the highlighted phrase is important. not every buyer gets a dollar to dollar rebate. take me for an example. the car i paid for includes a $10k COE. so by right, if COE is $2, i should pay less $9,998.

 

but the package is as such: my rebate level is capped at $9k. which means the maximum dealer will rebate me is $9k. you might ask, den how about the $998? the dealer pockets it.

 

however, this is not always the case because some dealers offer $0 rebate, $3k rebate, $7k rebate and so on. if you buy your car from a dealer that offers $0 rebate, it is as good as paying $10k for a $2 COE.

 

When I bought my Peugeot 207 from Autofrance in May2007, My COE was bidded in Feb and it was priced 5.2K. My rebate was 10K and for every reduced amount, I will enjoy a dollar to dollar rebate. In the end I bought the car at $10K below the market price with exactly the same specs when it was formally introduced in July the same year. When I switched to the Germans this year with VW SGP, I was also offered a dollar to dollar rebate but alas the COE turned out to be more than my rebate of 12K

 

That means if I've bidded the $2 COE, I could've gotten a rebate of $11998 off my car price.

 

So you're trying to say that the dollar to dollar rebate is not applicable to everywhere? And if that's the case, a lower COE will not be of any use at all.

of course. different dealers offer different rebates. im happy that my rebate was at $9k. :angel:

 

my fren who bought his 2008 fit from a PI dealer also got the $2 COE but his rebate was just $7k. not too bad considering there are rebate offers much less than $7k.

No more regrets.

Cherry QQ is selling at $22,999 normal plate (from Vertax Automobile), you take away $17,500 gives you $5499 for a weekend plate. It is about the OMV of that car.

 

I wonder if the tax oand COE of the car is higher than $17,500, what will happen, the govt refund us cash??? OR fre rd tax for the next 10 years?

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

i think the lowest you can have the car is down to the OMV....

You cant except the gov buys you car, right...Even with OPC....

If our really buys each of us a car...I wonder we have to give how many cars back to them....

The gov always use our own money to give us money....And squeeze more form us..

if i'm not wrong.. why ppl say when selling cars with low COE, you will suffer because the loan you took was the full COE one. but the car with COE is much lower, in this case $10k.

the cash rebate will be given by your SE, but ultimately when you wanna sell you car, you will be quoted low fo its low COE, but your loan still will have outstanding $10k. if you depreciation break even..

 

example:

Car A sells at $100k for $10k COE.

Buyer do full loan at $102k for 1bid guaranteed, rebate $2k

Loan aprroved at $102k but COE drops to $2.

SE rebates buyer $9998.

Buyer collects car and rebate happily.

 

Car at day0 = Valued at $102k instead of $92K because of the rebate.

 

Correct me if i am wrong..

5499 . if opt for CNG ? -$5000 right ? den only $499 for the car?

A good example for car forum....I not sure people are still worried about scrap value when they save 10k upfront..Just add 10k you saved and mind you without interests to the so called scrap value, then you have the good deal...Simple as that..

 

Fact 1: ALL 2nd hand dealers are very clever, they will only buy your car at paper value (Govt PARF rebate + Govt COE refund) plus a small sum for the car body

 

Fact 2: Govt PARF rebate is the same for any car with the same OMV value (at the same age)

 

Fact 3: Govt COE refund is simple maths. your COE is for 10 yrs - every year you lose 10% of the amount you paid. (eg. at the 5th yr, you get back 50%. at the end of 10 yrs, you get 0%)

 

Fact 4: (IMPORTANT): New Car Seller reserves the right to register your car with open category COE (Go read your price list/sales contract)

 

Here is the maths

 

Buyer 1 = bought car in Nov 2008 bid 1 for $60,000

 

Toyota Altis OMV $16,000

COE $10,455

 

When he sell his car in year 5, he gets:

OMV x 70% = $11,200

COE x 50% = $5,228

Body = assume $3,000

TOTAL = $19,428

Money Lost = $60,000 - $19,428 = $40,572

 

Buyer 2 = bought car in Nov 2008 bid 2 for $50,002 (assume got COE rebate at $10,000)

 

Toyota Altis OMV $16,000

COE $2

 

When he sell his car in year 5, he gets:

OMV x 70% = $11,200

COE x 50% = $1

Body = assume $3,000

TOTAL = $14,201

Money Lost = $50,002 - $14,201 = $35,801

 

Buyer 2 loses $4,771 less than Buyer 1. Not mentioning the 10k liquid he/she has in the bank....This is basically due to the cheaper COE he got.

 

Conclusion: Lower COE is better. You pay less upfront, pay less interest & lose less money

 

But those with open cat ones are screwed if they decided to scrap the >1.6l car....Cos their COE are tied to the $2 cat A COE....Let not go into full loan and rebates etc...Those with full loan are even more screwed.....Put it this way....Your car value>Annual pay or even 2x of you annual pay...You cant afford it....If die die wants it....And with full loan, no sugar daddy/mummy support....Pray hard you can keep your job.....
