Finally had a chance to do a proper test run of my GoPro HD at PG earlier this week.

I managed to get only 30 minutes of recording before the battery died on me. I was fuming thinking I may have got a bad battery. Then I read in a forum somewhere that some batteries may require cycling from full to empty a couple of times before they can hit full charge. Tried this at home (full charge, then leave it to record until battery runs out, repeat three times), and now it works fine. So if you're having battery problems, I recommend trying this.

For those of you looking for a way to have a removable/relocatable safety line on your GoPro to stop it flying off if the normal mounting fails, here is what I did.

1. Get a nylon-coated wire line from a fishing shop. Most will come with sleeves to help you crimp the wire line. Cost = $2-3.

2. Crimp one end of the wire line around the exposed part of the GoPro housing hinge (in the middle of the hinge - see pic below).

3. Crimp the other end of the wire line into a loop (see pic below). You can later thread the loop around a climbing hook, with or without a keychain ring. Cost = 80c per hook. You can see the keychain ring and climbing hook I used in the third pic below.

4. Find a place on your bike on which to hook the climbing hook.

This securing method worked a treat for the two places I had my camera. Photos below. For the tail mount, the hook was hooked onto the pillion grab strap. For the headlight fairing mount, the wire line was threaded through the hole where the side mirrors would normally be, and the hook was hooked onto the line itself (i.e. looped around itself).

Excellent suggestion , will get me one of those wires !

Can you please take photos of where you mounted the camera ? Did you use the adhesive mounts or the cup ?

And upload a couple of videos too !

Just like in ships, I use red to prevent the display from killing night vision when riding through (possibly) very dark roads at night. Since the rider will be looking down at the HUD projected against the road (at head height), it looks more awesome :)

Change the display to green for the second part because it's sunrise and green gives better contrast in the day. And because green is awesome too :)

(Yes, bright white LED consoles are a bad bad idea for pitch black M'sian highways! Red is best for night vision)

You can use any iphone or android smartphone as a HUD so long as it has GPS. GPS does not work underground or under buildings as the satellite signal does not penetrate earth and concrete.

This improvised smartphone HUD is useful for navigation and calculating your speedo error. Exposing your smartphone and digital camera to rain is not for the faint of heart, however the windscreen is there for a reason :) They both survived perfectly, by the way. Contrast with say, an old Nokia 6288, which will short itself out the moment it contacts water :D

yo people do you think its possible to use iphone 4 to film our ride? im trying to think of a way to fix it to the bike/helmet/body..

If I hit you and you hit me, and I hit you back and you hit me back, and go on, you see, that goes on ad infinitum. It just never ends. wow that keychain camera has pretty damn good camera. although night time was a bit poorer, but i think it suits my needs just fine.

how long is the recording time?

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

Fully charged, can record around 40mins of video.

I am getting a external emergency power supply for it soon, then it should be able to record up to 4hrs or more.

But your 8 gi memory card won't be able to last even 3 hours....

I'm using a 16GB memory card. :)

With the new firmware, it support Continuous Recording too.

If it has a LIPO (Lithium Polymer) battery that 40 minutes recording time will soon become 30, 20, 10, 5, and kaputt. External power supply for these devices are the way to go :) Very decent footage for the price. That little camera can be mounted pretty much anywhere.

anyone has any suggestions on what to paste on the camera mic to block out the wind noise?

i tried pasting a piece of foam over the mic and the wind noise is blocked at lower speeds...

but once i pass 70+km/h the wind noise starts to take over..

i also tried pasting black tape over the mic also same thing...
