the fuel tap only have ON, PRI and RES, no off.

Check ur carb jetting/setting, using stock carb or FCR?

isnt the horizontal position off? whats the difference between on and pri? mine is on stock carb... anyway i went to the shop... replace a small plug, forget its name.. seems to be causing a leak. will monitor another tank of fuel..

it doesnt write OFF anywhere.

horizontal should be ON then PRI is 45deg SW, REServe is vertical position.

PRI according to what a fellow DRZ rider told me, is for allowing the ptrol to flow into the carb. for use when u have trouble starting. seldom use. ( perhaps a more senior rider can explain this betteR)

and that its not good to put ur fuel postition at PRI becos it will cause the ptrol to overflow into the carb.

seems like your clutch plate gone liao. like mine before. get it check in the workshops and if require to, better change. good thing for our zee it's dry clutch, so opening it to see do not have to change engine oil.

bro, i think its like this. 9 o'clock is ON which means it uses vacuum to suck the petrol into the carb, then 3 o'clock is the reserve which u turn to when your bike wants to stop while riding. then last is the PRI at 6 o'clock where if you turn, it will have free flow of petrol like other normal bikes. so all the time are used up liao, no way you can have off switch, unless ur zee is the only zee that the switch can turn to 12 o'clock. if you can, pls arrange for a meetup cos i also want to see...........hehehehehe

There are 2 types of fuel petcocks used on the DRZ.

The vacumn operated type and the normal type.

Vacumn operated petcocks have ON, PRI and RES. ie ON-Prime-Reserve. For the fuel to flow.. the engine must be running or turning over to create a low pressure in the carb throat.. which 'sucks' the valve open allowing fuel to flow to the engine.

In the PRI position, the vacumn valve is over ridden.. fuel will flow without the engine running. You can empty out the tank completely in the PRI position.

In the RES position, the fuel petcock works like as though it is in the ON position... engine must be running for fuel to flow.

If you ride till the engine till engine quits due to fuel starvation coz your tank runs low while in the ON position, it will be hard to start the bike when you turn the tap to RES straight away and bypassing the PRI position. Only after alot of cranking will the bike start again.

You must first turn to PRI to fill up the carb bowl again ( at least 5 seconds) then to RES then start the bike again. But then again you could leave it in the PRI position will be like the ON position in the older fuel petcocks.

You can disconnect the fuel line in the ON or RES position (fuel won't flow) but not in the PRI position (fuel will flow). For the older version you need to go to OFF before disconnecting the fuel line.

then am i right to say for the older verision, ON is like Prime for the vacuum operated? and in that sense... is prime actually wasting more fuel? feeding more fuel then wad is required to the engine?

Posted

there u go J. so urs is the other type where the cock can work round the clock. hmmm....sounds strange ley that sentence. anyways, u see, until uncle raptor post 2 times to make sure you understand. i guess what you explain is acceptable and the rest as well. hahah...and you just can't wait to check huh.....anyways, it's ok la. just use the ON and RES. if you use either, you don't need to use the OFF. guess u r the lucky one to have an OFF on the cock.......n your picture, really cannot see anything except RES and FUEL...vaguely.....enjoyz....

probably the previous owner change it... duno why also. any benefits of this over the stock one?

dunno ley. according to raptor, there is 2 kinds of fuel cock but again, if yours is changed by the previous owner, then i think he's turned on with the OFF option or he has fetish of turning the fuel OFF every now and then....hahahaha.....

You have one badly jetted bike... the main jet is way too big. Some bike mechanics will just put an oversized main jet to kill the backfiring at YOUR expense... you are paying for the petrol, not them.

I only get that kind of consumption when racing in Pasir Gudang, and that's riding with the throttle wide open and at max rpms on all gears. Furthermore, its a fully modified engine with an FCR41.
