I used to drive a V6 to work everyday on KL roads (Jams most times, redline when roads are clear). Change oil only 10000km when I'm using fully syn. No problems. How come on bikes have to change so often. 11.5k rpm redline compared to 8k rpm?

I don't remember my oil being so watery when I was riding my 954. I was using Repsol then. But I wasn't really confident on the 954 then, so I was really a slow poke on it.

Ken, like my 'bra'? You won't see more than 5 of this color on the road. I ordered this color, 8 pieces came in, 2 was bought by foreigners, 1 by me. Other sizes are really huge, may be still in the shop. Saw 1 other guy wearing it on the road.

http://www.dainese.com/img/1_Jamara_front_b(2).jpg

Thinking of selling. I have a friend who is going to back to Roma, thinking of getting a new jacket. Dainese released a whole bunch of new jackets.

No biggie here, nothing to shout about, but this just came to my mind, my Blade RR4 is 1st on the road, Arai RX7 RR4 also 1st to buy from S'pore dealer (shipment arrived, wasn't displayed, and I bought it the next day. I kept calling the dealer to ask when it was coming every alternate day). Dainese Jamara red also 1st on the road. :cheer:

Should change my career to MotoGP, dunno whether can get 1st or not. :cheeky:

Maybe 1st from the back. :cheeky:

Heat is energy. More heat generated equals more power generated.

Our bike engines are designed for power. The higher the compression... the greater the amount of heat generated due to compression alone without even having to ignite the fuel/air mixture yet.

All diesel engines are high compression engines. During the compression stroke, the inducted air is compressed so much that the air heats up tremendously and the timed injection of the diesel spray will be ignited by the heat resulting in the power stroke. No spark plugs involved.

First we have an engine that is running super hot, than we have our clutch plates sharing the same engine oil (cars are dry clutches and do not use the engine oil).

And that generates alot of heat too when we slip our clutches.

Oil breaks down and carbonise in the presence of heat... and therefore start to turn black. The other reason why the oil turns black is because of contamination by the combustion blowby, those combustion gases(filled with black carbon desposits which you see on your exhaust) which escaped past the piston rings during the power stroke which are very hot and also burn the oil lubricating the piston walls.

It is because of these constant combustion blowby past the pistons (all pistons do not have a 100% sealing for their rings, that's why some people cut grooves on the piston to put more rings!!). All these blowby gases will enter the crankcase, and build up the pressure within the crankcase. On most bikes the pressure and fumes are relieved through a hose (crankcase breather) connected to the airbox.

Serves 2 purposes... relieves the crankcase of built up pressure and sends any unburnt gases that escaped the piston rings back into the combustion chambers for a second round of burning.

The other way to deal with this pressure build up and waste bypass gases is to divert them to the exhaust manifolds where they are burnt again by the exiting hot exhaust gases. All these done to protect the environment from pollution.

If there is no relief of built up pressure within the crankcase during engine operations, gaskets are bound to give way resulting in oil leaks in a matter of time.

So Ken... when you say the block off plates are blocking the passage to the exhaust manifolds... I hope there is another passage for the crankcase to breathe.

But believe should have, coz if there was not.... you would have blown the engine gaskets and had oil leaks by from the piston block base, crankcase or oil sump areas by now. I think the first tell tale sign would be constant wetting of oil around the oil filler cap.

Sorry off tracked from engine oils to crankcase breathers... but oils break down faster in bikes than cars simply because of the higher compression ratio and the wet clutch design.

When engine oil is fresh... gear changes are smooth. But when the oil starts to breakdown and lose its lubricity... gear changes are notchy.

Mineral oils can last good for about 2000km, synthetic oils last about 3000km before gear changes become notchy or stiff. No oil can last forever despite what they claim. In fact doing more frequent oil changes is good for the machine... clears out all the carbon deposits suspended in the oil before they get burnt onto the cylinder walls and oil passages as carbon deposits.

For every 6000km I travel I would have changed engine oil (Castrol GTX @$16) 3 times (Total cost $48) If it was fully synthetic, it would be 2 oil changes at..........you guys go figure coz I never used synthetic oil before till this last oil change and that cost me $70.

Great info. We would like to think that our piston rings seal very well and there is little or no blow-by by breaking in the engine Motune way. A must read for you.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I didn't understand this initially until I did my own research and found this. It's a great supplement and the diagram here helps a lot.

http://www.ntnoa.org/enginebreakin.htm

I need to change my engine oil too. 23k km plus already, 24k is when it's due.

Ahhh the wonders of the internet!!

Those days the only way I could gain information on engines was through reading of books and manuals. Going to the library and digging through all the books, very time consuming and tiring.

And today.... it is just a click on the GO button of the search engine and all the books I have read are laid out in one summarised page and explained in everyday language with none that technical mumbo jumbo.

Yeah man Jerry, when will you join us for an outing?

Need to have your Telefonica replica parked next to my Repsol replica for a shot for the album. A rear shot coz both have the Yoshis. :lovestruck:

A possibility may be coming up... we were at the same restaurant at Perling where we had the Iranian dinner for steaks. Met up again with the JB friends again, of which one rides a Hog and one who owns the 'best' chicken rice stall in Perling. He knows of some good assam pedas restaurants near Muar or in Muar.... Tashi, what was the place he mentioned??. Basically where to find cheap and good seafood.

So I am going to try and coerce him into doing an "Assam Pedas Food Fest Run" on a Saturday morning. :hungry:

Will keep you guys posted on any updates from that tattooed beer guzzling Harley riding Malaysian water selling pirate friend of mine. :thumb:

Abang Chilly... mana lah engkau? Semalam kesian tidak ikut kita jadi kutu embun.

Di rumah duduk diam diam semalam saperti burung punggok merindukan bulan ka?? Sekarang aku nak ajak abang ke Muar makan ikan pari assam pedas. Boleh?? Syabas!! Bagus sekali :thumb:
