Here is mazda 2 1.5V recommended fuel grade:

http://www.oneshift.com/pdb/cd.php?pid=1312&cb=/articles/article.php

It stated : Recommended Fuel Grade 92 RON

does that that it is better to pump a 92 RON??

or it is a minimum fuel grade that is allow?

so if i pump 95 it will give better performance?

jus stick to RON95 n above

I have been pumping 92 RON for my 525i since the first day.

No issue, and better mileage compared to when i pumped 98 to try.

No need to purposely pump a higher grade lah

just pump the recommended.

many ppl have misconception higher octane will give more power.

the fact is high octane prevents pre-detonations or knocking.

basic guideline for which octane to use depends on engine compressions.

most passenger/family car engine compression r below 10:1 which is why car manufacturers recommend use RON92.

next performance car with 10~12:1 compression, recommended use ron95.

high end or sport car with > 12:1 compression, recommend use ron98 or above octane depends on how highly tuned it's engine r running.

u r waste money if u use higher octane fuel than recommended.

It really depends on how you define wastage of money. By using the minimum octane number required eg. Pumping RON95 for Peugeot 207VTI which demands a minimum of RON95 will only be considered as on the safer end as the compression ratio demand is met by the higher resistance against pre-detonation. A premium fuel will on the other hand further reduce the possibilities of predetonation. And this can bring about better mileage. Well.. of course one has to determine whether the extra money paid to pump the premium fuel.

If the mileage does not compensate the extra amount of money paid to pump the fuel then you are better off with the minimum RON demanded from the vehicle.

For my 525i min octane level is 91 RON.

so i simply pump 92RON or 95RON if 92 is not available.

for my HD, it's 95 RON so i pump either 95 or 98 if 95 not available

Both my cars demand a minimum of RON95. I think it is because of the different location the vehicle is built. My car is mostly built in UK even though it's German (RHD plant). My previous French car should also be in UK or Belgium. Some BMW I know eg. E90 is built in S Africa. I presume yours is the 525i (E60) Engine capacity : 160 kW / 218 HP displacement : 2996 ccm

model year : 01/2007 -

KBA-Nr: 0005AIA

KTYP-No : 22657

motor code : N53B25A

That's why the difference in the minimum fuel RON.

my boss complains abt lower mileage when he pumps 95 instead of v-pwr for his gt3 and slk55.

his logic i agree with, spend so much on the car, whats the diff in spending 30-40cents more a litre??!?!?!? hahahah.....

anyway guys, i believe theres a diff between US and europe ron standards.

eg us 89 ron = europe's 92 ron?

so depending where your car is made, it could mean a different rating from what you see at the pumps here.

maybe somebody can clarify this.

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

1. vehicle category : Pkw

2. manufacturer: BMW

3. model list: 5 (E60)

4. type : 525i

Engine capacity : 141 kW / 192 HP

displacement : 2494 ccm

model year : 09/2003 -

KBA-Nr: 0005783

country limitation: (not valid for) CDN, USA

KTYP-No : 17293

motor code : M54256S5

That's a whopping 22hp more than my car but almost a liter more in displacement.

i'm not into big horses or speed, About 200bhp is more or less enough.

prefer good brand with reputation, quality build, good size cabin, handsome looks, smooth and inspiring drive.

But we cannot deny how much things have advanced over a short period of 3 years. Engines are getting smaller and more powerful. But apart from the road tax and environment, we don't seem to benefit much from it. The cars still demand a similar price.

cars are much cheaper to buy nowadays but much more expensive to maintain.

we will never benefit, we are tax payers, hahah

In the end everything is LPPL. Back to square one. I merely shift the hole elsewhere.
