constrain(used to ride sp)...but get use to it liao. certainly a good buy if ya lookin for transport bike.

It's not a question of whether u can ask for the IU to be placed at ur preferred location. It's a question of whether the shop has the suitable bracket required to hold the IU in place at where u want it to be.

Actually, u can source for ur own insurance. But y go thru the hassle? Most, if not all, bikers just let the motordiams include the insurance as part of the sales package. Anyway, u still get to choose the type of insurance (1st, 2nd or 3rd party; usually at least 2nd party if paying by instalments) and the insurance co. (NTUC, Mitsui, AIG, etc.)

Thanx roadrunner....

so we get everything from the shop we buy the bike......

hmmmmm...

so far away from TP sia....

only at prac 5

Nothing wrong in looking around for a bike before getting ur licence. I did that myself. That's becos the moment u get ur licence, u can't wait to buy a bike. So by then, u would have done ur homework and buy the bike that fits ur preference, needs, budget, etc. Otherwise, u'll buy on impulse without fully knowing what u're getting urself into and may have regrets later.

Bros Paiseh and Zod, I've done up the hazard lights at the same shop where Bro Ray did his. Need to activate both turn signal switch and hazard light switch. Find it quite troublesome. U guys think the wiring can be redone so only the hazard light switch needs to be activated? Thanks.

Your type of wiring has another drawback.

Your condenser will burn up in the long run, cos the circuit is doing a short.

Could you request for them to reinstall the IU to the windscreen if it was on the handlebar? Any extra charges??

And for insurance, where to buy?do we buy insurance at where we buy the bike or somewhere else??

The IU unit will "knock" into the windshield.

So put some foam in between.

Paiseh should know better :cheeky:

Hi Guys,

I'm 21 and a new rider with no road experience. I wish to take up the NTUC insurance. How do i go about purchasing a brand new Pulsar?

Some of the questions i have:

1. How do i settle the insurance? Before, during or after i buy the bike?

2. I have about $2000 cash. Is it enough for the down-payment and insurance?

3. How will the COE affect me and is the COE cost included with the bike or separate?

4. If after 1+ years, i don't like the bike and i decide to sell it, how do i go about doing it when i'm still paying the installments?

Kindly help. Thank you!

Answers to ur queries based on my humble knowledge (experienced riders, pls correct me if I'm wrong).

1) U get the insurance when buying the bike itself. Well, actually, u can buy a bike without insurance or even without a licence. Only that u can't ride the bike on public roads. So only a moron will do that. By the way, NTUC insurance will cost a bomb for a 21-yr old new rider.

2) $2000 is more than enough for minimum downpayment. The shop will add up all the components of the sale price and quote u a total price. Then up to u whether to pay minimum downpayment or more.

3) COE has nothing to do with rider. It's purely for the vehicle. Bike price is inclusive of COE.

4) Sori, can't help u here. Maybe COI? But not sure how the exact process go abt. Much simpler if bike is fully paid for. In the 1st place, think carefully. Buy a 1st hand bike only if u're gonna use it for at least 3 yrs. If it's only for 1.5 yrs, u're better off with a 2nd hand bike. Bcos of the depreciation, u'll lose a lot of $ buying a 1st hand bike, only to sell it just 1.5 yrs later.
