It is only available in biposto, (not to sure about this since the pic is of a Mono)

there is no S or R for 2008 just the base model,

it will cost $12,900 in USA ($22,500 AUD and 13,500 Euro in Europe)

It will weigh 3kg less than the 1098

It will have 137 PS and 95NM

It will have a wet clutch and dealers will get them in December 07 with delivery not before Jan 2008.

It will be available in white with a red or black frame.

-Colors: Red or White

-It definitely has a wet clutch

-It definitely doesn't have a steering damper BUT can be upgraded

-No Ohlin's suspension for the 848 either

Each country's importer will decide which colours are to be brought into that country.

Bro,i already knew that 848 had only base model cause i saw from the ducati forum people place the order stating:

Colors: Red or White

-It definitely has a wet clutch

-It definitely doesn't have a steering damper BUT can be upgraded

-No Ohlin's suspension for the 848 either

Hope at least in sg should hv a steering damper or Ohlin's suspension if not the bike look funny right?

Well. if it really dosen't come with a damper im just afraid it might not even have the mount welded onto the frame.

Take for example the 749 dark, it didn't come with the damper as it is a more "budget" priced version of the 749 so therefore no mount. (its still a great bike according to reviews :thumb: )

But im pretty sure if there's no damper as standard they wouldn't leave the mounts bare and sticking out right in the rider's face. :faint:

Hope these are all just rumors and i hope mary comes back from EICMA with good news too. dosen't make any sense minus all those stuff if you think about previous middleweight superbikes.

BTW i also don't understand the rationale for wet clutch this time for a modern duc superbike.

Yup i agree with u too, even if those items never come with it,the price should be much cheaper in order to attrach customers for purchasing the bike right.

The chassis of the Duc sportsbike is the work of the pricetag, as it is frequently shown by Ming in PG, riding a 749 Dark. It's a constant debate why the price of Italian bikes are just so expensive, compared to the Jap counterparts. In the quest for optimum power, twin configuration is already at a disadvantage. But Ducati counter this with drivability.

It's either you like it, or you dun. Those who love the Duc, thinks the price is justified. Whereas ppl like me who was not sure, walk the path of pre owned Ducati. I would say the price is justified and the Showa on my bike had been good to me. My mere upgrade was the STM clutch (due wear and tear, plus I have a bro here who let me had it at a great price :thumb:), Hel lines by Bernard of VectorOne (great price) and Ohlins steering damper (need it to full bawl in T6 of PG). Nope, no Termi or whatever. Just stock cold Alu factory pipes. I did flirt with something like a RevTec, and it works for me.

But yet again, the Termis of Ming's 749 Dark is always rudely in my face.

Ming, I hate you

BTW, someone on a R6 did a 1.53 cruising PG lap on my bike. He told me the bike could go faster, but it is not nice if he accidentally crash the 748. :faint:

Well ive owned 2 2v ducs over the past well about 5 years i guess. If i get the 848 it'll be my 1st 4v duc.

I've always known ducs aren't cheap and i don't earn much. just lots of scrimping and saving and careful budgeting. Always wanted a superbike just couldn't afford 1. Well i accepted the pricetags that come with these beautiful bikes (and of course the wonderful bills that come with the servicings :dot: ) but my first class 2 bike was a duc and till now i've never considered another brand since. Loved the 916 back in early 90s and never thought i would own a duc almost 10yrs later even though not superbike category.

Nothing can discribe the joy of owning 1 of these machines (for me at least :cheeky: )

Its just that if they give THAT much cheaper components for the base 848 it feels like a ripoff if they price it for what is rumored to be in sg as compared relatively (this the correct word to use?) to previous base model middleweights. If its priced lets say 30k or less it'll be a steal for a duc superbike. If it's exactly the same goodies as on the base 1098 'cept for a smaller capacity engine and minerva gives it the 30k+ pricetag im fine with it.

Just find that its a strange marketing move my Ducati. o_O

Let's wait to see. The thing is, you see a Jap bike with Showa, and you see a 748 with Showa. Being a rider who own a Duc before, which package works better off the box? I guess you know. You could ask Eugene the first few boys who rode the 748 in PG, at the end of the day, they would be around high 1.40s, and all they need to replace on the 748 is a stiffer spring (Ohlins 100+ bucks) and an Ohlins steering damper.

And Ming's 749 Dark is a mixture of Showa and Sache components stock. He was able to properly dial in the bike and achieved 1.50s in PG.

What I meant to really say is that, a Duc comes with components that may seems cheap (everyone expect Ohlins for that price), but yet somehow, the engineer made the whole thing works with the chassis. We all know that an Aprilia Factory comes with Ohlins all over and Maschesinni wheels, at a more affordable price compared to the 9 series Duc, but why does the world still prefers the Duc? It's the fact that Duc makes everything works well as a whole.

All said, we should also look at the roots of the 848. It was built based on popular demands, for the world voice it loud enough to make Ducati build it. It was not build to generate sales or to race in the Supersports series, thus the Bologna Company would not really consider selling it cheaper to attract more sales. Looks to me a "Take it or leave it" kind of dealing here.

I might not even get the chance to wait for my so called "later generations" of the 848, to think of that. Probably looking at a 748R would be a better option for me or a used 848 next year for me here in States.

I think the price of 32k still can accept, but u compare 848 & 1098 there only few k diff,so for your opinion what bike will u get than,i bet that u will top up few k & get the 1098 right if the diff is not much,so in order to market the 848,the price must attrach buyers to consider what bike they r going to get.848 or 1098,if the price is right for the 848 i most properly will get the 848 cause mary will update me the price when she back. There only 2 choice for me 848 or 1098.Hope i will get it right for my final purchase.
