It should be phrased this way. I'm giving myself a break from sportbikes in the meantime. Looking for something different, but yes, I will get meself a Duc again. I still have some really small 748 bits and pieces.

Hi antonioshabirto

Tks for your advised & i know what im going to get after reading the reply,it help me alot for chosing this duke bike.

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20B/Ducati%20848.jpg

Its good to ride a newly in production ducati regularly as they all have niggles to sort out. Ive owned 2 new in production dukes and are the same. Its usually a problem with the electrics but the engine is quite robust, except the rollers and belts issue ive heard on the 1098.

If your looking for a comfy daily traveller, its not the bike for you. A superbike makes an uncomfortable daily ride and overheats in traffic. The marelli injection system is far different from a japanese one as when hot, air/fuel mixture is very lean that it might stall. ANyway the sensors are quite robust and can last a bit, whether slow or not. THis bike needs a track trashing occasionally and if riding daily, needs a good whack once in a while. Big grins come out of those occasions.

Im quite sure the 848 will be slightly over 31k, as was the 749. Sure there will be a small discount for full cash but not a lot more, fyi, most ducati riders who purchase from Minerva pay in full.

Current rides: Ducati 999 and X9 500 SL

You never tell him once in awhile you secretly train in PG  It is my lost that I never had the chance to track with you or gnayed. Knew you guys too late.

:thumb:

ar hah hah hah... Yeah, it'll be a wast just to do street riding and to/fro work and Fri night leisure only of course I have forgot to mention that.

Once in awhile, when I can sneak away from office, I'll ask gnayed to bring me to track for a nice run. Not so hush as what gnayed did. He's all out you know.

Cheers!

I agree with the rest . if the 848 is really on the high site.... i recommend you to get thet 1098. Its value for money......its has nothing got to do with you are riding in sg ... small road .... why big cc ...... ?? like i said .... when you get an italian .... its all abt the love of the bike and the quality it produce

Bro, I don't usually plan for track session.

What I do is snoop around here to see if anybody going on certain date.

Then. I'll see if my office allow me apply leave or whatever and then I'll join the guyz here.

It's good to learn from different people, but... I never take track session seriously. Just a smooth walking the beast round the track only. Heh heh

But following and watching the guys make corners are awesome!

Cheers!

848 is definitely costing more than 31k. I reckon you buy the 1098.

its really a better deal. 848 is being build due to commercial and demands.

Its not a specialise bike.

once you put all the add-ons, 1098 will be above 40K. the 999s i have now was base price 48K in 2005, but fully loaded well in mid-50s.

And I think full cash or not does not make a difference. I believe taking a loan will be through Hiatchi Credit and Minerva will just put a processing fee for helping you apply for a loan.

Almost all bike shop makes their money by providing finance except for Minerva.

Most people i know pay full cash anyway as mentioned by someone else before, but i also know many people taking a loan, but usually low amount, less than 30% maybe?

If the diff is 2-3k i think i will go for your comments since for 2-3k i can get better hp & higher cc,must wait until mary to confirm the price so that i can choose,if the price for the 848 not much diff from the 1098 than i think mary might hv problems to sell already & just hope mary know how to market the bike price for 848.

Hi bro,do u know what is the pc for the 1098?

If you are asking for the price, its 38k for the base model and 48k for the 1098s. Thats the price on paper, maybe if bargain can get a bit of discount?

ducatis run quite lean, for my bike, its 15-16km/l, if u maintain at abt 4-6k rpm. 4k rpm at 6th gear is already 120km/h so its by far, not slow at all, at least in sg roads. :p The bike needs the track and long malaysian roads to breathe. a ducati superbike at 8-10k roars wonderfully.

all the best on your attempt to get the 848. Im sure its got more usable power when it comes to daily riding as opposed to the big 1098. This should be a big influence, esp if ure more into daily commuting. More fun, at lower speeds. The bike should be a rare one on the roads, in time to come. Dont quite know how a rare bike affects servicing tho. i remember that somehow the 749 is much higher in servicing costs as to the 999, tho the reason of rareness could not be the issue.

But if u do get it, rider as often as u can and bring out whatever warranty issues in the first year. Also do really take a good look at brackets, welds, etc that might crack due to v twin vibes.

I kept a tab on my Fuel Consumption ever since I got my 748. I have data for at least 2 and a half yrs. On average it is 16km/L. On long trips (KL), it's possible to get 18km/l. Track riding is around 12~14km/L depending how hard I ride. My tank is 17L stated, but safely I could go 260km on a tank using the reserve too, since I always top up to the cap fully. The manual suggest leaving 10cm of space just before the tank cap, not all the way.

My buddy on his 998S claims a better mileague than me though.

Another reason to consider the 1098 over the 848 is that, in case you need to sell away the bike for whatever reason (backup plan), it will be easier to sell the 1098 rather than the 848, being most SG riders wanting more power, even if they dun need it. Plus side is next year, they will be racing the 1098 F08, it will definately bring up the hype of the 1098 (though it's a 1198 that Troy will actually be racing). Also, the 1098S are already racing in the World Superstock class, part of WSBK. 6 of them are in the series, so there will be more issues that will be sorted out in the newer 1098 model.

8~10k, that's the awesome part. Miss it very much....you could hear the airbox breathing, gasping for air WOT.

The servicing is more expensive for the 749/999R, because of the valve collet assemblies, with tapered locking collets. This means to adjust the valves, you need to take the heads off.

Yes, a Ducati simply vibrate itself to death....but somehow we luv it the way it is. Imagine I could even lose my seat keylock which came off in the tracks.

About the 848 being a rare bike, there is a difference between a rare bike and a collector's bike. The 916 was more sought for than the 748.
