eg. bike A max HP 80HP @9500rpm

bike B max HP 112HP @12000rpm

so does dis mean that for bike A even at 11000rpm it's still gonna produce only 80hp???

i'm sorry of this stupid qs for some.. still a novice :cheeky:

nope, dis is not a stupid qn.

u r rite. Bike A will not produce 80hp at 11000rpm. Once it reaches its peak power of 80hp at 9500rpm, the power will kinda tapers down.

In short, redline rpm is not equal to highest power output.

yea this not stupid question i believe not alot of ppl understand also.. includin me ba ahah..but from my knowledge if drag till redline engine is veri stress out and cannot drag in redline for long if not sure got prob one .

In basic, HP is a function of RPM, in calculation, as long as you can increase the RPM, you will increase HP. In fact, HP, itself, is quite meaningless. The engine peak performance is governed by a more important parameter which is the torque curve.

eg. bike A max HP 80HP @9500rpm

bike B max HP 112HP @12000rpm

Based on your numbers, the peak torque can be calculated :

Bike A = 44.2lb-ft (foot pounds)

Bike B = 49.0lb-ft

To interpret, basically Bike A has peak torque of 44.2lb-ft at 9500rpm, the torque will drop proportionately before, and after 9500rpm, with that you can derive the torque curve.

During Face-off - Looking soley at the numbers, and presumbly both bikes have similar weight and gearings.

In a drag race, Bike A will have a slight advantage due to its peak torque occuring a little earlier in the rev range while Bike B has a wider, flatter curve. From somewhere in the mid range and up, however, Bike B will begin to pull away. Bike A will shift gears earlier than Bike B, and as the speeds climb, and as long as the revs are high, Bike B will have the advantage.

That's how it happen in my mind
