Haha. To the market. If everyone has a choice, they would choose 1 car, 1 luxury bike and 1 laoya bike.

Agree. Unfortunately I don't have that kinda money, so even for a weekend bike, I gotta choose wisely. Wanna get something I can keep for long. Still looking around.. :thumb:

Hi guys! Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been reading the posts on this forum (lurking only sounds marginally better than stalking) and I'm currently taking my Class 2 (got my test booked for Oct). I'm planning to sell my car and go back to a bike and I'm looking at getting the 650 Wee-Strom for touring (black/gray!). Never been touring before but I'm itching to get started.

So right now I'm hoping the old birds will be kind enough to help me out with some advice. My plan is to get a Wee from Looi's and start outfitting it in preparation for touring. I'd like to get your views on what I should get first to prioritise. I'm thinking crash bars/engine guards, H&B panniers and belly pan for a start while I run the bike in. So could use some input from you guys.

1. How'd you run in your bikes? Does the "keep it under 80 for the first 1000" still apply or just whack? Any problems/advice when running in?

2. What are the pros and cons of having the H&B plastic cases vs the aluminum ones? I'm thinking the aluminum ones are easier to store items since the shapes are more regular but which ones are more durable? Don't wanna pay and have it collapse in on itself if/when I fall (touchwood!). Any idea which ones are heavier?

3. I'm planning on keeping the bike pretty much stock since I favour fuel efficiency over performance. I don't plan on racing any time soon so just enough power for normal overtaking is all I really need (my colleagues always make fun of me for being a bit too safe when driving ...:shy:). Are there any items on the market that can help enhance fuel efficiency? Was reading some posts about certain sparkplugs some time back but don't quite follow (the extent of my mechanical knowledge is only good for Legos ... :slapforehead:. ).

4. Is it worth it to get a brand new bike or get a second-hand Wee? My last bike was a Super 4 so no road experience with big bikes. It's NICE to have a new bike but I also want to think long-term. Your views on this? How hard is it to find a second-hand Wee anyway? Don't see many of them on the road nowadays.

5. Any other views/input/suggestions/advice?

Apreciate your advice on this!

hi yan,

e wee is a great bike with great fuel efficency.

it will be a great choice for u.

to answer sum of ya qns,

1- never had a brand new bike. so cant really answer based on opnions. but there are countless of debates between soft and hard running in which u can find off e net.

2 from wat i know both boxes are durable. one is taller but slimmer and the plastic ones are wider and shorter. it depends maybe on what do you intend to put it most of the times and personal take on the outlook.

3. the wee strom stock mileage is fantastic enough. close to 500 km for the full tank if im not mistaken. other than that u might wanna change to iridium spark. will gives u slightly better fuel consumption if im nt wrong. but the best mod you can do is to train ur wrist not to whack the throttle . hahaha

4. there is a used 650 in the classified/bikemart recently. not sure whether its still on sale. and most of the time is u wanna get the wee, you gotta buy first hand cos there isnt alot in the second hand market.

5. go with ur heart and u wont regret. do update us on ur bikeshopping.

cya on theroad soon!

Come original, u gotta come original...

looking for 2nd hand vstrom650

any shops to look into? have a friend who is keen on getting this bike..

thanks.

Hey bro... check out the bike mart... Might still be available...

Hi Yan_kit...

I think u will never goes wrong with a Wee...

I can only answer ur no 2 and 3 question...

2.Plastic vs Alu...

Plastic is much2 cheaper than alu...

Advantages of Alu is top opening...easier to organize ur items compare to side opening plastic boxes...(though my GIVI e41 offer both top and side opening :thumb:) In event of crash...Alu box usually can be repair...but not plastic...

Looks...ALu much2 more nicer...

But then again this is from my personal point of view...

3.FC

Have u ever heard of Broquet? u might want to consider that...yet to use on my Vee though....use it on my previous bike and it does increase my mileage by a little KM... but then again u are choosing a Wee...Its mileage is good enuff already for a class 2 bike...

I never knew about V Strom in my life..The bike is so rare that when some ppl saw it, they mistaken it for Beemers. I always wanted to get AT but the price/age of bike with no power makes me dishearten with it, until I was recommended by someone. At lest you knew about the V Strom even before you get class 2.Never look back since.

1. How'd you run in your bikes? Does the "keep it under 80 for the first 1000" still apply or just whack? Any problems/advice when running in?

Some ppl are holy..... If you buy your're first hand, there's the manual to refer to.... For me, I ride at 5 rpm (80-100km/h)

Mentioned by others as above for aluminium case. For me, my ride is 90% with pilion on SG. As such, I need to have spare helmet. So far, if I correct only the plastic hepco/givi can fit it 2 helmet (OF). For aluminium you can't fit both OF into the box. Don't be FOOL by Hepco Plastic model. They have 2 layers compare to Givi 1 layer and is quite strong. So for top box, I choose practical over style so I I choose Hepco Junior 45, with top rack. I do however am thinking of getting alu case for the side rack in the near future. The opening is at the top compare to plastic model.

3. I'm planning on keeping the bike pretty much stock since I favour fuel efficiency over performance. I don't plan on racing any time soon so just enough power for normal overtaking is all I really need (my colleagues always make fun of me for being a bit too safe when driving ...:shy:). Was reading some posts about certain sparkplugs some time back but don't quite follow (the extent of my mechanical knowledge is only good for Legos ... :slapforehead:. ).

The wee is one of the bike with good mileage.Others are such as F800GS. For my setup, Handguard,Mainstand,Crashbar,LightGrille,Topbox, on average I'm hitting 450 with 1-3 litres of petrol left. Wat more can you ask?? Of course if I remember there are the seniors who hit more than me. Your weight and your hand throttle plays apart too.

Ask around and ppl will say 1st hand item will always be more shiok feeling than 2nd hand item. The BEST advice is I think if you have enough money go for 1st hand. It's not that the 2nd hand Wee is not good, no offense. Just expressing my pure excitement feelings. Hahaha.Really I been wondering how many Vee/Wee are in Singapore. I guess no one knows for sure because most V storms owners are working shifts and hard to do gathering. Hahaha

5. Any other views/input/suggestions/advice?

Good luck in your seach. Whatever bike it is, just enjoy the ride and keep your options open!
