bro, a rusty chain is a sign for you to change it. do not risk it by riding with a rusty chain.

once you get a new set of chain, lube it with a good chain lube once a week. also try to clean your chain whenever you wash your bike. these will minimise future rusting.

Rusty chain : ITS A NO NO thing!

Whether you are long time or newbies riders.

Don't risk it ! Its your life ! Get it change !

Maintenance : ITS A MUST !

Directions : leave it to individual style/taste

Got a good tip!

Drip a capfull of 4t oil on the inner part of your chain. Do this every time you ride for about 3 times.

Chain will be clean and splatter all the dirt on your rims or swingarm. Very easy to remove with some water and detergent. However, do oil with a good chain lubricant after which because 4t do not stay on the chain for long( I use 2t)

Try it out and let me know!

chains will rust ..if you leave bike in the open ..it will be even worse if you cover the bike with a bike cover..

the condesation from the trap moisiture will constantly provide a condition to promote rust under that cover.

solutions..

an oiler will most probably solve your problem..as it lube your bike on evry ride...so your chains are always well lubed and in good conditions..

this will minimise the possibility of rusting..especially after rain..or riding on wet roads.

this is even more so who dont ride often...as every time you takethe bike for a ride.......ahh

i just put some 4t oil on the expose portion of the chian after every long ride since i can't rotate the wheel. take me 20sec. chain is very clean and relatively rust free. i don't find the need to clean. didn't bother use spary chain lube since the cost of some better brand chain lube is enough for me to change the chain.

can 4t use as chain lube ? cos find that chain lube in spray can is very sticky ...

stick all the dirt on the chain ....

what is a lubticant??..the simplest definitionis is A substance, such as grease or oil, that reduces friction when applied as a surface coating to moving parts..

so all oils and grease are lubricants...

4t definitely falls into this category..

in practice the application and stress bearing capability of the lubricant are important criterias...ie the streses in the sliding/moving parts will

demand certain lube properties...

eg...is water a lubricant?? if you can apply water in sufficient qty continuosly on your chains i am not surprise it will wprk barring othr side effects like rusting ...etc.

so on our bikes if you are able to apply lube regularly..continuosly eg.. 4t will just work fine,,,the qty per unit time you have to figure out..

the other benefits are many...like clean chains and your chains in tip top conditions ALL THE TIME////in this respect chain oilers are the pefect solution to a tricky issues with chain lubing..

anyone want mote informations contact me..EZZYOILER..FOR DISCUSSIONS.

Like wat ezzyoiler has suggested, get a auto oiler like wat his selling or scottoiler. upfront theres a cost but it is very worth it.

My 2a bike was s4. No scottoiler. After rain next day must lube. Else rust will come fast. If rust come and u dun lube, e rust will be able to bite into e chain easier and it will e tough to remove. And if u lazy to lube, high chance u wont take e effort to de rust. Get ready to change chain regardless of how new it is.

Now change bike, got scottoiler. No need to think or bother anymore. Rain no rain no difference. Just check monthly tat e oiler container has oil can le. In fact a full container i suspect last more than 3 mths. Since e last time i top up 3 weeks ago, now e level only reduce by

If u maintain chain well e life will extend. i cant give any figures but if u go scottoiler website, they ve a figure but dunno how they test.

E scottoiler helps to remove e rust too. Assuming night rain, morning when go bike will c e rust. If i touch it, it can be wipe off type. So at this point i should lube chain. Now no need, e scottoiler will drip oil and chain sprocket action will de rust e chain. Reach my destination with a clean chain.

And becoz scottoiler only drips e oil around 1 drop a minute (its a setting) so it is only a very thin layer of oil on e chain. And as i ride, e layer of oil will keep getting a fresh layer of oil. This way e road dirt and stuff wont stick on e chain like my oil bike. :)

So i am convince and will always install a oiler in future bikes. ^^

Most bike manuals recommend SAE 90 weight gear oil to be used a chain lube. 4t is too thin unless used as scott oiler. My recommendation is buy a chain lube like Maxima which cost about 10$ at mustafa. 1 bottle lasts for couple of years so its not really that expensive. Its the chain wax that is sticky and attracts dirt so dont buy chain wax just buy chain lube.

Well, this is a chain cleaning thread after all. Some people still want to get down and dirty to clean chain, a good thing though. Chain cleaning is never a history even with automatic oilers, simply due to to the fact that grime can accumulate. Lubing and cleaning are 2 different things after all.

