I'm the one who put that up earlier on this year. Even if you pay for the season parking, it ain't worth. Park at Midlink Plaza and walk over.

Thank horizoner,

If not, I may park at the MSCP at the HDB block, 5A nearby, just saw from street directory.

but event if u can park at MOE, it's quite faraway from HV. just go straight park at the 2-level carpark or hdb carparks near HV.

Thank you fantom,

ya, agree with you, it's quite far to HV. So I may park at the MSCP at 5A. Not too sure on the 2 storey carpark if we are allowed.

take care

The following is a letter that I intend to write to the authorities. In summary, it addresses the unfairness that riders are succumbed to in shopping center carparks. (Vivocity!!!!!) Who can suggest where should this letter be channelled to?

________________________________________________________________

Riding a motorcycle is an economical form of personal transport, considering the soaring petrol price and other road related charges. However, little is done by some shopping centers’ developer when the car park was designed. When riders are denied entry into certain buildings, they are deprived of the equal respect that other road users take for granted.

I shall recount one unpleasant incident at VivoCity on 7th October 2006. The security guards at the VivoCity car park entrance denied my entry into the car park, on the pretext that there is no bike parking lot in it. Although I explained that I am rushing to catch a movie in the building and I offered to pay a car’s parking fee to enter, the guards flatly rejected my plea. I did not pursue this matter any further and tried in vain to find a legal parking space in the surrounding area: World Trade Center and Seah Im Public Car Park. World Trade Center has a No-Bike policy too while Seah Im Public Car Park was all full. A quick glance revealed at least 20 over bikes crowding the pavement near VivoCity. Not wanting to park illegally on the pavement, I left the place disgruntled. As a result, I forwent the movie and shopping plan.

Not all instances of illegal pavement parking by motorcyclists are act of inconsideration. In the case of VivoCity, riders are forced to inconvenience the public by crowding the pavement due to the inconsideration to them. There is a long list of buildings and shopping centers that adopt this unfair No-Bike entry policy to their car park (Refer to Appendix A). Is LTA monitoring this situation, ensuring that every vicinity has sufficient legal parking place for motorcycles?

Other buildings that allow motorcycles entry has either adopted a pay per entry or free entry policy. Some of the buildings did not justify the parking fee paid by motorcyclists. Tangs Shopping Center charges a flat fee of $3 per entry, one of the most expensive in Singapore. However, the management did not provide any individual bike lots in the first few levels of the car park. Instead, riders have to share the designated bike areas or circle all the way to level 8/9 for individual bike lots. Far East Shopping Center charges a flat rate of 60cents but overcrowding is a common scene in the motorcycles parking area.

Plaza Singapura, Marina Square and The Esplanade have motorcyclist-friendly car park. Not only did they allow free entries for bikes, sufficient individual bike lots are catered for too.

Each car park should have sufficient bike lots. Those that charge a fee should also have proper lots for individual bike, not merely providing a mass parking area.

I hope the authorities will address the unfairness that motorcyclists are put through at some buildings. Motorcyclists are the minorities but they equally deserved the respect as road users in car parks. The lack of consideration for motorcyclists can cause great inconvenience and unpleasant riding experience for them.

u shud channel this letter to LTA and CC to Vivocity management...

but tink lots wud wana know...

there are bikes park in vivocity carpark...

and comparatively wise..... tink vivocity got bigger car park den suntec... ot at least same amt as suntec/plaza sing/ IMM

Best can send to Straits Times, TNP, STOMP.... One motoring....

Itz time we bikers make a stand.....

N seriousli.... i tink Tang's "$3 parking entrance fee" is atrocious..... daylight robbery....

Kudos to horizoner and those who take their precious time to write in...I have written to VivoCity & Mapletree, The New Paper and Get Real @ Channelnewsasia but have yet to receive any reply from them...Maybe TNP is already picking up the story and I hope the article would be published soon....

Meanwhile, I can only hope that more people write in to the media and authorities so that they would start to pay attention to this issue of motorcycle parking in certain malls, particularly VivoCity.

:thumb: to all bikers!! :cheer:

"Shaw Towers ($1.00)

Hi, I went there last week at noon, saw the sign indicating $1 per entry.

Was stopped by the guy in the booth to make cash payment of $1... After paying, he did not lift the gantry for me to enter, so I had to ride by the gap which was big enough for my phantom to go through.

In black and white need to pay but if a biker just ride through, the person wouldn't be able to do anything I guess...

There were many bikes there, i wonder if they paid???

Dear Mr xxx,

Thank you for your email.

We would like to take this opportunity to assure you that we welcome all visitors to VivoCity, regardless of the mode of transportation they utilise to arrive here.

We are currently expediting efforts to complete the parking facilities for motor-cycles in time for the official opening of VivoCity on 1 Dec.

We hope this delay would not dissuade you from continuing to visit VivoCity. We look forward to any further constructive suggestions you may have to improve our services to our visitors.

Thank you and regards.

they also reply me liao dont know whan can park bike there n how much will it cost?

Just a few thoughts,

To avoid an influx of massive undesired parkings by the workers of the nearby shipping/construction companies, VivoCity would most likely charge for motorcycle entry IF they do decide to cater for it.

All this entails is for them to configure their IU Scanners to allow motorcycle entry.

==> AKA No shortening of barrier needed

==> Little or no cost incurred since the company in charge of parking is still under contract

Further action taken by them would be to seek appropriate spaces to paint bike lots in VivoCity. I've not been to their carpark yet, but I am pretty sure that there would not be many large areas to provide for proper designated bike parking like that of Suntec City. As such, do expect for bike lots to be sporadic and all over the place.

==> Issues of bike safety? Possibly negated by the fact that bikes have to pay to enter.

==> Cost of creating bike lots = How much $ could NIPPON and couple of brushes cost???? Don't give me the bull that you can afford Segways for your pseudo security and not for some basic DIY materials.

CONCLUSION

We'll have to sit on our arses and wait till some deskbound pen pushing executive "kenna arrowed" to actually leave his seat (imagine that! the horror!) and go walk the carpark to actually realise that there are spaces for bikes in the carpark.

Time taken before they do something = Too damn long

So keep flooding them with complains and appeal letters guys. I've discovered that thats the way the system works in Singapore for you guys.

Cheers and kudos to those who are leading the way in getting the goodies for us!

Say...

What then for those who have only motorcycles for transport? Impossibility due to barriers of entry is not quite "dissuasion" is it?

:bouncefire: Wanking statements... Get something done and stop patronising the motorcyclists.

(I know my reactions kinda emotional and without thought... But hey... You can only oppress bikers for that long yeah?) :faint:
