Bonker> Wasn't anywhere near ECP yesterday or the day before. Picked the bike up from ideal last night and headed home to woodlands with it. With the Arrow system and the 34mm carb the bike really pulls now. Really boggy off the lights but once you get moving it's fantastic. Had the suspension reset to its original position and fixed the sloppy gear shift lever etc. The bike feels heaps better now.

:)

didn't fix the fairing but I made a makeshift repair using a bottle cap were it mounts on the LHS. After cleaning it up the bike actually looks alot better anyway and I can't be arsed to fix the paint as I'm really only going to use it for track anyway so there's a good change I'll drop it again I guess.

Muser> Any ideas where else we can get the paddock stand? anyway my suggestion is we get a list of interested buyers first and then approach a few shops and see what we can negotiate.

Others> If you're keen to meet up this Wed night maybe we can arrange something. Would love to meet more RS125 riders.

Next topic> TRACK SESSION!!! Who's keen? I think PG is unbooked the weekend after next. I'm hoping to head over for the Sat morning session to test out my RS. Would be AWESOME to have a few more RS riders there.

:)

Guess the FS I saw wasn't you. But it did look in pretty good condition when it shot past me on the right lane. Tried to chase in car but couldn't catch up.. only saw milo can and chicken stripes. Ha!

Yeah, bike was in pretty good condition. Just some asthetics and a milo can to get rid of. I'm still bikeless, waiting patiently for another good one to pop up. Pity about CX bike tho. I would have most certainly bought it. :)

Hi!

I'm a "new licenced rider" as well :) And the first bike I'm riding on the Siingapore roads after I got my licence is an RS125... I'm not sure about the maintenance, but I can assure you that -especially when you first buy the bike- you'll wanna ride it non-stop.. that's what happened to me :D

Actually, the bike is not mine, it belongs to a friend. I'm riding it until he comes back from overseas. But, now I'm considering to buy one for myself.

The only thing that I'm not happy with is the back and neck pain I get after riding the bike. Do you guys also feel it, or is it with my neck/back? :)

______

There's something I want to ask also. Today I realised that the cap of the 2T oil container under the seat was missing. (I'm still wondering what might have happened:) anyway... where should I go and get a new one? any ideas? thanks....

lilium martagon : get from chengxi lah... unless got ppl wanna buy his 2T tank full set...

cheng xi : how does an aprilia original racing footrest look like? u got pix bor? i was thinking of changing the clutch part...

Welcome Andre! Any time you notice a meetup or DIY session announced on this forum thread, do swing by - it's always great to meet more Aprilians. It'd be great if you could add your contact details to the Aprilia Owners' Club member's list on page 188 too so that you won't be left out of SMS announcements.

I appreciate you putting in the time and effort to go through part of this intimidatingly long thread. I only managed 50 pages myself before my first post here. It took me a few days to and I was blurred out by that point, heheh.

As you now know, the flat spot is normal and unavoidable. I'm curious though - do you encounter the flat spot even when throttling hard from below 5k rpm?

And yea..im a new rider.. is the bike ideal for new riders?[/b]

For new riders, points against are:

  • sports bike riding position, which takes getting used to (this applies to all sports bikes)

  • peaky engine's lack of low-end torque can be a challenge in traffic and with pillions

  • little engine braking (cuz 2-stroke) means less training in balancing engine load

Poimts for it are:

  • best handling in its class (and sometimes above its class) makes it fun and safe at the same time

  • handling also makes it ideal platform for learning more advanced riding skills

As for your other questions, they've been covered exhaustively in this thread. Summary - not more expensive than other sports bikes, except spart part prices; fuel consumption varies widely based on set up and riding style (~17km/l to ~25km/l).

The riding position is unavoidable, and unfortunately, control increases the lower you crouch. Pain is avoidable though to some extent. Obviously, stretching properly before each and every ride helps. When you're on the bike, anchor your body using every body part except your back. Grip the tank, plant on the footpegs, and see if you can find some way to rest your stomach, chest and helmet on the tank. Those of us who have tank bags have a much easier time as we can get some chest/neck support without having to crouch so low. What kind/brand/model of helmet are you using?

For more on body positioning, I recommend A Twist of the Wrist II, which is available at both Borders and Kinokuniya, and Sport Riding Techniques, which, as far as I know, isn't available in Singapore (I bought from Amazon).

