I thought that if your foreign license was in English then you didn't need an international license permit?

Everyone seems to be saying that it is harder these days to convert your license to anything other than a class 2b. So I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get the 2b earlier. Then I'll be able to get the 2a and 2 earlier as well :)

Well, never go down without a fight.

Go approach the Traffic Police and see what you can squeeze out of it. IMO, you've rode a big bike back from where you came from... and Singapore Roads aren't really a big deal, or any more dangerous than where you were. It's absolutely arrogant and stupid of the authorities to bar a direct conversion based on "safety".

Absurd.

Pls try and ask first at the Traffic Police..if ur gonna just jump rite in to take ur 2B and in the first place u can actually convert ur license, now wouldn't that be a waste of money? u will also have to wait for a year to take ur class 2A and ANOTHER year for a Class 2.well there's no harm asking and being an expat u shd have no problems wif that.

A friend of mine had converted her Class 3 driving licence and all she had to do was just take a theory test to know the signages on S'pore roads and when she passed it, she just had to pay $50 for a conversion to S'pore Intl Licence.

Perhaps the same procedures still applies for a motorcycle licence.and all u gotta do is ask and enquire.

oh and she was also from the US..Salt Lake City.

I called the TP today and they said the rule is to convert to 2B for motorcyclists and 3 for cars. This is after passing the basic theory test which is what your friend took. So what she did was by the book. Converting to a 2A or 2 license instead of 2B is what is difficult/impossible to do.

Well, I second that. One of my friend had his license converted to FULL Class 2. I converted mine earlier this week. After much debate, I am issued with 2B license, which is ridiculous since I have never ridden anything that small for a long time. :(

2 years to go for bigger bike.

You got it right there, what she did was by the book. ALL ANG MOHs (pls get used to this term when u r in Singapore) in my company who rides, ride class 2 bikes without the need to go through the 'book' system. If you can proof that your license is genuine, no problem in converting them. Go ahead and buy the bike that meets your chemistry. Afterall a 1.92Mx130KG physique is far ‘too much’ for a 2B bike, reminds me of a Moscow Circus, a bear on a bicycle http://209.85.62.25/6364/148/emo/guling3.gifhttp://209.85.62.25/6364/148/emo/guling3.gifhttp://209.85.62.25/6364/148/emo/guling3.gif

Get it from Loois or any reputable outlet is the best as they can give better advice and all the necessary paperworks. Most of the Ang Mo in my company gets their bike from Loois (located at Kaki Bukit). Within six month, you will need to sits for a theory test. Simple test, multiple choice of A-B-C-D kind of questionnaire.

So far there hv been only one Ang Mo in my company who bumps into problem (I think he ask / expose too much unnecessary questions to the authority), what he did then was to get an endorsement of the license validity from his embassy.

That’s it, happy riding here in SINGAPORE. Yes I am proud of it, SINGAPORE, instead of someone in this thread call it as Sillypore, especially when answering a question by a foreigner :slapforehead: .

Those by the book rules were meant to be on the safe side for those who came from countries which the requirement to attained the license there is very porous. :goodluck:

Just try your luck and convert, see what you get. It would help if you have documentation showing you owned all those class 2 bikes for all these years past, are middle-aged, and have considerable riding experience. Some manage to convince the TP officer, others don't.

He who hesitates is lost!

Sorry to tell you that there is no way to rent a bike in HK due to insurance policy. :(

To TS regarding first post: think you should just get a 2A licence and get much better bikes catering to your height and power needs, 4 stroke with power and w/out 2T , with the size and handling etc. Just a lil more then 2B bikes :goodluck:
