Hi there... I'm new here! I will be relocating from MY to SG in a few months and would love to get some recommendations on popular 2nd hand tourer/sport-tourer bikes for commuting in SG & occasional touring into MY? I am really just looking to get a 'feel' for the 2nd hand tourer market for now and would really appreciate any advice on the most popular makes & models in SG, low maintenance bikes, easy to service and get parts for, comfort level, anything to avoid?, etc. My budget would be up to the S$20k mark (but preferably less!) including the motorbike COE. Also, my preference would be for a Japanese bike. I've owned several Japanese bikes over the past 10+ years in a number of different countries and have found that you just can't beat their reliability... They never skip a beat - in any climate! ;) I currently own an older Deauville 650 as a run-around back home. Great bike but would like to go bigger... I have a full, unrestricted 'A-category' EU motorcycle licence so I shouldn't be limited to any power/weight or kW restrictions in SG as far as I know. Again, any advice appreciated. Thanks!

concerning your licence. you need to refer to LTA or TP about that. met a brit a few years back who coincidentally wanted to buy my deauville 650. it seeemed he he also got the eu licence and such but alas, he need to take some kind of test here.

now about bike, from your post, i would say you are abt average size, around 170cm to 178cm. that puts you into many bikes you can ride. the rage here for touring are the yamaha fjr and honda 1300. there are many of course. you can go to sbf bike market or another famous site . sgbike and such.

good luck

NC750 is a great common sense choice, but it has exactly the same power as your Deauville, and probably less torque. Not the most exciting bike, but reliable, great fuel economy and a good commuter.

Yes, I will follow up re licence with the LTA. My research / sources tell me that a foreigner can exchange their foreign licence for a Singaporean one. However, I believe I will have to sit the BTT (Basic Theory Test) within 12 months of arrival in SG. Now, about the bikes - yes, I am about 174cm tall. Had not thought about the yamaha FJR / honda 1300 before now so thanks for that! will check out the sites you recommended in more detail.:thumb:

You probably have noticed by now, adventure bikes are pretty common on the roads here so getting a used/new to you that falls in your budget shouldn't be that difficult.

So how was your bike choice and riding life in SG?:-)

All good, mishfinn! thank you for asking. sorry, I haven't logged into the forum for a long time. I opted for the FJR and absolutely love it!! ;)

By the way, do you or anyone else out there know of any touring groups / weekly ride-out groups that go for kopi in JB etc? I am also keen to ride way up north some day, e.g., Cameron Highlands, Penang, Phuket and so on.
