abit gave up on talking to her on this topic liao :sian:

maybe the riding schools can have a 1/2 or 1 day orientation/lesson for not riding pillions on the safety aspects of riding :)

wah..really ar but me cant kena rape by dogs...bcoz for muslim the dogs is dirty we cant touch it..how i wish to go nanas trip..nvr mind next year can join u all guys...

Errm... I'm always amazed at how strong this myth is anchored in this part of the planet. It's funny how culture and habits can take over religious matters quite easily and anchor "believes" that are passed along as "rules". Just as a side note, a lot of muslims around the world do have dogs, are working in a profession involving dogs, and hang around dogs (at their house, work place etc.) - and it's not regarded as a bad thing by the muslim community, far from it. (PS: this is again just a side note, merely a comment. I do not wish to start a religious debate here so please do not quote the prophet saws to me. I just want to say, you're muslim, you can go to NANAS, it's ok!)

i am well now saferider..thanks bro...yeah the driver sometimes like that...i hate lady driver i dunno how they passed their license...

Hello, being a lady doesn't make you more prone to driving badly. I bet if we took a poll in this forum and ask riders who have been involved in accidents what is the gender of the person driving the car that hit them, they most probably gonna say "a man". Let's not fall into easy generalizations :thumb:

I think you should youtube bike accidents, or email her a copy of stories posted here by riders, I'm sure that will make her think twice.

Not too long ago (less than a month) I was still saying that I'd ride my future bike wearing a tank top because of the heat. I used to say I'd wear boots only because I don't want to mess up my shoes with the gear lever etc.

Today, I know that even if wearing all the appropriate gear can be "leycheh", I will wear it, no matter if it's hot or raining outside. At 30km/h you can get your bones fractured, what do you think can happen to you at 70 or 90km/h if you're wearing a t-shirt or a basketball jacket?

What convinced me to wear all the gear is my meeting with experienced riders who ride big or small bikes. They all have great riding skills and have seen many km on their bikes. They still say "Don't compromise on gear". Even if they are experienced and have good riding skills, they will still put on that huge padded jacket and full face helmet and boots and gloves and wear jeans, even for a 5min ride.

I'm thinking, I don't care if it's too hot, or if it's troublesome to carry/change into the gear everytime I ride, if it saves me from ending up in a hospital bed, I will dress to look like freaking Robocop if I have to.

You think you don't need it and it's wasted money, until the day where you'll need it and you'll regret not having it.

Well, that would be subjective eh? I won't want to spend too much time, money on gear as well if all I'm doing is having a short ride.

Of course, I will go full gear if we're going on a trip to the North, but not when I'm riding from Tampines to Bedok :)

But hey, that's your personal preference, who am I to intervene, but my personal preference is still comfort :D

Safety tips:

Always STOP at the STOP LINE!

Don't rush. You're not racing for a record.

Always look in front, especially when trying to change lanes, the vehicle in front might jam brake.

Don't be easily offended, a**holes exists, mingling with them gets you sh*t.

i agree

also seen some guys who are poor drivers

personally know of a lady friend who can drive at 90-100km/h and eat "ba zang" (rice dumpling) at the same time, sometimes both hands off the wheel

Scary story mjbs64... Your helmet was a full face or not? Cause if you hit the lorry face first, shouldn't the helmet protect your mouth and teeth?

Thanks for sharing, for a newbie like me, it's very good to hear these scary stories. I hope I won't forget them when I'll get used to riding!

I understand how it's not convenient to wear full gear all the time. I agree with alvinyansg, at least we should remember the basics (covered shoes, gloves..).

I don't know, I guess full gear will make me feel safer and more "protected" than t-shirt and shorts, it's probably in the head but still, when I see/read about accidents, I can't help but think twice about the gear. :cheeky:
