saw one fx xjr4 at alexander village for 8k.

one question for those people who rode the XJR400..

 

my fren juz bought 1 FW plate XJR400 recently.. seems that his bike can only go 130km/h at 6000/6500rpm and no more!!.. his throttle is pulled to the max and yet there's no power and the bike speed cannot go up anymore.. and also the rpm goes up very very slowly.. obviously something is wrong.. what's wrong with his bike?

some suggestions, not comprehensive, not exhaustive, but based on similar experience which gave me a chi ba bom when i down to gear 5 at 130km/h .....

 

1) spark plug might be wrong (wrong length, wrong temperature etc)

2) valve clearance too long nv do

 

my mech(s) suspected the 2 reasons above. hope yur fren can solve it asap, get a good mech to help

I used to have this similar problem (I think) with my Virago 125. Sometimes startup the v-twin engine macham only one is running and the other is sleeping. Full throttle only 60km/h, and the pick-up is super slow...

 

Worst part, I still dun know the cause even today. The only I notice is there is a leak at the spark plug area, and my spark plug is often wet even after tuning. Suspect somewhere got leak...

 

For your case, try changing the spark plugs should help, also see if your spark plugs are wet or not when this happens...

Hi Bro,

Maybe your spec is engine cut-off model.Have you check with HL? I had my XJR400 in 1997....no problem,fuel consumption very low...full tank at 360 km.No over-heat at traffic jam. Up n down to Kukup n Malacca every two month.Never face any problem for solid 2 years. :thumb:The bike is very friendly on chain coz they r using 150/60 radial whereas S4 using 160/60 and the pull is much greater.No good for the chain.

oh yah, when i am at 6k - 6.5k rpm, my speed is only ard 100km/h. so its surprising that yur fren's can hit 130 at that rpm range

about the RPM part, well tat's wat he told me.. he might be wrong or he might be right as he was the one riding the bike.. but about the 130km/hr, tat is true becos i was riding with him ( behind him )..

Maybe 5-6k, but check up with bike shop first then come back here see can fetch a better deal or not.

I've asked ard a few bike shops like Hong Leong and Atan Motoring. Was quoted final price of $13K for XJR400, for a rider of 26yrs old 2nd party insurance. So ex! Wonder if can get cheaper still elsewhere...anyone has ideas?

 

Also was told that there's only blue and silver available. What's the usual practisc if i want say black? Will I have to wait for the next shipment, which could be as late as Mar/Apr next year? Some shops tell them they can order in...does that mean i can get it sooner then?

I am puzzled too. 6.5Krpm going at 130km/h? Unless the fella is going downslope, if not I did like to find out what he did with his bike. My 6.5Krpm is almost the same as Furby at 100km/h only nia.

 

Anyway, this post is kind of late. But I think if his friend bring his bike for some servicing, maybe do some carb tuning or what. The performance might returned. Cos mine was just the same.

 

Previously the speed was saturated at 130 - 140km/h and it cannot go anymore. Then send for carb wash and tuning and a change of chain and spocket. My bike has woken up liao. 160 - 170km/h down the 2nd Link highway no problem one.

 

Then the fuel also kind of plays a part. Difference with the Octane lvl gives the bike difference performance. Try pumping a normal grade fuel, test the performance, then change to Vpower or another fuel with higher octane lvl. You will feel bike has woken from its deep sleep ... LOL!
