hi guys

 

i new and getting addicted to vespa and have tonnes of questions.. popping up on off ...

 

heres one :

does a exclusiv 2 comes with disc brake?

if no, can i install one on it (or was it two- front and back?)

and how much does it cost to do that?

 

no 2:

when test riding a second hand bike. what are the things to take note of?

 

(i've learnt quite abit from spotting differences on models etc. from the wiki site - cheers for the effort put in there)

In answer to your questions....

 

Nope... the Excel doesn't come with a disk brake... and Yes you can install one... but it'll cost you....

 

Mind you... given that the market price for a Vespa with a disk brake is about the same as for one without... just buy a disk brake model, swap in your old fork... and sell it.... Or just sell your scoot and get a disk brake model... This will cost lots less... Kudos to Mr. Yusri for this very wise piece of advice :thumb:

 

 

Things to look out for.... well there are many.... and most are hard to describe.... Check for frame damage... (bends in frame)... a frame that is bent may well be unsafe (if bend is in critical area on legshield behind forks)... otherwise check for excessive white smoke (blown oil seal)... hard to start (piston rings worn or dodgy cdi/points) jumping out of gear (worn shifting cross)....

 

All this is easily done by an experienced scooterist... or better yet, a mechanic. I know that Tong Aik will check over a scoot for you for a nominal fee... can't remember how much though. I would have thought that Ah Joo at Jin Cheng would do the same if you approach him...
