Be in the right frame of Mind

Stay Alert and be ware of your level of perception, judgment and coordination. Accidents occur when you make wrong judgements or cannot react in time to sudden traffic or road situations.

Tips: Imagine you are in an invisible vehicle, so don�t expect others to see you.

Stealth mode is as good as Defensives mode.

 

Expect the Unexpected

Be on the look out for sudden changes in road condition, even on familiar road, as diversions can spring up overnight. Travel at slow speed on unfamiliar road or during a heavy downpour and you�ll give yourself more reaction time for emergencies.

Tips: Road Work, Sand, Pot Holes, Fallen Object & Animal. At high speed concerns or run over. It can be deadly to you. (Loss control)

 

Speeding

Speed put you, your passengers and other road user at risk. When you speed, you have less time to react to emergencies. The ipact of a crash will also be greater, resulting in more serious damage or injuries.

Tips: Its not how fast you go, its how long you can stay on your bike.

 

Tailgating

It is dangerous to follow another car too closely because you�ll have a shorter reaction time if the cars in front stop suddenly.

Tips: Always keep a few car length away judge by the speed you are in, signal & overtake in safely. Need not to wait for them to give way to you as it will only delay your time& anger you if they don�t.

 

Road Hogging

Driving or Riding slowly can be dangerous, if you are in a lane meant for faster traffic. You force other traffic user behind you to overtake to avoid hitting you.

Tips: Follows the traffic flow, if you are driving or riding at speed limits keep yourself in the middle or left lane as you ain�t that fast.

 

Overtaking with signalling

It is only courteous to turn the signal on to show your intention t0o turn, change lanes or stop. It also gives ample time to react to your action and not have to brake suddenly.

Tips: It don�t mean if you signal vehicles will give way to you or you have your way of right. Always check your mirror & blind spot before lane change.

 

Poor lane discipline

Zig Zagging through traffic to overtake vehicles, forcing other to give way to is rude and unsafe road act.

Tips: If you enjoy it, try playing it on track or on game console.

 

Multi Tasking

Give your full attention on the road, making phone calls, sms, chatting with pillion lets you loss focus. If needed, turn on your hazard light to stop at the side or turn in petrol station or car park.

Tips: You don�t own the road so be considerate and don�t stop at the side of the main road.

 

Ignoring pedestrians and cyclists

Just because you are in 4 wheels or 2 wheel motor power vehicles does not mean you can bully smaller cc, cyclist or pedestrians. Road courtesy should be apply to all in general.

Tips: Understand that some people take it for granted but you hit them, you are in deep trouble.

Fellow Knights/Associates/Friends who join us for rides around Singapore and up north. Here's a rough guideline of the do's and don'ts of group riding. Hope that you can make an effort to follow the list. Note that the list is non-exhaustive and will be updated from time to time by observation of fellow members.

 

 

Do's

1. Maintain travelling speed at +/- 10km/h of the road speed limit (for leader)

2. Maintain in single lane following a staggered formation

3. Leaders to signal intention early

4. Riders behind to pass down the signalled intention accordingly

5. Tap on horn(lightly) to inform the rider in front if you are stuck at the traffic light

6. On hazard lights (for those who have it) when stopping by the road side

7. Maintain the gap and safety distance between bikes

8. Maintain going straight unless markers indicate a turn at expressway exits or turns

9. Give way to vehicles and try not to roadhog as we are travelling in a big pack

10. Wear safety gears where possible (Minimum jeans, covered shoes and sleeved shirt)

11. Riding with gloves is preferred

12. Know your route to the destination well so as to prevent panic when you cannot follow up to the riders ahead

13. Have sufficient rest before the ride

14. Bring along your valid road tax and insurance

 

Don'ts

1. Overtake the rider in front unless absolutely necessary

2. Switch lanes without signalling

3. Overtaking vehicles from the left and right (pincer-style overtaking)

4. Beat red light just to keep up with the rider in front

5. Challenge/ Disturb other road users on the road

6. Backfire

7. Slow down excessively resulting in the need to speed to catch up with the pack

8. Try anything dangerous during the ride (eg. extremely high speed cornering/ Bua Kartar/ Riding with one or no hands)

9 Ride with slippers/sandals and singlets

10. Stray away from the group even if the leader is taking a wrong route

11. Switch on any illegal lighting that you may have on your bike
