Hi guys,

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Sent my Spec 1 for valve clearance a few days back.

Right now, things dont seem normal anymore compared to before servicing.

1) My RPM needle flucuates.

When i start engine from cold, its around 1 to 1.1 (wch is pretty normal)

After some riding around, it idles at 1.4!!!

2)The pickup doesnt feel as good compared to the time prior to servicing.

I can feel a flat spot when needle is around 3.5 to 4.5++ rpm.

I spoke to the mech and he instead told me this is normal and should be expected after valve clearance, which i highly doubt so. I also think the engine is running a little hotter. Can I just isolate the problem to a case of 'bad tuning' of the carburettor? Would a retuning of the carb solve the above mentioned problems?

Any inputs would be much appreciated

ah hwee would most likely ask me wash and tune carburettor without even bothering to troubleshoot or test my ride.

Put yourself in tht fella's shoe, he'd probably want to chop my head and make a quick buck.

Nolah don't need.Valve clearance is just adjusting the gap between the cam and valve head to the specific gap [0.28(intake) 0.30(exhaust) for spec 3] . Unless full top overhal is done. Then need run in. After valve clearance need to do tuning coz the valve intake and exhaust timing is altered.

holy cow,

if a run-in is actually required, then i guess i've done running in already (more or less)

I've put 300km on this thing already after servicing.

Very unsatisfied with the performance, pick up isnt good at all...

Its like spanking a limping horse to go faster

Can feel flat spots when rpm hits 3.5k to 4.5k, hell... it just feels flat all the way until 5k rpm.

The mech asked me to return 2 weeks later to tune the carb, but I haf a feeling he mentioned it just so that I'd scoot off with my bike without him requiring to do anything else on my bike any further and hope the matter would be forgotten.

so guys, do let me know... is a fluctuating rpm needle at all normal?

one that shows a different reading when cold, and another when hot
