Vinegar cleans up the residual smell of cat/dog urine that keeps attracting them to come back to pee on the same spot. I do not know if the smell itself is repellent (never tried on my cat); however, sometimes I mop the floor with vinegar and the smell dissipates after a while.

I recommend Axe oil because the smell stays quite long. My own cat is very sensitive to the menthol smell. A suggestion is to dab some Axe oil on a small piece of cloth or handkerchief) and place on the seat (if you have a seat strap can use it to hold the cloth down). Or you can apply to the seat directly. Have to reapply regularly because the smell does fade.

Bike cover solves it all doesn't it? Why should you endure the smell of vineger etc just so some cats don't get to your bike?

bike cover doesn't work. somehow the cat manages to work its way into it.

Happen to come across this when surfing on white vinegar cleaning.

http://www.vinegartips.com/pets/

Cats hate the smell of vinegar. If you have a cat that is marking its territory around your house, spray the area with white distilled vinegar then rinse with a hose.

Discourage a sitting cat from n a certain windowsill or other surface, or from scratching upholstery, by spraying white distilled vinegar on the item. Test first on an unnoticeable area to be sure there won’t be a discoloration.

White vinegar is really cheap so I guess no harm trying.

Another method I read from this forum is to put axe brand medicated oil.

I heard that cats enjoy sleeping on warm surfaces, like car hoods or under cars. Explains why so many of them get run over by accident -- gosh.

Cannot! Then every time I cuddle my pooch, I'll smell white vinegar :faint:

Axe oil shouldn't damage your cover especially if it's those cheap "leather" seats. I'm not saying soak the cover, just dab a few drops here and there and spread. You don't need to cover the entire seat in Axe oil.

Alternative is to get a small piece of cloth and drop many drops of Axe oil, then secure it onto your seat. Cats have a good sense of smell and they can definitely smell the Axe oil.

That being said, this will only work if the cats in your neighbourhood hate the Axe oil smell. My own cat cannot tahan Tiger Balm but strangely she will lick the open bottle sometimes...

Until kitty scratches a big hole in your seat. Then you'll understand.
