Hello brother.....I can't make it on that day cause I'm going K.L and Genting. Can u keep it for me and I come and collect it once I'm back. Can anyone advised me,should I change my engine oil before this trip and what is the most important tools to bring along since I will be riding there alone.

If your EO is almost time to change, please change before trip.

Since you are alone, there are limited space for tools.

Important item

1. Tyre repair kits and foot pump.

2. The basic tools set which comes together with the bike.

3. The phone numbers which need during emergency, malaysia/SG tow service number etc.

4. A spare light bulb (for Fog light, if you wanna bring one for head light also can)

If you have done a proper service and maintenance on this bike, these are the tools which you need to bring along.

Wish you have a safe and enjoyable ride.

Enquiry-

Anyone here change battery before? Is there a need to change the rectifier at the same time too? What are the symptoms of a dying battery? Lastly, how much does a rectifier cost?

Thanks.

When you rev the engine, the volt goes up to about 13v+, mean the rectifier is ok.

2 years change batt is good.

Or

When engine is not running

You find that your lights become dimmer not as bright as before, horn is not as loud as before... time to check/change your batt..

I just bought one from LAB, made Japan.. it costs me $65.

Hi Blackangel,

You don't have to change the rectifier when you change the battery. The last time i change my battery, it died on me when i got problems starting...clicking sound but can't start at all, then i know that the battery is dead!

i can't remember what is the model of our battery...maybe custom or Sg can advice...but please change if your battery is about 3yrs old...

Thanx Swift

Thanks.

I've changed it once on 6 Apr '06 @ FSH, after about 28k miles.

Costed S$95 including S$10 installation fees.

Basically need not do anything to the rectifier as divvy has it own charging coil.

But Swift did encounter some problems with his 'starter carbon' in the coil before, may want to check with him for further details.

Hope that helps.

Apr '99 - Sept '00 (Yamaha WR200)

Dec '00 - Jul '03 (Honda CB400 Version S)

Jul '03 - 5 June '06 (Yamaha XJ900S Diversion)

10 May '06 - Current (2004 Yamaha FJR1300ABS)

29 Aug '07 - Current (Suzuki Swift Sports-Mega)

04 Feb '09 - Current (2009 Honda City LX i-Vtec)

Hi Casper, thanks for your comment. I'm aware of Swift's problem cos he did mention to us but I dunno how is the current state of his bike now. I believe there is a need to change the whole coil which is quite costly, isn't that right Swift?

Weather very bad these days,so unpredictable. With you having stock tyres,do be very careful especially with pillion when riding up there...I think McTan has given you some of the tips needed. Have a fun and safe ride.

Not at the moment as my bike is working well. Actually what casper is referring to is my starter motor which is different from the Alternator which charges our battery when our engine is running. The starter motor only starts our bike, it does not charges anything at all.

Hi Bats,

Due to limitation, I had changed my design for the shirt to normal printing instead of reflective.

Do we really need to have a fully synthethic oil for our second hand bike? Can a semi-synthethic work just fine? If not,how much difference can we feel between the 2 of this?

Hi BlackAngel,

So far me using V300/fully synthetic motul oil no problem, warming up the engine is important once warmed up the engine runs smoother, pick up better, you can rep faster and can delay the oil change much longer then other fully synthetic oil's.

Fully Synthetic oil is better another word full protection. If I were to explain it. long story. everytime change oil remember to change the oil filter too.

-yamaha and honda they have different oil pressures to open the bypass inside the filter incase filter chocked. do not use honda oil filters on yamaha or vice versa.

As for your question semi oil can be used- 'Yes' very simple- shorter oil change thats all.

a) I can recommend another oil -if you cannot get the motul 15/50w oil's- have you heard silkolene they have 15/50w about $19/- per litre.

b) Now I using NGK iridium spark plugs about $12/- per piece spark plug number DPR8EIX-9 you can feel the difference.

both items can be obtain from chong Aik "yamaha" desker road and they have limited yamaha parts.
