looks like i spoke too soon on s'pore players not making it recently in the international scene.

our national player, Tan Tiong Boon has jus represented the "World" to play against a Taiwan team made up of 6 top taiwan players which includes the young 2005 8/9 ball champion, Wu Chia Ching.

The "World" team consist also some of the biggest names known, many of them who have won past world champion titles.

Boon, even thou came as a subsitute to Nick Van Den Berg, performed pretty well in this star-starred event by defeating 2 taiwan internationals in the group play, Fong-Pang Chao & Chang, Pei-Wei who have won 2 world champion & 1 world games respectively. He failed to qualify for the quarter finals even when he beat another taiwan international,Kuo Po-Cheng. He's total score for the group play was 3 wins & 3 loses after a neck to neck race of 7-6 when he lost to Alex Pagulayan (2004 World Champion). Nevertheless, Boon has really did S'pore proud & let the world know tht players from the little red dot in the map aren't to be messed with.

Let's hope Boon can continue with his performance & maybe he can finally get rid of his nickname "Silver" Tan by winning this yr's asean games men's singles gold medal :cheer:

here's the final result of the comp & the prize money won by individual players:

KING: USD$20,000 Ching-Shun Yang (TPE)

2nd place: USD$12,000 Pei-Wei Chang (TPE)

3rd place: USD$7,200 Efren Reyes (PHI)

4th place: USD$5,600 Francisco Bustamante (PHI)

Team 5th: USD$4,000 A: Marlon Manalo (PHI)

B: Alex Pagulayan (CAN)

Team 7th: USD$3,200 A: Chia-Ching Wu (TPE)

B: Tiong-Boon Tan (SIN)

Team 9th: USD$2,800 A: Ralf Souquet (GER)

B: Kunihiko Takahashi (JPN)

Team 11th: USD$2,000 A: Jung-Lin Chang (TPE)

B: Fong-Pang Chao (TPE)

Team 13th: USD$1,600 A: Earl Strickland (USA)

B: Po-Cheng Kuo (TPE)
