PHEW. after 5 long hours i finally managed to get everything out. Seems like theres more damage than i expected to the lower half of the barrel. I posted a similar question over at tjtuning forums and based on the response there, apparently barbaric methods such as sanding down the scratches myself would suffice. But of course, im gona bring my barrel over to a workshop and get them to polish it for me. Also checked out my crank and thankfully its still perfect.

I hafta say, the RS is a Bi**H to dismantle. Given that its a race bike, i am quite appalled at the difficulty to remove a simple thing like the barrel. On the Nsr SP, i stripped the whole top and bottom engine(including taking out all the bearings and gears) AND the rest of the bike(leaving just the bare frame) in one night. I have so far spent at least 10hours on the bike just to get my top off. That said, the process would have been much simpler if i had removed the whole engine, but its not a practical option for me.

Will post up pics of the barrel later. Wayy to tired now.

In a nutshell, things i have to do to my bike now :

1)New piston,rings, etc

2)Gaskets

3)Polish my barrel

4)New coolant

If things go well i hope to get the bike running by the end of the month =)

Im having a huge dilemma right now. I dont know if i should get a new barrel(around $800) plus new piston(around $200) or if i should get the BBK since it costs only $730 and it includes everything i need for a top end rebuild. Arghh

My opinion is, if you are not going to track, it's better to get the BBK as it has more low to mid end torque and makes city traveling easier which is crucial in Singapore as we have too many traffic light.

how much do you charge for the installation of the bbk, incl coolant and the small end bearing? gasket all is included in the 730 right? nd to decide if its worth it to break my back for a couple of hours to install the kit. Btw is this the bbk u got off xczxczxcz?

btw an update on my bike, taking my cylinder to my buddy tonight and do some polishing of the cyinder wall and some porting. Actually he suggested the porting idea for quite some time to me, but i was reluctant coz i was running a brand new bike and didnt wana take out the cylinder. But since i already got the cylinder out, might as well try it out. Btw this is just a temporary measure till i get some funds for a new barrel and piston

I'm not sure if which and what gasket are changed cos i was not there when they did the swap.. as for the gearbox,i've no idea why isit leaking too.

regarding opening of cylinder head and changing of gaskets, larry would you kindly answer the question cos i've totally no idea what is done during the swap.

I feel that if it needs to be changed then you have to change it,and not save the $ for it which amounts to a bigger problem in the future.. eventually costing more $$$.

Hi bro,

Think no point in asking. You'll have to accept anything said with a pinch of salt. I suggest from now on, if you're not familiar with the workshop, you watch your bike being done. I always see my bike being worked on, so i can learn how to identify stuff myself and also see how the mech works. Better that way i guess.

Take it as a harsh lesson learnt. Seems to me, only good stuff is bragged about in the forum. But the bad stuff has to be communicated thru PMs, or calls. Why? Bad publicity. :)

Cheers

I agree with this statement. And personally, I feel that $730 for the polini kit is an UNBELIEVEABLY awesome price!

PJME used to sell it for 428 pounds, now it's dropped to 337 pounds, but it's still cheaper in this deal!

The polini is awesome in a premix setup and if you get your tuning right. But that's a whole another can of worms. You'll spend ages tuning and it's not easy to tune as the stock block. I recommend it for city riding for sure. But people who are rev happy will hate it definitely. The power is in the mid rang, not the top end.

Lastly, most people dont know the polini runs very hot. Esp the new models. Stock block runs about up to 70plus when it is hot and maybe 60plus while riding. The polini can hit up to 90 when you're idling at a traffic light, and riding temp is about 76-78. Think abt it. :)

Guys, i'm planning on giving my Aprilia a top & btm rebuild :) Which piston and size should i get from PJME for my stock block?

Below is the selection of parts for my btm end rebuild. Would appreciate advices and comments :)

Hi mate,

I would recommend the stock rotax piston but it costs a bomb!! Been trying to source for it online. Weda selling for $300.

If not get the Wossner piston. Only about 70plus on PJ. Works out to be about $150 Ah seng sells it for $250 at his workshop.

Also, i'd recommend if you're getting the balance shaft gears(gear balancers as they're commonly known here), you also get the oil pump drive gear.

However, you dont have to replace them unless they're spoilt and about to go. Keep it as spares. Coz these 3 items go for $300plus in SG. See the price difference!!

Rest looks fine. Get sparkplug in SG too. cheaper.

Some suckers must have thought it was funny and put a crack on my bike's front fairing today while she was happily parked at market street ... any bro can recommend where is good to get a new front fairing (& installed)?

Brand new head fairing $600plus. Suggest you get it patched up and resprayed. Less than half the cost. :)

ok dude..u can install yourself or any workshop of your choice,i do not own a workshop therefore im cannot address the issue immd but to check with the mech n responding thru sms which is faster and immd instead of posting here and having little kaypo girls wanting to get involve in adult matters. .. im juz selling or should i say bragging the products ,when we have something beneficial to the community,we tend to feel proud to announce but of course there will always be couple of attention seeking little whiners.

OK theres a little too much side tracking...

anyway about those Ohlins........ hahahaha :p:P..

Hahhaha! that sure is mean Larry.

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.
