V-Strom (650cc & 1000cc)

Weak battery is a possibility.... Maybe short fuse but then again it shouldn't start again the next day...

For the first time since 3.5 yrs, Vstrom had failed me . He died on me early in the morning after only 2 traffic lights.

Its like a heart attack / failure .... suddenly everything blackout . Tried to resuscitate but failed. Not a single crank . Even the panels wipeout.

It leave me with no choice but to push it bac to my carpark . Early morning workout.

 

The next morning , i tried again . Suprising Vstrom started like normal .

?????? Leave it running or some time , even take it out for a short run . Everthings seemed to be normal .

Totally cluelesss..... Could it be ..... 7 mth ?

 

 

Dun want to take chances , and dun want to risk being stranded along any expressway ... I took Vstrom for a checkup @ Guan Hoe .now awaiting medical results .. Hope its not that serius .

Pump air then forget to off lightings...

went toilet came back.. all in all about 10mins.. my bike cant crank.

Each time try to start.... the meter rechecks again...

End up some kind souls ( the petrol station pumping attendance uncle & a Taxi uncle) help to jump start...... I check see the (-) screw loose tighten...

Rev rev rev for a while... let it run for about 10 mins.. rode back from Fort Rd back to SK..... today start ok liao

At 1st tot it was coil problem ( but couldnt be) , battery? Also cant b4 4mths old... .maybe rectifier. Tml will bring to shop to check. .hope everything is fine ( or rather jus the screw loose issue ) ....

Am contemplating between a V Strom 1000 and a VFR 800.

Wanna tour more, rugged roads, maybe once every 3 touring.

Does V-strom tours well? Is the price difference huge?

Any advice.

V-twin vs V4.. .Vibs are not far off...But totally diff from In-line.. Need high rev

the dl650 is commonly known as wee in europe and usa. just to distinguish from the dl1000 as vee.

 

hav you checked out the price for vfr? it's exorbitant. cant really compare in price. if money is no issue, go for vfr. if not, vstrom is more than capable of long distance touring, 2 ups.

...... its the STATOR COIL.....

I after i crank up the bike with help of car "sambong wire"

Then i realise my (-) screw loose leh.. Dono if its due to vibs loosen the screw ... then end up never charge properly.

Anyway will go do a checkup this weekend for my bike.. .=_=.. hopefully nothing wrong if not siao liao

Yo strommers...couple of months back I did read up about our stator coil problem. Do you guys think it is advisable for us to change once our bike hit 3 years and above? Couple of days back, I have problem starting my bike..Panic liao...going to werk already...switch off and on again...after that can start...How much you guys think for the stator coil?

my was stationery drop....clutch assembly landed on a block of wood ....the screw crack the engine block housing ...have to replace housing :angel:

Confirmed mine was stator coil problem . Bike is 7yrs old. Had 1 pole of the coil burnt. But then was suggested to replace the rectifier too , cos who knows new and old parts doesnt get along well.

 

The Damages:

Stator coil : $354.80

Rectifier : $206.70

gasket : $12.60

Labour : $20 ONLY !!!

 

all price are not inclusive of GST .

 

Trust me ... I find that Guan Hoe charge reasonably low , $20 labour to replace coil and troubleshoot . Where to get ... its not that easy to change both coil and rectifier , almost all left side parts got to be remove.

Some more got warranty .

Err i only saw 1 strom...but got 2 person owns up...lols...My bike was there but i walked to biketech...when coming back i saw a vstrom moving off...silver colour, headlight fit with the headlight grill..seem like after market pipe...NICE!!! so who is it haha...
