Perhaps newer riders and less financially inclined will get more discerning and start to look at the proper abilities of a bike instead of an advertised image. Riding passion should also mean doing something with less means.

So COE unexpectedly shoot up. I'm guessing this is because buyers already book the bikes before the ARF announcement so dealers rush to secure the COE to close the deals.

We will see a drop in the next COE, perhaps below 6.4K

I am not trying to be a wet blanket, but I'm just very skeptical about the effectiveness of such petition. So what if we can obtain thousands signing this petition? Is this a legit or proper channel to voice? Is there a recognisable organisation behind this movement, e.g. Singapore Motorcycle Trade Association? I really doubt anything will change with such e-petition approach. There is no clear leadership or organisation. There is no plan to start dialogue with government agency led by a community leader, industry representatives, etc. Hence, there is minimum (or zero) pressure to change.

Let's be real. We can make all the noise that we want on these virtual platforms and I'm sure nothing will happen.

A formal organisation needs to come forward to lead this movement with strong numbers/facts to discuss with the government on the implication and consequences of this policy. Dealers and industry reps need to add pressure to government agencies by asking for more assistance, as their business is significantly affected (assuming they are). On the other hand, this shall take time for negotiation and change to implement. Sorry if all this sounds like a real bad news to you.... this policy will be here to stay (for a while) and we can only hope that COE really stablise to a lower price to offset some Japanese Class 2 bikes' ARF....

u r right definitely... U can get even more "signatures" against the water increase and there will be no U Turn fm them.

My fren said... count our blessings that we have enjoyed "low ARF" for 4 years compared to cars which had their tiered ARF in 2013.

And there are still 2nd hand bikes which have not increased in price yet. Time to grab them before market has fully adjusted.

Heya,

We're submitting it to the Public Petitions Committee of Singapore so they can order a review of the ARF. It's an official part of Parliament. You can find out more here: https://www.parliament.gov.sg/public-petitions-committee

Ok, let me put it to you in this way: If you buy TOTO, you stand a chance to become a millionaire. No matter how slim the chance, it still exists. If you sign this petition, there's also a chance that the government will re-assess the ARF scheme. If no petitions are submitted at all, the chances of the ARF being re-assessed is effectively 0%.

So how? Signing this petition is free. TOTO still got to pay money :p

Sign it now at http://www.saynoto100ARF.info !

Btw, don't expect any association or industry rep to stand up for us. If we as riders don't stand up for ourselves, no one else will bother.

i hope my dream comes true. in singapore, we actually dont need high powered, big cc bikes. just your average 600cc to 800c is suffice. even going malaysia, we cant really speed. 110km/hr. if bm, hd , and all the bikes companies want their singapore market, they should downsize their bikes. make a mini version of the GSA. 800cc using the same engine for their 800cc bikes BUT with the same shape and shaft drive but of course slightly lower and lighter.

honda also can follow suit. making a bronzewing ---- exactly like their goldwing but 750cc to 800cc with shaft drive. it has been done before in the 80s and 70s

anyway, just a dream because YOU KNOW WHO will wake me up from that dream because they will say, oh no because now you order so many of these 700cc bikes, it has now become a luxury item and many people are bidding for the coe. and guess what . we will introduce a PARF like cars.

so its a vicious cycle until something snaps

Did u just say "average 600 - 800 cc"? They are not average at all.

May 2005 - July 2007: Honda Phantom TA200 (FU 3*** S)

July 2007 - Dec 2016: Honda CB400 Spec III (FBB 7***X)

Dec 2016 - Aug 2017: Yamaha FZ1N (FBD 4***E)

Aug 2017 - Present: Kawasaki Z1000SX (FBF 6***B)

Its the new "average" bro...

In 10 years, class 2b bikes have dropped by 11% while class 2 bikes have more than doubled, increased by 115%

https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltaweb/corp/PublicationsResearch/files/FactsandFigures/MVP01-7_MC_by_cc.pdf

Someone in LTA also saw the pattern that's y we now have to pay higher ARF for bigger bikes.

Interesting to note is that for that 10 year or 11 year period from 2006 to 2016, the total bike population grew by 0.4% (yes, less than 1%) while car population was allowed to grow by 27%.

So the decline motorcycle population is less important than the minuscule increase in class 2 which attract the bulk of the punitive action. Same as the saying in my signature...

If we account in foreign bikes on the road, maybe the increases are the same.

Don't want to be a wet blanket guys but loosening of measures like this is harder than loosening up Property Cooling Measures. They recently tweaked this for SSD and TDSR.

Government here rules like an iron fist so we only have one choice. Save up and buy the one bike that you really really really like. Pain one time and ride for long. There is no choice unless you give up riding coz the lower cc bikes ain't going to cut it for most people due to specifications and designs by bike brands. You only get the best spec if you have a higher cc bike, thats how it works!

On the bright side, if you really went in to buy a BIG bike now ala 2017 model, you will own a very exclusive model which you will seldom bump into coz there is only so few who can afford now. There is bigger bragging rights now. You gave up a small car to ride a big cc bike. Its a lifestyle choice!

So work harder is the cue for me. I do not think big cc bikes will ever go away in a big way coz I know those bigger bikes are very often bought by folks who can afford cars (they often have one or even 2) and just want a 2 wheeler lifestyle. When I visit HD showroom, I met lawyers and another accountant biz owner which I am sure they will scream too but still carry on this lifestyle.

It is lower income folks like me who aspire bigger bikes to dream longer down the road but we will get there one day! When I am not sure...but its not impossible!

All the best guys! See you on day on the road.
