Yesterday's kopitiam engineering session somehow involved a Hayabusa.

There was also a Phantom that can spit flame out of its exhaust. Lol. Got youtube evidence. But don't have owner permission to share. How? :p

So power you mean when riding got flame spit out?

Exhaust gasket ruptured cos this engine was custom built for super high compression. Top speed is unknown, but it cruises at 150kph easily.

We didn't really care, the afterburner was awesome.

Awesome when can see video?

Hey guys,

I noticed that in my phantom the chain roller guide grooves are filled with thick grease that cant be removed quite easily by a cloth, need some other tool, haha

BTW, I also noticed that the chain in nice condition, there is no stretching at all and it has a decent slack, but the chain doesnt exactly firmly sit on the roller guide. It touches the roller guide just a wee bit, I can actually freely roll the roller guide with my fingers and hence the groves are filled with thick grease.

Now my question is should the chain firmly sit on the grooves of the roller guide? Or should it not?

there shudnt even be grooves. a new one has a flat smooth surface for the chain to slide over, n also doesnt catch any grease. the groove will only create more friction. i change mine myself for only $5.

Oh IC IC. Thanks. My previous phantom had deep groves, so I thought grooves are normal. My current one has very light grooves and I was thinking the grooves are filled with grease :slapforehead: haha

Muahahaha! Roller grooves!!!!

My previous roller had that too.

But Ah Chong said can change already!

Use until max already.

Haha, the shape of the grooves were so perfect in my earlier phantom that inner and outer plates of the chain would sit so nicely in them. I was thinking the grooves were factory made and the roller's job is to make sure chain sits in the grooves so that it doesn't fly off the sprockets. Hence the name roller guide .

Now I am wondering what is the job of the roller

HAHAHA! dont worry. i was exactly like u wen i got my bike. LOL. i tink the roller is to prevent the chain from slapping around wen there is a sudden jolt to the rear tyre (whack hump or sumting) and it seems to maintain the chain tension also.

haha. just guessing! could be wrong!

is it normal if the bike does not warm up long enough, it will die easily? like into gear 1, gradually release clutch and then throttle a little then it dies off. Usually happens at junctions after riding off from stationary parking but doesnt occur after a long distance cruising.

-just changed EO recently,within 1000km

-clutch plate changed recently

-clutch cable no problem

never washed carb and sparkplug on 3000km...thinking of problem from this 2 only..

*edit*

just changed rear brake too, any affecting factor?

Hi Guys,

Recently encountered a problem. Here's the incidents:

1. Went to coffeeshop, few hrs later tried to start bike but neutral lights off. Check ignition is on, check gear is neutral. Tried to start, totally cannot. Troubleshoot gear and ignition switch but no luck. Finally, did a push start, and bike started.

2. Riding halfway home.....bike just died and had to clutch in and steer bike to side of road. Kick to neutral gear and check ignition is on....but neutral light not `lighted'. Again tried to troubleshoot but no avail. Tried pushstart several times, but this time, not successful. Give up and call Ah Chong to tow to workshop.

The next day, went to shop. I switch on ignition but no light. Chong came later and switch on ignition...now neutral light is showing and can start bike. He says probably CDI. So change to 2nd hand CDI as new one no stock. Now, back home, switch off engine. Decided to turn the ignition switch on/off a few times to see any issue...and true enough, the neutral light did not come on after a few times. Called Chong and F him tat change CDI also cannot. He says tat if he cannot see the problem, cannot solve.

Wat do u guys think? Anyone faced the same problem?? I'm thinking the ignition switch is faulty, thus the intermittent issue.

i duno hw OK is the 2nd hand CDI. if thats nt the prob, it cud be ur ignition switch or ur kill switch. bring it back to ahchong n have him go over these parts again.

i suspect ur caliper pistons are jammed n not retracting smoothly. bring to ur mech to ask to service n clean d calipers. if not serious, a good cleaning of ur calipers shud be sufficient. if nt, might hv to change the seals n pistons as well.
