hello hello, complete newbie here!

i am a girl turning 21 this year and thinking of getting a 2b license and fino but knows nothing at all.. seriously! tried finding info on things i wanna know but there's just not enough, unlike for cars

hopefully this is the right place, i have A LOT of questions, please don't mind me and i hope somebody can enlighten me! much much appreciated!

on license

1) how long does it take on the average from learning to getting a 2b license?

2) is it hard to pass the practical test? as far as i know it's pretty difficult for cars but i don't know about bikes!

3) how much on the average? i'm thinking SSDC because it's moving to near where i live.

4) what else should i know?

on fino

1) how much is a brand new fino?

2) which reputable dealer offers the most competitive price?

3) should i get a brand new one or a second hand one?

4) is a scooter hard to maintain? what are the basic things i should do to maintain it?

5) how is the fuel efficiency like?

6) is it hard to maneuver? i'm a girl and only 1.59m :shy:

7) how much does it cost to own a fino, on the monthly basis? including average fuel consumption if i'm just commuting to school, maintenance, etc.

8) other costs of owning a fino? such as road tax, ERP, hdb season parking and i really don't know what else!

9) are there bike loans? how much down payment is required if not paying by full sum, but taking a loan?

10) how about insurance?

11) what else should i know?

biking basics

1) where do you park your fino? cos i see some bikes parking at carparks but there are also bikes that parks anywhere and everywhere..

2) in what case do you get a ticket for illegal parking?

3) how do you know if the (say, shopping centre or whatever) carpark is open to bikes? where can you check?

4) where can you check parking rates?

5) in case of wet weather, what should be done? like, what should girls be wearing? what kind of jacket, raincoat, rainpants(?), shoes, gloves, etc?

6) what else should i know?

if somebody can have the patience to answer me, it will be much appreciated! i am really interested and really need (as you can tell) A LOT of help! thank you kind souls in advance!!!

I was hoping for some Fino riders to reply your questions but your 21 questions must have scared many people off :giddy:

There's a whole bunch of info out here and in the internet. Read them with a pinch of salt, as not all are truth, or only applicable under certain situations.

on license

1) how long does it take on the average from learning to getting a 2b license?

Average data only available from centre but if they give the stats, must people will walk away. The first step is always tough. Took me 5 months from start to 1st TP test, 13 practical lessons and 7 revisions. Flunked the 1st test. Demoralised, waited 3 months for 2nd test and 2 more revisions. And I have 10 years driving experiences! All only weekend lessons as working. Of course if you can learn everyday, it'll be faster.

2) is it hard to pass the practical test? as far as i know it's pretty difficult for cars but i don't know about bikes!

For mine, only 23 out of about 80 passed as it was a rainy day.

3) how much on the average? i'm thinking SSDC because it's moving to near where i live.

In all, I spent $787 for 2B but only $320 for 2A.

4) what else should i know?

Test is in morning. So best to learn in the morning to get used to environment and road conditions.

9) are there bike loans? how much down payment is required if not paying by full sum, but taking a loan?

10) how about insurance?

11) what else should i know?

You're wise to choose automatic bikes for new rider. I used to own a Yamaha Nouvo Elegance which is slightly larger than Fino. Really economical and easy to ride. If you intend to stick to Fino, then it's ok to get new. If not, you'll lose big time if you sell within 3 years. I "lost" almost $2k when I sold mine after 1 year. For you, the biggest costs will be insurance since you are young and "P" plate. Expect about $1k. I paid $400+ for 2B bike with "P" plate but only $300+ for 2A bike now. If possible, try not to loan as shops charge 5% flat for new bike and 8% flat for old bike. They are the legalised loan sharks.

biking basics

1) where do you park your fino? cos i see some bikes parking at carparks but there are also bikes that parks anywhere and everywhere..

You can park anywhere that's not a motorcycle lot but don't get caught.

2) in what case do you get a ticket for illegal parking?

anywhere that's not a motorcycle lot.

3) how do you know if the (say, shopping centre or whatever) carpark is open to bikes? where can you check?

call up the mall's customer service and ask. if not just ride there and try. worst case is just U-turn and try another place.

4) where can you check parking rates?

at the carpark entrance. or call up the customer service. some places are foc for bikes parking :thumb:

5) in case of wet weather, what should be done? like, what should girls be wearing? what kind of jacket, raincoat, rainpants(?), shoes, gloves, etc?

leave bike at carpark and take public transport. if halfway, no choice but to gear up for wet weather and ride on. girls should be wearing the same as guys when raining, else you may cause accidents as you will distract drivers and other riders :p

6) what else should i know?

Just be safe when riding and no heroine acts. But first, you need to learn and pass the TP test!

hey, anyone of u guys experience a sudden split second lost of power when u throttle up? It felt like e roller spins too fast for e belt to catch up with it then suddenly it accelerates. Kindof dangerous especially during turn.

Comments?

1) Ard 4.2k to 5k

2) Cant ans this as price differs time to time

3) This depends on u, if u intend to sell 1-2 yrs after use den it's not worth it to buy brand new. Or should u upgrade to class 2A.

4) Not really.

- Petrol (each top up if full tank cost $6-$7. Full tank max 4.1 litre)

- 1 Spark plug (i change every 5000-8000km, depends)

- Engine oil (for me i change it every 2000km) (Fino use only 3/4 bottle) It cost me $21 for MAXIMA Extra. There is 2 type of oil, semi-synthetic or 100% synthetic. 100% syn for this case.

- Gear oil (this is diff from engine oil, every 2-3 Engine Oil change must change once) This cost $45.

- Fino belting (Every 20,000-25,000km) This cost more than $100)

- Tyres u shld pump ard 180-220kpa (i pump 220kpa, hard and smooth) New tyre cost $500+

- Brake pads (depends how often u ride, ask bikeshop check for u)

- Battery (last ard 1 and half year, cost ard $40-50 ea)

5) Average ard 40-42km/Litre (it can travel average ard 178km full tank. u need to visit petrol station average twice per week, depends ur riding style full blast or ride slowly.) I use ESSO 8000.

6) Its easy to maneuver, u can do really tight U turn wif this bike. 1.59cm is cfm no problem. (note fino seat height is lower than vespa)

7) Depends on how often u ride and how far.

Each month, it cost me ard $45 (petrol) and $17 for season parking. U dun do engine oil (EO) or maintainence every month.

8) These are the choppers:

- Insurance (21 yr old should cost ard $600-$1000)

- Road tax (is ard $40 i tink cant rmb exact amt)

- Season parking (cost $15/17, $17 is for multistory carpark)

- Cashcard for ERP/shopping centre parking gantry ($10-20 per month shd be enough, depends on ERP rate and other cost. Note after 8pm weekday and sun no ERP, sat only central area got ERP)

- Coupon cost $6.50 for coupon parking areas

- Fines and misc (Dun calc budget too tight, fines might crop up. $8 fine for parking without coupon on WHITE lines. $32 for RED lines [season parking lots] $70 for illegal pavement parking. Parking at void deck even more exp ard $100-1000. $130 for riding in bus lane during peak hrs.

Riding through ERP gantry w/o cashcard fine is $10.50.

9) Min downpayment should be $500. All depends on bike shop policy.

10) Insurance is 1 yr. Roadtax is 6months. You cannot renew your roadtax without valid insurance and vice versa.

11) Let me know if u have any...

These 2 items should not cost so much. Don't get chopped.
