Dear Friends,

The first batch of items from PJME have arrived!! However, I'm due to receive another batch next week, as they're currently working on sending it out by this week. I will update again when it arrives and set a date for collection of items.

The first box i have has a ton of stuff, and it's going to be a headache to sort out. I'll be expecting something in return for my hard work. :)

That's nice, I'm back.

When the winds resist my impetus and sights become passing shadows. Every other sound is voided, all but the undeniable roar of my engine.

My physical vision recepts naught, but my mind is tranquil.

I see my inner soul.

I'd say they're on par. :)

They both have different ways of tuning and different ideas of what is right.

And regarding price, if you're a regular at either, you'll get a good price for sure.

I used to be a regular at Teck Thye, and I still would patronise David if I don't mind waiting. David is good with Aprilia's but he's also good with most other bikes and his queue of waiting riders is longer than Ah Seng's. He also charges a little pricier for first timers there, so if you're planning to make him your regular mech, you might have to pay a small 'membership fee' for the first time you are there... But this is the same for most shops anyway...

Yup, i agree with you on this Ash. Ah Seng plays it safe. You need to tell him what you want to get it. And in all regards, I think he's learnt alot from riders who are very fussy about their tuning like myself. :) If you want extra, you'll need to read up, and tell him what to do.

All riders SHOULD read up and stop expecting others to spoon-feed them.

Kids from the new generation these days are mostly from the 302-Platoon and Girl Guides. Really hopeless. Hope Aprilia riders are not like that.

There is also no such thing as perfect tuning as temp, air moisture content, fuel type/brand, 2T type, road type will change the tuning conditions.

Every type of tuning if push to the max for a particular riding style has its own limitation..

Its just what the style and limitation and sacrifices that one is willing to make..

Same with every type of carb, each has its pros and cons.. Be it a 28mm, 34mm or otherwise..

lacrimosae is the man to go to for tuning :)

Oi! Stop pushing them to me!

I feel at home already :)

I removed my 20A fuse before leaving for taiwan and my bike nicely roared to a start with the choke engaged. Waiting for my 34mm to arrive, gonna go open box for the 'bassier' sound that Ashraf boasts.

Been revving hard since I can't hear my engine with my earpiece and full face on, hitting the 12ks. Loving it! Nothing makes me feel free like riding a bike.

Haha I try, it's not my main mode of transport as I use my car when I'm working or when the girlfriend is around.

Nope. Only petrol. Petrol evaporates and since our breather hoses that equalizes the pressure inside the fuel tank isn't airtight (for good reason), the fuel in the tank will evaporate albeit slower than being out in the open.

Yo Lawrence, wish to check sth with you. Is Contact Cleaner the safest option to use for cleaning items such as Valve, Carb, Cylinder and any item within the crankcase since it doesnt leave any residue behind? But i'm guessing it isnt the most efficient way?

Well.... Depends if you're rich or not. haha....

Carb can be cleaned with clean, fresh petrol (without 2T premixed into it). Then, as a final touch, just spray contact cleaner to get rid of any residue or dirt etc. Leave it to dry in the sun, or if cleaning carb at night, just leave it to dry because contact cleaners will make the carb really cold and water will condense on it, and inside the channels.

For valve and valve spring, petrol is fine. The valve housing can be cleaned with petrol too. But do not let the petrol soak the seal and o-ring inside the housing for more than 5 minutes. The o-ring will swell and become damaged. It won't fit back into place.

Finally, for cylinder, just use lint-free chamois to wipe (so you don't leave lint and cloth fibres behind), don't need it really clean and bone dry. You still need the lubrication for the crankcase. But if you've got the entire engine open, including the crankcase, petrol is best to clean the oil out with. Then a bit of contact cleaner as a once over. Don't have to deplete entire can of contact cleaner to clean the crankcase.

Hope that helps.

Yes, that's the reason why recently have been eagerly reading up, watching videos and once my exams are over, i'm gonna mug the haynes manual like a bible. What worries me is the lack of tools such as fly wheel puller, many different sizes of O rings, specified oils and heat gun.

I can't justified the price for the labor to stripe open the engine as it literally equates to a new 34mm Carb from pjme. Furthermore the knowledge that comes along with it, priceless.

Oh.... If I had known you were planning a full overhaul I would have recommended different.

Ok, I thought U were only doing a top overhaul and was just going to clean the barrel.

For a full overhaul, you'll need to get a lot of rags, petrol, and cleaners.

Clean out the inside of the engine casings with petrol, then a once over with a little bit of contact cleaner to make sure it is completely bone dry and oil-free. You'll feel better starting on a clean slate. Literally.

Is heat gun absolutely essential for rebuilds? Are the bearings that difficult to insert?

Bearings can use plastic or rubber mallet to knock in but must be dampened with a wooden block. The wooden block also helps keep the bearings perpendicular while it is being worked in gently. Heat guns are not absolutely necessary but are good to have. Not that they would actually help that much.

When I did my overhaul I never thought of doing a time lapse video. Now the technology makes it easy to do so... Could I come and watch? and set up my tripod to do time lapse photography then edit it into a video. It would be so cool.... Plus I could help in whatever way possible.