Of course, there are other ways to save fuel, like using Broquet fuel treatment (available from MotoX), which Lawrence has had very good results with. I'm gonna get some myself.

No ideas at the moment, but I haven't even started asking around. Good idea to get a list together first though. Below is the list I started but no new takers yet. Ben? I thought you were interested? Anyone else? If you guys are worried about price, feel free to discuss what you think would be a reasonable amount to pay.

1) muser

2) Axxis

3) Roadster (on the condition that it fits your RS250)

Anyone keen for a 1-hour track session at Pasir Gudang on Saturday 30 April 2005? Axxis (RS125) and I (RS250) will be going for the 10-11am session (weather permitting of course). Aim is to just have fun. Should be back in Singapore by 1.00pm.

All are welcome to join us especially newbies. But make sure that your bike is up to it (brakes & suspension working well, bike not leaking oil etc etc) and that you are properly suited up. Those who just wanna go look-see are also welcome. Maybe you can help take some pictures for us ; )

Meeting place will probably be the Esso station at Gelang Patah R&R stop @ 2nd Link. Distance to PG is about 50km and we will do a pit stop just before turning into the circuit.

Seriously though, it might be viable to fabricate a stand at a place like Seng Kwang at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2A, which can fabricate any stainless steel bike item you want, but it might be cheaper to buy an existing stand model and certainly more convenient. Let's shop around first lah.

I think its worth a shot asking Seng Kwang for a quote. I am sure that they would have fabricated one before so they might already have a design on hand.

We can then compare that with Motor World's price and move on from there.

Any other suggestions?

You know, I'm tempted to propose that this be a full AOC outing, but I know very few of us have the gear. Tentatively count me in; I'll confirm by Thurs night. I've got everything except suitable pants - was gonna get touring pants but am now holding out for a particular suit I have my eyes on - so I'm going just to watch and hang out. Call me whatever you want, but I'm curious cuz I've only been to PG in cars.

You've got a point, and besides, how much effort can a phone call take. I'll do that tomorrow, and maybe make some calls to various mototiams as well.

Hi muser,

Great! I do hope you'll (and others as well) be able to join us.

Believe it or not, my first outing on the track was on a cruiser with touring gear. I took it easy and had fun. And I was addicted from then on.

I have friends who still go down with their Hornets, BMW GS1100s, Triumph Tigers, and Super 4s.

Axxis has only been on the track twice (on a street bike) and he's hooked as well.

We all need to start somewhere. Most start by just riding down to Pasir Gudang to have a look-see to see what the fuss is all about. Some start by just taking it easy and just "tour" round the track. But once you experience what you bike (especially an Aprilia which was made for this occasion) and you are capable of, it's quite addictive.

I rode the RS250 for the first time on the track last week and it had me grinning from ear to ear. With the engine screaming at redline, I felt like a MotoGP star.

BTW, I have a spare pair of touring pants (AXO) size 50 that you could borrow if you want. Do let me know if you are interested to see if it fits.

The basic gear has been covered in previous posts (jeans, Army boots, touring jacket, full length gloves and full face helmet) but I would encourage that at least touring gear be worn for your own safety.

consumption is mainly due to the carb setting..

next would be ya riding style, piston condition and exhaust and etc..

i used to get only 16 - 17km/l using a 34mm carb and after market exhaust..

i changed jet down my carb and managed to get 17 - 18km/l..

after that, my mech changed the atomiser for me.. i was able to get 21 - 22 km/l

ya gotta feel how's ya bike running and relay that to the mech and he'll be able

to fine tune for ya...

and now.. i'm running a 39mm Keihin racing carb.. it's very big mind ya..

and i'm getting 17km/l~ now in the midst of fine tuning the setting.. hope to acquire

a mileage of 19 - 20km/l..

sometimes at certain range when ya do a full throttle, ya'll suddenly feel ya bike

will giving a boggin/heavy sound and the rpm simply stays there for 1 - 2 sec

before going up.. it means that range is too rich.. if it goes up too quickly and

peaks very fast.. it means that range is too lean.. in a nutshell, it's to achieve a

optimum setting for the best performance eand efficiency..

now these are different range.. low end (2k - 3k rpm to redline), mid range (5k - 7k rpm to redline)

and top end (7.5k rpm to redline)..

the float height affects the low end, need clip position affects the mid range and the

main jet affect the top end..

these are from what i comphrehend.. it might be wrong.. feel free to discuss..
