Wow, exotic bike. Gezzzz, if i am there, i will definitely spend some time ogling and molesting the bike. Better if the owner is there, maybe can ask him to start the engine and let the exhaust roar.

How much does a bimota cost? same as a desmo??

where is the rooftop?

U joining us bro? Hope to ride with a fellow SS!

wow! Yr close up shots really show the beauty of the intricate design and material choices!

But to my eye, the whole is not as nice as individual parts! Hahaha! But then again, I dun have 68 big ones to blow on a bike, so better keep quiet... Nonetheless, truly exotica here. I watched the documentry on Bimota on Discovery Turbo, the history is interesting! They even raced with Honda engines! Pblm with all these exotic brand is they always end up bankrupt? Like MV?

To me, most beautiful bike in the world is the older version of the MV Agusta. Hope to collect one someday...

Do a periodical check on your oil tank and its mounting. Not too sure whether is it just restricted to europe due to their seasonal weather. Also not sure whether its due to the ethanol found in their petrol. But one thing for sale is the plastic tank is creating a big headache for ducati now.

http://www.ducatinewstoday.com/2010/11/ducati-sued-over-faulty-gas-tanks/

Ducati North America has been been sued in a class action over persistent issues related to its use of plastic gas tanks as fitted to almost all current Ducati models by a Florida owner of a 2009 Ducati 1198.

Ducati has moved to fitting plastic gas tanks in all its models bar the 1198 based models that feature an aluminum tank (1198S Corse, 1198R Corse, 1198SP). The tanks manufactured by Acerbis Plastics are also specified as original equipment in other European brand motorcycles such as Aprilia and KTM.

It appears that a number of customers have been suffering problems where the tanks swell and leak as noted in the opening paragraphs of the suit namely:-

The plastic used in Plaintiff and class members’ fuel tanks is incompatible with the motorcycles’ fuel, which causes the tanks to rapidly degrade and deform and leads to a number of unsafe conditions. Among other things, as the plastic degrades and deforms, the fuel tanks interfere with the full range of steering, leak fuel onto the engine, and destabilize the motorcycle’s weight distribution – often to the point that the motorcycle cannot be safely operated after only a few thousand miles of use.

link: Class Action Filing

There have been many complaints from Ducati owners on forums such as Ducati.ms with the Sport Classic model seemingly especially over represented. Apparently, over 240 owners have taken the time to lodge complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urging a recall.

One owner has gone to the trouble of creating a website to outline how they perceive the issue.

“The deformation is often cosmetic as seen above on a Ducati Streetfighter…..With some motorcycles the deformation causes the fuel tank to get in the way of the handlebars when making sharp turns, and with Ducati Sport Classics the deformation prevents the tank from attaching to the motorcycle frame correctly (as seen below) which might cause the tank to come off the motorcycle during a crash.”

link: Deformed Fuel Tanks

It is not clear what is causing the issue although there is speculation that small proportions of ethanol blended with gasoline in the United States may be the culprit.

For its part, Ducati North America have been replacing tanks under warranty but the law suit asserts that since the part is the same as the original the problem can reappear. The plaintiff claims that after 5 months his new Ducati 1198S required a fuel tank replacement at 2,193 miles. The problem has since reoccurred with the motorcycle now 18 months old and with 3,923 miles on the odometer.

Ducati News Today contacted Ducati North America but they offered no comment at this time.

Will we get free servicing as well?

http://www.ducatinewstoday.com/2009/06/ducatis-stimulus-package-free-servicing-for-a-year/

Ducati has announced a promotion whereby this summer purchasers of 2008-09 model year Ducatis will receive free service for a year.

The program enables a Ducati owner to simply ride and enjoy their new bike. The offer includes the first year of regularly scheduled maintenance updates on 2008 and 2009 Ducati models. All a customer needs to do for qualification is purchase a new Ducati from a participating dealer between June 4 and August 31 2009, fill out the program enrollment form and start riding.

The program includes the 2 services that could be expected in the first 12 months. Please note that the offer applies to 2008 and 2009 model year Ducati’s only so the new Streetfigther is not eligible.

The Full Factory Support maintenance program covers the first two services as outlined in your owners manual and include:

Service 1: to be performed within 6 months of delivery date or 600 miles, whichever comes first.

Service 2: to be performed within 12 months of delivery date or 7,500 miles*, whichever comes first. To be eligible for the program, Service 2 service must be completed no later than 30 days within one year of the delivery date of your motorcycle.

Don't worry I just post just in case there's an interested buyer who would cherish the 916 series.. in the mean time i am still enjoying e ride and will carry on rebuilding it. Nw the thought of convertin it to monoposto is too tempting since i just got my kub kia as a side bike :) . If i were to sell it somehow, i'll still get a ducati fer sure. See you guyz this sundae then.

My carbon pipes r rather old actually, its been on the bike since.. I guess the inner packing had already long gone, when I whack my bike too hard last night most probably the heat causes the carbon to crack. Well... sway I guess..
