Ya. truly WTF. It was just the rear bumper that broke.

 

I am very anxious about this. I spoke to the insurance company and they are going to revert back to me soon with further details. I will keep you all posted.

Sometime back I had met with an accident, details of which I shared with you. Last week, I renewed my insurance and it was told to me that the claim was made by the other party for 3000. My premium went up to 272, third party only.

 

Today I got letter from the other party's driver claiming damages for nearly 15,000. Does it mean that I have to pay the rest?

 

Can anyone please clarify?

OK I spoke to the claims department. The lady said, they received this letter also. They are going to reinspect the vehicle to check for consistency.

 

She said - If the insurance company does not settle, then they will sue you independently. But, in this case - since our client is in fault, we will settle. Obviously, we won't pay whatever they ask for - we are not a charity organization. We will settle for you, but your premium will go up after we settle.

 

She said, the amount is high because, the claim is for the frontal damage as well. She said, although my bike did not cause the damage to the front, there is some protocol they have to follow.

 

After she said this - i got pretty shameless and asked - If you settle with this guy for 6000, does it mean he will come after me for the other 9k? she said NO. I feel better but will wait to see how it goes.

 

The 1000, is just "costs". No other details.

 

By the way, to fix the damages on my bike costed 450. Thanks guys, will keep you posted.

You mentioned your insurance company said that the driver claiming 3k?

Then from where this 15k came?

There cannot be 2 amounts.

Basically, you dont need to respond or worry about this matter. You should direct the 15k claim to your insurance company. That is what the insurance is for. The amount doesnt matter. What will happen is an investigation will take place and then if you are found wrong, then your insurance company will pay that amount. Usually it wont be 100% your fault. It will be a percentage like 50-50, 70-30 etc. The insurance company will pay only that percentage of amount corresponding to your fault. i.e. if you 50% at fault. The insurance company will pay 50%, the rest the car driver has to fork out. You just dont need to worry. You maximum loss is the additional premium loading.

 

The worst case scenario for you is, if the amount claimed is really as big as 15k, then your insurance company may refuse to insure you in the future. Also other insurance companys also may refuse to insure you in the future. Remember this is the worst case scenario. I am not saying this will happen. Its unlikely to happen especially if its your 1st accident.

 

I had an accident last year and the driver claimed 3k and it case is still going on. Its already 1 year. So these things can take a long time, 2-3 years also easily.

 

Under the legal section, I have posted my accident case and I have got some valuable responses. I will check if I can find that thread.

Just added K21 side boxes (actually wanted E21, hope no diff haha) to my pulsar 180! not sure the market rate, but i paid $240 for adding the brackets, labour cost and the box. Also did wielding to side stand to make it prop up higher, but now the problem is must either side stand all the way or mainstand all the way cause they get in each other's way (so lyrical haha). Guys any idea wats the weight limit to boxes? think the k21 is 4kg each, and the 42l box is 5kg right? oh yea, i did the above at "Super Speed Accessories", 221 lavender street.

yup. battalax bridgestone are damn pricey tyres and good at the same time! dont mind spending alot for safety.

YEs .. Battlax are very good tyres .... No need to regret for safety r more priority !! .. Have been using the Battlax for 2 cycle change for my ride before decided to change feel for other option ...

 

 

However other option for budget constraints you can opt for Dunlop or Shinko or IRC ...

 

I just changed my rear tyre couple days ago from Shinko 130/70 korea ( $80+ at dat time 1yr 5mths life span) to IRC Road Winner (Thailand) 140/70 ($105) ... tested on both wet n dry weather ... seems ok with stability n comfort during ride ... actually still prefer Shinko 130/80 $95 but dun noe how eventually opted for IRC ... hahahaha
