If you do come to Singapore and enter via the 1st link, then you don't need all this cashcard nonsense.

To get to the 1st link, you need to go into Johor Baru, then follow the signs to Woodlands.

Once in Singapore, you do need a cashcard to enter the restricted zones, and pass under 'active' gantries (which seem to be everywhere now), and for some parking areas.

I think you can rent the IU unit from the checkpoint, then buy a cashcard from any petrol station or 7-11 once in Singapore. But someone needs to clarify the renting bit.

Actually, any foreign vehicle has to buy an autopass card. My sis is married to a Malaysian and they drive down quite often. Damn card costs $20 and your entitled to 14 free VEP days. Once that's used up, it'll be $20 per day for cars, $4 per day for bikes

$5 for a whole day if u pass an ERP gantry. (This means it's a one time fee. I always joke with my bro-in-law to make full use of the $5 and go through all the gantries in sg :cheeky:)

The autopass card is essentially a cashcard, so there's actually no need to rent an iu unit. Also, autopass cards are issued to that specific vehicle. (Meaning that they are not "shareable" unlike cashcards)

With regards to the extra $120, i guess that's because the vehicle is registered in a non-Asean country. And if you do decide to head down here to sunny Singapore, do inform, who knows forummers are able to bring you to enjoy the sights and sounds. :thumb:

Thanks for the responses, the boss (wife) has spoken and she wants a vespa (of course i want a 1098, but it's not worth arguing). I'm looking at a few in the garage sale section here, thanks for the tip.

Is there a Vespa dealer in Singapore? New and/or secondhand?

Thanks.

Tom.

Hey Tommy,

All that matter aside. Being an expat here, did you get your license converted or are you using some kinda International driving permit of sorts to ride here?

Last I knew, foreigners here could only get their licenses converted to a Class 2B (bikes 200cc and below).

Your wanting a 1098 makes me wonder whether you got around that ruling, and how.

Anyway, have fun riding here. Different style than in Australia. Bikers usually lanesplit here and will probably appear to ride like reckless delivery/despatch riders to you. Most of us. :p

Hi Bro Deus, let me try clarifying at this. Previously i had a fren with the same situation. He was an expat & wanted to get a 2007 fireblade.

After researching on the net & making some calls, his foundings was;

if rider were to ride less than a year-

no conversion of license required but having proof you rode a big bike in your home country would be good support. such as insurance, log card, etc. as for insurance, most prob it'll be slightly higher

if rider were to ride for more than a year-

conversion is required & really really recommended to proof you rode a big bike in your home country for xxx no. of years as strong backing. insurance co would also ask rider to sign an undertaking letter requesting rider to obtain a sg license within 1yr. meaning rider can ride the bike while waiting to obtain the license. Bear in mind that TP can grant any license including 2B even after knowing they have the exp in riding a big bike & buying a bike after conversion is always the recommended choice.

i might be wrong or missing some facts but this is based purely on my personal exp... :thumb:

Deus,

TP takes a less stricter view on Class-2 level licence holders from certain countries (drive on same side of road, similar traffic laws, etc).

I have an ex-colleague from Australia who converted his Class 2 straight. Just do the equivalent of a basic theory and that's it.

SPF TP website has this mentioned:

Conversion for a higher capacity or open category motorcycle licence is normally not granted unless there are documentary proof of training, testing, ownership of bigger motorcycle and insurance policy indicating that you have gone through proper training and testing regime and have had at least one year riding experience on the road.

My friend has owned a full licence and owned several big bikes back home for many years. I guess that helped.

Deus,

I've only neen here for a month so for now i'm riding on my Aus licence. I only bought a 150cc bike anyway, so it's ok if they put me on 2B. Thanks for letting me know though.

Just a side note, your name, is it related to the store in Sydney? For 8 years, i worked 50m up the road from the Deus Ex Machina store in Camperdown. Great store, but you either love their bikes or you hate them.

Hmm...

I cannot imagine Deus as a bike shop boss.

Sitting behind a desk and muttering the same thing in a hoarse voice to every customer asking for a bargain:

"Aiya! Chin-chai ah, chin-chai!"

On second thoughts, maybe that might fit.

LOL....
