the Royal Purple Max-Cycle...

Royal Purple can get them at Tanjong Plaza, 2nd floor.

Its an electrical shop, don't know the unit though.

Its the cheapest fully synthetic I think, around $17 / bottle.

You know what, after trying all these expensive synthentic, semi synthetic.

I found that after about 1500 miles (there about), my bikes feel rough.

May be its my bike lah, and I will change the oil already.

So now me using cheap mineral oil, I dont feel any difference with fully synthetic.

When it feel crap, I'll change.

What other brothers feel about this engine oil thing?????

Cheers

Further about engine oil.

My experience so far is this.

There 2 groups of engine oil.

1. Feel very smooth at the beginning, then slowly will feel rough.

2. Very rough at the beginning, then slowly will feel very smooth.

You guys experience the same thing????

personaly i think its our clutch system lah...Yamaha can give you high end top performance engines but in xjr the weakness is the clutch n gear system..our eo is a cooler too so my observation is the gear n clutch system is not soaked in oil sump properly when bike is on or ridden..you can notice this diff when you compare with suzuki bandit & s4..

they boil at eo window when on but for xjr eo is sucked out to cool the engineand left with very little to lube clutch n gear..

if u use 10w-40 smooth then rough(because it boils faster so degrade faster)better used for cold countries or track

15w40 also smooth then rough but boils slower

20w-50 used for warm country bike boils slower so rough at start n smooth later..

you nee to always warm the bikeup for 20w50 to enjoy its smoothness

Ha ha.

My other observation about engine oil is, some engine oil as you put on the mileage, its get smoother and some feel crap.

Your engine oil should disappear from the observation window when your engine is running, that means the oil is circulating.

If engine oil still there, I believe the oil passage is clogged.

My limited knowledge on this lah..

Frankly, it not easy to write as talking or discussin face to face, but let me try...

For one, do remember that our EO is only 2 litres per change, 2.5 litres when you changed your oil fliters. That is a saving in $$ if u compared to Super4 & Bandits who uses more than 2 litres. Both Super4 & Bandits uses up to 3 bottles for an oil change.

Knowing that our XJR have only ONE means of lubricating its whole engine parts as in your engine oil & cooling via AIR as you ride.

We don't have water coolant like Super4 & Bandits have, to aid cooling their engines. As most of us know, Super4 & Bandits have both WATERCOOLANT RADIATOR & also using a higher amount of EO to lubricate the engine parts & cooled the engines to our beloved XJRs.

I change my EO not according to mileage but on 'monthly or two months' basis with Motul 10w-40 as recommended by mechanics that I have known & asked. I have not changed brands since I used Motul.

My advice is, since our EO is only 2 litres, do a more frequent oil change if compared to our friends whom rides a Super4 or Bandits & not keep on riding for months to end without an change.

1. Cos, we have to. (EO change only 2 litres, so it doesnt cost alot, rite?)

2. Cos XJR have only one means of keeping the ENGINE both cooling & lubrication. (we uses oil radiator only.)

So do not wait for months to change EO.

Your next OIL change could be a overhaul if you are not careful cos XJR only have one means of lubricating its engine parts & that is done by your good grade EO.

Change your EO frequent & proper. I don't wait till "I feel the rough-EO-feel" factor to change EO.

It's your bike afterall...

If you could see that your EO is 'disappearing' from the tiny glass there & "is left with very little to lube clutch n gear", pls do go & see your fave mech immediately & have a EO change.

Between two friends, who loves to go for long, tedious runs.

One runner, X, drinks 2 bottles of water whilst S, drinks 3 bottles of water before the run...

Here is a trivia: who feel thristy first during the long, tedious run & need replenishing?
