Guess what, I called up guan hoe a few days ago, was quoted 480 at Enuos wksp and 700 at their HQ. See the price difference.

Guan Hoe got HQ? Since when?

As far as I know there is only one Guan Hoe (M) Pte Ltd in Singapore...

Guan Hoe Cheong, there are many but that's not the shop in question...

BTW hi to all... I am the successor to RG's bandit.

Silver, great job with the valve clearances!!

My suggestion, if u can, try removing the small cover on the right hand side and turn the bolt inside. that can help u wif the valves and aligning them

kekeke.......tiring work you noe. I thought you did before on your 750?

anyway, i use a 8mm socket and long nose plier to adjust. Mine is the square head nut. discover can actually turn by finger but need something to hold the fellow while tightening the locknut. feeder gauge i had quite sometime, finally get to use it. can lend you the feeder gauge if you want.

my bike is seriously inneed of a wash n tune of carb. very out of tune and strong vibration. but can sense engine more responsive after clearance check. easily go up to 8k compared to previous it is reluctant to go above 6k. and at the same speed, my rpm seems to be lower compared to previously. there is still a slight hesitation from idle to 1.5k but much better now. suspected due to air leak from air filter previously, cos my plugs are still more white than tan. engine less hot now.

maybe can try go the Guan Hoe (is it?) at rangoon rd for your seals?

Got took some photos last night but haven upload yet. maybe tomorrow. :p

Can lend me your torque wrench, and silicon sealant as well?? Probably going to do it next month.

Actually carb syn will be more accurate after valve clearance check.

great job or not still yet to be known (only after carb tune then know) but it feels great to complete the job by yourself

i can open up the right cover (signal generator cover) but i dont have the right size spanner, so i put in gear and turn by hand.

btw, need to ask something. for the main jet and pilot jet is there supposed to be any specific number of turns or screw all the way in cos it is not stated in the manual. i cant adjust the pilot screw as it is pre-set at factory and sealed off with no settings given in the manual. is there any other screws to adjust the fuel/air mixture?

the carb cleaner i bought is damaging to plastic parts and paintwork from what i know. so when i clean the carbs, after i dismantle all 4 to remove the plastic and rubber parts to clean, do i need to wait for the carbs to dry completely (assuming the cleaner would evaporate off) or can i just wipe the parts dry where there is contact with rubber or plastic and put back?

I just realised something.

i do not have the torque wrench, i tighten by normal method :cheeky: cos when i open the screws they are not that tight. And i choose also not to use it, as I was informed in the forum that the torque setting for the cover bolts are not correct as some fellows broke the bolts following the manual. at least by normal method i can be assure i dont break them. :cheeky:

i had thrown away my silicon sealant as the balance is already harden. you can get them at hardware shop, the orange colour type.

Not sure about the Guan Hoe thing. I will ask next time I go there...

One say Guan Hoe EQ is in Eunos, another say Rangoon Road... I also confuse liao. Always thought the Workshop is the only one.

Tighten the main jet and pilot jet all the way in, a loose main jet will cause black smoke.

Try not to adjust the air/fuel mixture screw its factory preset, you need special gauge to tune. If you really need to adjust, change the pilot jet one size bigger e.g 35 to 37.5. I can borrow you the pilot jet, 37.5 for testing if needed.

I'm not sure about your carb cleaner, but the one I bought doesn't harm the o-rings and plastic and its very good at dissolving gums and dirt. Got it at Mah motorparts for 7 bucks.

You can wipe the carb cleaner residue off or wait for them to evaporate, normally I wipe off the excess and let the hard to reach place to dry up by itself.

I went to check the torque for valve cover screws, and I realise my torque wrench is within the range, think I will set to minimum then tighten.

Which shop can I get the silicon, can help me to buy if you happen to pass by then I pay you?

bandit brother, what happens when you throttle up at neutral gear. Does the neutral indicator light and head lamp dims very slightly. Mine is like that. Anything wrong. Was told by a friend it is normal for such bikes as compared to a Goldwing.

Tat is normal, coz u r drawing current from the battery to fire the spark plugs(x4).

For lower rpm range(less than 4k rpm), its perfectly normal.

Every bike will have different peak charging voltage at at certain rpm.

Mine is about 14.5V at 5k rpm, that means after 5k rpm and above, it is still 14.5V.

It is design to protect the battery so tat u dun pump too much voltage/current n destroy it.

i tot it would take me a few hours didnt know took me so lone. somemore its not somethig which you can put aside n do later.

I went through a few bandit fourms and they advise that it can be easily done on your own with a manual on hand. the difficult part is not the checking, its the removal of everything to reach the internal that is tiring. so i just wack lor. they did advise a few things to look out for.

I found the matching seal and dust cover from Honda, for my rear brake caliper. They cost $11.50 for one side, maybe cheaper from FJT.

Just ask for CBR400 rear brake caliper seal and dust cover next time, if you want to replace your bandit rear caliper seal and dust cover.

I guess the only way would be respraying the tank, and get the inside treated too.

Sad to say, most owners will just live wif it, coz not willing to spend so much on an old bike.

hi guys, jus wondering if the bandit 400 is easy to get parts. how bout maintaince wise? torublesome. wld like to know more bout tis cause its a veri affordable bike if i'm getting it

1) parts not difficult to get.

2) Best if u can DIY, u get to know yur bike more. It's an old bike, regular maintainance is inevitable.

3) it is rather a cheap bike to own, market price about $1.5k.

4) dun ask about performance, the last time we commented on it, ppl outisde were not very happy. o_O
