to guys who are using airbox with their 34mm carb, or have experienced switching from open pod to airbox and vice versa, i recently fixed my airbox back. What im noticing is that my bottom end has become waay much leaner and my midrange has gotten richer. Is this normal? i understand about the bike running richer on the whole due to the restricted air intake. but i dun get why the bottom end is lean. was running a 36 pilot on the open pod with no problems, but on 38 right now and its too lean.

Update : Solved my problem already guys. Took off the snorkel on top of the airbox and voila, the bike ran like a beauty again. Its the perfect compromise. Theres low end power coz of the airbox, but theres also better top end nw (slightly less power than on open pod), compared to when the snorkel was on. Previously it would sputter like mad at ard 8k rpm juz before the valve opens. Nw its fine! AND the best part. I GOT BACK MY NICE BASSY SOUND. WOOOHOOO.

Man, firstly thx to all those whom feedback my dead battery.

Yes indeed I don't know how to disassemble and assemble it so I result in towing. Mechanic said wet cell sucks and changed to dry for me at $65 T.T

Hope I could learn some diy from you guys as this baby will follow me for years :)

But I failed to attend due to work ( marine engineering ), unstable worktimes. Argh.

I do shift work too! I understand your pain... If you're really keen, PM me the dates that you will be in SG and I will try to set up a small DIY session for you.

Now that you are running the same set up as me, would the power delivery and pick up be the same? :D

Do you understand now why I stick to the airbox? You get the best of both worlds! Low end smooth power delivery for easy city riding, then a solid mid-range, and when you hit the top end, the sound of the single piston singing at its optimum pitch is like having an eargasm...

Correct me if im wrong, but the valve opens at 8100

That is correct. :)

Those older bikes whose valve CDI is programmed to open the valve at 7,900 rpm has the numbers '7900' printed on them.

The newer bikes has valve CDI's with '8100' printed on them, indicating that they operate at 8,100 rpm.

Why you guys cant move your bikes out of the west is it? Then might as well dont ride. Just take a stroll and meet each other in the park. :)

Haha don't get us wrong sub, we have impromptu meets sometimes and it's hard to arrange it with everyone's schedule in such a scenario. We do go far but sometimes we just meet up for coffee - partially due to the tight schedules some have for work e.g. AOEM who knocks off work at 9pm and has a morning shift the next day, in fact many of us(them) are turning up for the Friday meetup.

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.

Sup everyone, yest night when i reached home, i realised something was sticking out of my exhaust pipe, tried pulling wouldnt budge, yanked it out, it appeared to be some metallic coil. Does any one have any idea what it is? like is it supposed to be part of the end can that miraculously got disloged or is it a foreign object. It sort of looks like a "9" with the circle part lodged in the end can and the tail sticking out.

my tunings not perfect yet, but its around the region. Just need a little bit of fine tuning, probably gona change my atomiser to DP262 and down my jet to a 152.But i gotta say, im loving the airbox. But im glad i tried out the open pod first as well coz now i have the personal experience for both types of air intakes.

I was so close to taking out the airbox though, luckily i tried taking off the top snorkel. It really help alot man. Btw lawrence, u still have that quick release tank bolt. At the rate ive been opening my bike the bolts gona go soon. my made in china allen key is already gone. had to saw off the spoilt bit. lol.

There are a couple of schools of thought for this.

1) Some CDIs/ECUs are designed to be self learning. Any change to the intake configuration may upset the CDI/ECU's running specification, and cause it to alter the sparking characteristics.

2) A sudden swap from a pod filter to an airbox could make the intake temperature colder due to the insulation, and hence, resulting in a leaner air-fuel ratio. Having a pod filter does NOT necessarily mean that your air intake capacity increases. It just means that your engine has the ability to breathe with lesser restriction as compared to an airbox. Air intake capacity is actually determined by the amount of vacuum your engine creates while running. Also related to compression. If you are actually looking for greater intake capacity, go for forced induction (turbos or air-chargers).

3) You may have an air-flow sensor on board. The CDI/ECU relies on the sensor feedback to determine the sparking strength.

Here are just some reasons why you may be experiencing this..

Beneath this mask, there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask, there is an idea, and ideas, are bulletproof - V

How bout we ride to the West after dinner at East Coast on 20 Mar? You west side boys can show us around your neighbourhood.

Someone stuck something up your pipe? hahahahaha... Pardon the innuendo. There are many jealous bikers out there who cannot tahan our gorgeous rides. Some of us get our seats burnt by cigarette stubs, fairing screws stolen, fairings scratches, bikes pushed over etc...

its not the bikes dun leave the west side....like wat dDtim said....we are trying to get to know one another and if in case any from the west has probs we know who to seek..... and yeah.... if i do organise bike wash session .... like i do with my colleagues.... will the guys from east come all the way down to west.... just to wash bike???? hmmmm am not taking territorial headship but now on the urgency accessibility and readiness of Rs riders wen the need arises.... i m no RS God but i am a learning as well..... brain works like a MACHINE....a two stroke one in fact.....

Ok we'll try to be fair to everyone and organise gatherings in the west. But you guys must have nice locations in mind where we can go hang out afterwards, with open parking for a large number of bikes.

I guess there are some things we need to experience ourselves to know. I realised I couldn't help you understand the differences btw the 2 intakes just by explaining so it was better for you to try them out for yourself.

I still have plenty of the tank quick release screw and clips available.

Here are just some reasons why you may be experiencing this..

Our CDI's should have fixed programming on a cheap PCB.

I concur with the cooler still air giving plenty more expansive power during combustion, leaning out the mixture theory.

Air flow speeds and volume has to be tested by flow bench testing but Seraph is right about it being completely dependent on the vacuum at the venturi in the carb.

We don't have air flow sensor on board. This is the first time I've heard of it. heh heh... Stop talking 4-wheelers! Smack your head then you know.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.
