if he travels on bukit timah road daily, he'll probably need to pump 10 to 20 times a day. haha

and he'll need to come out early every day by 1/2 hr at least.

Fuel Economy Myths debunked

fill up when it's cool

False. Both Consumer Reports and Popular Mechanics have ruled this rumor false. Modern pumps are temperature-compensated to regulate fuel density, according to Popular Mechanics. Even if they weren't, gas temperatures typically remain stable all day, Consumer Reports writes, rendering the advantage of going out of your way to pump at a certain time negligible.

Pump slowly

False. There's no truth to this claim, according to John Paul, AAA's Car Doctor. Gas station systems are designed so that little air or fumes will take the place of the gas for which you're paying dearly. There is one perk to pumping slowly, according to Paul. "What that will do, the end result is you will get a fuller tank, but you're still paying for it."

Avoid filling up when you see a fuel truck

False. While a fuel delivery may stir up sediment that gathers in a station tank, both the gas station and the car have filters that will prevent sand or dirt from affecting your car's performance.

It's somewhat of a hold over fear dating back to when gas tanks were made of metal rather than fiberglass, said John Paul, AAA's Car Doctor, in an interview. Stations regularly test their fuel supply for quality, he said.

"If you're on 'E,' and the low fuel light's on, and the only station around is the one with the tanker, go, and get the gas," Paul said.

it's common for kup rider to overflow.. esp when u're new.. i tend to overflow sometimes too hahas.. but it takes practice to get it.. =)

Hmmmm.. alrighty than.. Thanks for the Information!

Btw, I'm currently on Caltex with Techron and i've tried V-power. Is it really true they clean engines? How about Shell 98? I'm stuck between these two brands but more to Caltex

if the petrol happens to overflow onto the tank, just wipe it off quickly with a damp cloth. don't rub or buff it. if you have water to rinse it off before wiping, even better. special grade petrol like techron and v°power contain detergents or simply ingredients that help to loosen carbon and gummy deposits so that it can be burned off during normal combustion, that's what the companies claim.

usually the only reason for choosing a certain fuel company is because of the discount you are entitled to due to your membership with 3rd parties, eg credit card.

i chose Caltex over shell coz i save $300 a year with extra 5% discount. i lost a good feeling of torque though, but i learnt to ride slower and safer as a result. haha (also save fuel)

haha..... i dun think theres anymore savings to speak of in 2008.

whatever you save in Jan 2008 to April 2008, they all take back in May 2008.
