plane although faster, but u have to keep to certain timing. then from airport take cab go there, is not that cheap also.

i like to leave when i want, and go when i want anytime...

next time no prob. but i dun ride bike go touring anymore. i like the comfort of being in a car for long trips, plus if tired and just sleep in car. bike cannot ah...

i dun drive that fast, only 120km/hr... just abit higher than NSHW limit. nowadays, many ambushes just before KL, also on the way back before hitting JB toll. be careful not to go too fast.

pls advise on any 'impossibilities' or 'unrealism'. open to critique

I'll list out the unrealisms since everybody is being too nice.

You're riding a 2B phantom, big bikes riders are unlikely to follow you because you're too slow. Do you know that a 1000cc bike will "choke" going at 100km/h in last gear?

You seek experienced riders to join you. Chances are, they ride a big bike and can't ride at your speed comfortably. Those riding 2B will be scared to bring a newbie, and they don't know you.

You're the organiser, and thats a problem because you need to be in charge but you're not experienced enough.

You have parental permission issues, which resulted in a problem because if you went alone you wouldn't need to ask others to help in your head count.

You don't have the experience, and that makes it more risky for you. You need to be mentally prepared to deal with emergencies, but can you?

You are 19, u say? :slapforehead:

Have you crashed before? You tried handling yourself after a crash? Have u rode solo before? You can topo? Have you toured before? You know how tiring it can be on a 2B bike, even more than a class 2? Have you done overtaking on NSH before? Can u gauge fast vehicles? Do you know the risks involved?

My intention is not to put you down. Age, inexperience and everything I listed have not deterred young people from riding the world. But you need to know what you're getting into. Having the right spirit is good. You have the spirit. But do you know what you're getting into? Some of the questions you asked suggest otherwise. Most world tourers started small too. I have some suggestions. You can ignore them.

1. Ride to thailand first.

2. Get yourself trained in first aid to assure your parents.

3. Plan for a solo ride. Its gonna be tough getting a group ride in your case.

4. Seek the knowledge to survive. Language skills, tyre repair skills, how to take out your battery etc. The more the better.

5. Check and double check your info. For starters, please do not plan on taking a "night" train to Bangkok because there is no night train. The train leaves some time between 3pm to 6pm. Info can be found in this forum in Trip Thrills.

6. Be angry with me, because if you don't feel the slightest irritation you don't have what it takes to finish what you imagined you could have done. The more anger the better. That should spur you.

The answers you seek can be found in this forum if you bothered to search.

Its one thing to bite off more than you can chew when things go tits up. Its another not to know what you chewed. In the first instance, you considered the odds and lived on the thrill. In the latter you're more likely to regret it.

Lastly, do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do what you think you can. Make it happen, and tell us how u did it.

Hello guys!

I know the forum is the best place for advice and so here i am wanting to find out a little from the knowledgeable out there.

Because i'm intending to ride up with my bro with our phantoms to malaysia, southern thailand and cambodia. We want to go to these countries to do charitable work. But before we do so, we must know if we're able to even get into these countries. So below is the description of what i need to know.

1. Permits, licenses and visas.

We do not know offhand what kind of permits we need but we have a vague idea of what we need. We might need to get a permit to do charity work.

Licenses required would be the conversion of our drivers license to an international one. But in these countries, we do not know if it is required. We also do not know if a driving/riding experience of at least 1 year is required.

Another license required is the license to bring our bike into the various countries. Malaysia would not be a problem but Thailand and Cambodia might pose some issues.

Visas for our stay in the various countries may be required. So we might have to contact the various embassies to inquire if we might need visas to stay in the country for at least 1 week.

So these are the things we noted down in our planning.

If any of you have ever rode your bike to thailand or cambodia, please give us advice as it is crucial for us.

And if anyone is interested in joining this trip, please do let me know. You can email me at [email protected]

We are planning to do this trip in September.

Rastus

Hey bro, I know you love God and desire to do mission trip... (I suppose that's why you are planning to go Cambodia, right?)

But, do have the wisdom to know when is the right time to travel up... I believe a good start would be like what Madman said... "Maybe go to KL then back, that about equates to travelling to Hatyai in one day".

Bro, I've done several tours up North before and rode up to Thailand. It's very much different from what you imagine it to be... It can be very tiring and besides... I really think you should take these few months to join more group trips on SBF to get a feel of what's travelling long distance in a day like! :thumb:

Continue to pray to God for wisdom...

And yes, I agree with what stommer said "Lastly, do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do what you think you can. Make it happen, and tell us how u did it."

God bless you.

Once a humblerider, always a humblerider!

Hi stommer,

actually, i do agree with all that you have said...maybe i'm not prepared yet. or infact, i think i'm not. I've been thinking about this every single day and maybe what you and humblerider said confirms what i've to do.

I will definitely do this trip again somewhere in the future but not now. And i'll prepare by travelling around m'sia first. Going up to melaka in 2 weeks time. Maybe KL or Ipoh soon. But thanks for the advice. I mean, whether ppl was nice or wasn't nice, the advice was still good.

And i don't feel irritated, i shouldn't be...if i do, then it shows my pride. But i'm here to learn and i've to take the critique..its all part of the learning..

And humble rider...thanks for the encouragement and the advice...i'd like to go up to Thai sometime soon. Maybe in Sep...but it'll depend.

And thank You everyone for the advice...

This experience on this post has helped me learn alot as a biker.

That Zeal, must come with Wisdom.

Cheers!

Rastus

So this trip officially postponed!

i believe these 3 main criteria which is broken down to sub categories.

body

bike

about getting there

body

understanding the limitations of yourself

First Aid knowledge

haemorrhages

cuts & wounds

blah blah

bike

troubleshooting ur machine

knowing your machine

talking & listening to you machine

blah blah

about getting there

where?

wat to expect?

wat to prepare?

taboos

hospitals

clinics

police post

documents

blah blah

i believe the 1st 2 comes with experience & will save you alot of headaches should you come across a situation.

the last is to read, ask , read, ask , read, ask...

Getting to thai needs to 2 white cards & 1 thai card as u r;

entering malaysia - exit malaysia - enter thai

exit thai - enter malaysia - exit malaysia - back in sg

log card bring in of emergency. how heavy or space can a piece of paper gets

go to lta website & print out for a small amount. zap copies & keep. no harm

This is as much as we bikers can do to assist, the remaining pieces is yours to obtain

kudos for the big ambition... :thumb:
