You kidding or what?

LOL

I'm curious to know why you are planning to skimp on maintenance.

No money? Hmm... Get a Honda. It'll last forever.

Or DIY.

No time? Get a Honda. Again, it can last forever, so you can skip maintenance.

In terms of engine durability, Aprilia to Honda is like paper to rock.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

platesnc,

I hate being the only DIY-er here. People think I'm a senile old geezer rambling on about jetting in a foreign language.

We need and APPRECIATE people like YOU !!! You help us SAVE money and at the same time IMPART VALUABLE knowledge to those who are clueless about this BEAUTY.:cheer:

if clutch plates are wearing off, you will experience;

-false neutrals

-bike rolling forward when clutch in and engage gear 1

-bike needs to rev higher to attain certain speed which could be reached with lower rev previously.

Thanks bro, found this information to be very useful. But possible to explain further? My technical knowledge about bikes could be better la, heheh.

If I am able to get my RS125, will sure meet up with lacrimosae, would love to learn to DIY, at least can trust yourself and not the mech, but need to have the knowledge first laaaaa~~

Blastedgirl, I was reading through this page as well, I like you ever since I saw the 2006 RS125 version wanted to own a RS125. Yes it is important to be able to financially support your RS125, like downpayment, servicing as well as monthly instalments etc. If you are able to, then buy it. And also its good that your seeking advice in this thread as who best to advise you than Aprilia riders. If this is the bike you really want then I suggest you go for it. Good luck!

Thanks brothers...

I really want to get RS125.. I am willing to get my hands dirty and learn... I dun care what ppl will say about a girl sitting down her block cleaning her baby and having her hands all dirty.. I really want to learn and do it the right way, as in learn what it takes to have a baby from scratch... instead of keep going to shop to do simple servicing....

At the same time, I dun want to say and then not have the time or money.. So I have to consider and consider... At the same time, backside damn itchy 3 weeks after I pass still havent go on the road yet.. yes I know some ppl wait even longer than me...

Anyone know who's selling 03 to 05 models, whose bike is well maintained? Pls pls recommend.. I hope to grab in 3 weeks time...

I also intend to learn and go track...

Blastedgirl, I waited also approx 3 weeks then got my bike. I know Mah Motor selling 05 model first hand. Around 8k machine price. Maybe you tell m e your budget and if I see one I let you know?

Honestly, for downpayment, I can only afford max $1500... More than that I have to outsource, which I will try my best not to, just not myself to borrow $ off from anyone...

It was my own fault also for trusting myself to stay patient and not save... My initial intention was to get my bike in October, by which I can afford to fork out at least $2K...

I salute you not borrowing cash from other people because I also trying to do that also! I think for your case you might have to do reloan because I doubt got any 2003-2005 RS125 going for that amount of cash. But your able to pay off instalments as well as regular servicings for your bike right or worse come to worse *touch wood* require overhaul. I will be heading down to Speedway courtesy of Lycan telling me there got 06/07 RS125 there tomorrow to check out the price and condition. Heard there got alot of bike shop. Maybe will look around for you to see how much the 03-05 models going for and how much need to downpay.

Posted

put all your savings for downpay. left with no more savings for emergency. lets say *touch-wood* self-skid or piston jam. leave bike in workshop, save for 3mths then repair? really gotta think hard before getting a Aprilia, but if you can really afford to shower it with money and TLC, this wonder machine will really give you endless fun man.

Servicing simply means changing oils, replacing parts that need replacing, and monitoring of parts for wear. In my books, servicing is a few simple things as listed below.

It encompasses, but not necessarily needs to include all of the following:

- checking / changing of spark plug

- checking / cleaning of valve

- checking for wear / replacing of consumable items:

- chain and sprockets

- tires

- brake pads

- clutch plates / pressure plate

- clutch cable

- throttle cable

- valve cable

- replacing of gear oil

- checking levels / replacing of brake fluid

- cleaning of carburetor

- degreasing & oiling of moving parts, components in tension and under pressure

- checking of piston rings for wear and disintegration

- checking of piston for signs of wear (blow-by, or uneven carbon build-up)

- replacing piston and/or piston rings if necessary

- checking all lights (signal, headlamps, brake light)

Of course, workshop mechanics don't follow this check-list. This is my own check-list. Compiled with common sense and executed with love. Both of which those workshop mechanics don't possess.

No offence to those who claim are willing to get their hands dirty to DIY, but I've heard that claim too often. 9 out of 10 who claim to be interested never have actually showed up for DIYs. Excuses range from lack of company, to lack of directions. ("No one else going, so don't feel like going"; "don't know how to get there")

If you don't wanna come, don't have to come. You're not obligated to. Don't make it sound like you want to come but can't. I conduct my DIYs because I love my bike, not because I have the intention to teach. The invitation is for those interested to learn something. Of course, if you show up and ask nicely enough, you just might be able to learn something.

So forgive me if I do scoff at the "I wanna get my hands dirty DIY-ing" comments. :cheeky:

Seriously, everyone's better off riding Honda's. LOL :p

to mjdod, certain shops in charge a early settlement fee , so you might face problems when u wanna sell . Rs125 is a 2B bike and unless u intend to keep it longer than ur loan period , then it wun be any problem. An extra admin/early settlement fee of 500-800 penalty makes its very hard when u wanna sell it off eg in 1-2 yrs time
