Rounded Allen Bolt

There are three ways to go about removing the rounded nut that i know of. One. Take a chisel or sharp edged tool and hammer an indent into the end of the bolt before screwing it out with a philip head screw driver (I am assuming yourounded the bolt manually and not with power tools)

Two. Weld another piece of metal to the end (or a nut so you can use a spanner) and then slowly extract the bolt.

Lastly, Drill the mother****er to bits (but be careful not to **** it up and mess up the screw thread)

 

tried the first, but since no chisel, didn't make an impressive slot enough to twist a screwdriver.

 

the second one, i think the proximity of the welding will scorch the chrome

 

3, yes that is what i do, drill the mother****er through. now there's a **** inside.

Two methods which I always use - the second method is safer but a bit messy because of metal dust ...

 

1) Get a good-quality screwdriver that you can sacrifice. Hammer it into the rounded bolt-head, then screw the damaged bolt out. Be careful when hammering, not to damage the part the bolt is meant to hold together! (e.g. calipers, cylinder head etc.)

 

2) File two opposite sides of the bolt-head, in order to turn it into a nut. Use an adjustable spanner and screw away ...

Yah, but the chrome that the bolt is attached to will be damaged.

i've got a lot of rounded rusty screw..

 

how do i remove them?..

spray a little lubricant to loosen it 1st.. best is to try near hardware shops so the moment you remove them you can bring to the shop and buy new ones..
