Think there is some extractin tool you can find online..Not sure how much it costs tho..But I've successfully removed a couple usin a drill (last resort) and another way is using a slightly bigger allen key size..

there's tis hexagonal shape tool dat looks lyk an allen key instead looks lyk a flower. dunno wat dat tool call. juz hammer'd it into the rounded bolt & da "petals" will create a thread on the sidewalls of the slot. saw a mechanic do it on my brake caliper once when it rounded off. thought he gonna change da whole caliper sia. heng ar....

there are many ways to extract a stuck screw...but there is only one right way.

 

others ways may make it worse..like breaking tools ..damaging the thread etc..

 

the correct way is to use what is known a s a screw/bolt extractor...

 

get the correct size and drill it...for the job.

 

1.after selecting the correct extractor( there is one for left hand threads so get the correct one) and bit...drill a pilot hole in the damage bolt/screw..maybe by about 10 mm..into the allen screw .

2. the using the extractor like a tap..and screw it in..anti-clockwise..

3. keep on screwing ..and magically the damaged allen screw will be unscrewed out by the extractor..

 

if the screw size is small like m3 or smaller... you have to have a steady hand to drill a tiny hole...so becareful..

i read about this, but no power supply below HDB leh. cannot operate the drill... can always drop it from my flat but i think it's too high up oredi.

An alternative I've seen is welding.

Get the shop to weld in a longer screw to use a leverage.

I had a bolt snap off while tightening my radiator to its mount point. The shop simply welded a longer screw to it. Waited for it cool down sufficiently and then unscrew it as normal.

certain hdb areas got power supply wat. kapo-kapo electric lor, cum jurong east if you want to, juz need an extension wire

talk about it, maybe half of it requires pray pray at Tua Beh Kong before proceeding...

At the end of the day, all these methods need a bit of skill.

easiest way i think is to use those extractors

 

At the end of the day, all these methods need a bit of skill.

I always use a smaller sized drillbt and drill it out..So far so good..

last time i removed all rounded allen bolts another way.. didnt really know such extractors existed..

juz use an adjustable vice grip lo.. i always use that to remove stuck screws..

update

 

so far, what have happened... I rounded a set of extractors because I tot they can be drilled in, nope, that's wrong.

 

Hence, bought a new set, drilled pilot hole before using and tried using, extractors cannot fit into the drill. No grip. -.-"

 

Then, at least, got a tap wrench, swee swee nice nice, removed first one (out of two). Yay, then during the 2nd one, it broke. -.-"

 

Cannot imagine the amount of cursing I made for 10 mins.

 

But at least now I got my rack installed and new screws for those I removed. Left one which I require more professional help already.

 

Thus said, anyone knows if I can drill into the broken piece of the extractor, I dun really know if the drill bit can drill through the extractor steel.

There are three ways to go about removing the rounded nut that i know of. One. Take a chisel or sharp edged tool and hammer an indent into the end of the bolt before screwing it out with a philip head screw driver (I am assuming yourounded the bolt manually and not with power tools)

Two. Weld another piece of metal to the end (or a nut so you can use a spanner) and then slowly extract the bolt.

Lastly, Drill the mother****er to bits (but be careful not to **** it up and mess up the screw thread)

if it's broken, same application options are viable as well

This snapped allen head M5X14mm stainless steel bolt with 8mm of remaining glued by thread locker in the cylinder head cost me a lot of time and patience to extract it.
