Coastal Road back to SG

Hi Ninjapura, a few points to take note for the Gerik trip:-

1. Ipoh is close to 600km from GP. Looking at your ride plan, after breakfast at Yong Peng, you will still have about 400km++ more to go. The arrival time at Ipoh will probably be after lunch / mid afternoon rather than 11am. You may wana ride to Ipoh for late lunch or break somewhere in the middle of the journey for a light lunch.

2. Gerik stretch is rather mountainous and it is not a good idea to catch in the rain under that kind of road - lots of rain water and bad visibility. Check out the weather just setting off for your trip. Try to clear Gerik in good weather and not too late. The stretch before Gerik - Baling is quite fun to play. But do go light with the throttle and ride carefully once into Gerik.

3. For those going for the trip, do have a proper pre-ride check and servicing. Do ensure that your brakes are working properly. Have the brakes / brake pads / brake fluid / coolant / fork seal / engine oil / chain check and replace if necessary before the trip. Service the bike at least one month ahead of ride so that any problem after servicing, there is still plenty of time to get it rectify and test. The bike must be in good condition. It's costly and troublesome to tow the bike back from North Malaysia back to Singapore. Most importantly, any breakdown is gonna spoil the fun and delay the ride.

4. For those chain driven bikes, do bring adequate chain lub along. You may wana share a bottle among 2~3 bikers. Lube the chain the night before the trip. And check your chain in-between petrol stops. Lube the chain as necessary.

5. Riding gears. Get a decent helmet, an armour riding jacket and preferbly riding pants. It will cost a bit to invest in the riding gears. Start with the riding jacket if there is concern on budget.

6. For long rides do drink sufficient water to replenish your body during petrol stops. As the body loses water and salt through perspiration, one will feel giddy and get muscle cramp easily. Drinking isotonic drinks can help to a certain extend.

Have fun and looking forwards to the update of your trip.