I have a Scottoiler installed on my chain which does the daily lubing but I do chain cleaning each time I wash my bike, took me bout 15mins with a bottle of kerosene, toothbrush and a easy-stand (a regretted purchase) with a rag to clean the surface grime and remove excess kerosene.

Well, I don't really trust all these stands or whatsoever other than a paddock stand, it provides the most reliable way to prop up the rear without much hassle for chain cleaning and washing. Except that it is pretty big and bulky but not too heavy, then again where else do you wash your bike yourself other than the wash bay or parking lot near your house?

After washing, cleaning and drying, I lube the chain with the Dupont Chain Saver and let it dry for bout half an hour while I'm doing my polishing. A great buy indeed, especially from the review by webBikeWorld.com

4T is alright. in fact as long as u wipe off the excess n let it sit for at least a few hours b4 u ride off, not much fling. even if have, its easy to clean up. unlike chain lube which sticks to the rim n tough to scrub off.

i used to use Maxima. The MAXIMA CHAIN WAX was a little sticky, but a very good lube. my chain lasted a long time. however, it does have sum build-up in the front sprocket sumtyms, so nd to clean often, say every 2-3 weeks. the MAXIMA CHAIN GUARD on the other hand sprays as foam and a little more liquidish. basically less buildup, but doesnt stick on as long, so nd to lube more often. but both are equally quality products.

wats wrong wif the easy stand? looks like a good product in the videos. unfortunately, i cant use it on my phantom, so i use a 2-ton hydraulic jack. heavy n bulky, but its solid and stable once my bike is propped up. even use it wen i nd to remove my rear wheel.

i agree kerosene is a good degreaser. i've tried diesel b4, but the residue is a little harder to remove compared to kerosene. and if u clean often enough, u dun even nd to use toothbrush. douse the chain wif kerosene n wipe wif rag is gd enuf.

the dupont product is really good. love its clean properties. but the problem is supply. no one is bringing in anymore sadly. have to start looking for alternatives.

saw this online: http://tri-flow.blogspot.sg/ maybe someone can try it out. its mainly targetted for bicycle chains, but i saw on youtube that its suitable for motorcycle chains as well. they have degreasers and lubricants as well.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

thosewho like manual chain cleanin..kudos to thm...

As for ezzyoiler chain cleaning is history..by ezzyoiler standard..not sure yours.

....sxottie??? well thats another story altogether.

i have seen many bikes with scottie...chain rollers are shining...but tak a hard look at the chain plates/links..most have a black and greasy(disintergrated?) lube? on it.where the rollers and plates meet...well this stuff is going to pick up road grimes..

but a ezzyoiler...all the gunk is gone or minimal......ie cannot see it

Isnt ezyoiler just another type of auto oil dispenser? Scottoiler also is just a tool to dispense oil auto onto chain.

Thus if scottoiler ve e issue, ezyoiler also ve? Maybe is e choice of oil ba.

you are acsolutely correct..

the choice of lube is important...

cxootie oil is expesive...last infor is that the scott oil is $

$36/L...maybe the anser is here...oil properties and the cost results in many sxootie users adjusting the oiler at minimum flow..

end up minimal cleaning of chains ...those are the main 2 reasons why sxootie still have gunk at those mentioned areas...

talk to any ezzyoiler users...lub is $3/L...lube as per instruction....and chains clean itself...

chain cleaning is not neccessary...by ezzyoiler std...a minute of wiping occasionally..with tissue paper is good enough to clean up the swing arm and sprocket disc nicely...imho....

scottie users ...dose more oil...your chains maybe just as clean...but sctt oil properties in chain cleaning is not s good a ezzyoiler reccommende $3/Llube...the cost of scott oil is most probably the reason why most end up with minimal drip rate...imho

CAUTION....ezzyoiler recommended oil may not work too well in the sxottie....informations from some sxottie users reported...results may be an uncontrollable flow.rate.

Oh ya true. Dunno y scottoiler oil is so ex. But i using just normal lube oil. Free from shop. Tune to 1/4 rate. Chain will always be nice nice shiny. 1 full scottoiler reservoir i estimate will last 4 to 6 months? Not sure 1 bottle of scottie can top up e container how many times though.

Then again using expensive oil is just a preference. Key word here should be lubricant. Wat can lube ur chain and can dispense from ur scottie will be ok. ^^ so ya, my "scottie oil" is free.

Ps: if ur ezyoiler oil is lube and like liquid type then scottie should be able to use too. So also can $3/bottle. :)
