Hey everyone.

Got one noise problem.

My Phantom works owesome but on cold engine start makes clunking sound.

I do understand couse of oil low on cold there will be some sounds "warming up" sound.

This one is much louder and it dissapears after engine warmer.

I suspect Cam Tensioner is starting to fail...what u guys think?

Thanks for advice

Is starter and or wires ok?

Sounds like starter failing i think.

Good luck

Just one click or continuous clicks as you hold the start button down?

your starter motor not turning over.. most likely electrical issue or starter motor issue..

Crankcase Breather Servicing

I am enjoying my time with my Phantom, including maintenance in addition to rides. So I was going through the service manual which states crankkcase breather to remove plug n remove deposits. Anyone did this before? Can confirm how you remove the plug? The DIY section did not specify this part-maybe it is too easy?

Release the hose chip before pulling the plug.. It's a simple job but not easy as the plug needs abit of force to pull out and not so easy to push in with the clip in place..some pliers required.

i used to have this problem before and after i overhaul my bike, after i checked that the fuel reserve is always pointing to "reserve", i decided to bring it back to "on" instead.

suddenly my bike can start normally again! maybe you can give it a try and let us know your result!

1. Check if your choke is stuck. If unsure just pull and push back just to check.

2. Your pilot circuit for carbs air fuel mixture too rich. Get a reputable mech to check ur carb to see if its an adjustment issue or other hidden problem.

anyone tried changing the rims on their phantom? specifically the rear rim.

I've tried many times to change out the POS heavy rear rim. Cannot means cannot. I do remember hearing somewhere that it's possible with a Steed/Shadow rear rim...but I can't confirm since spoke rims don't appeal to me and I've never tried it.

If you clutch in..does the sound disappear or change? Try changing a different type of EO and see if the sound persists. I think a bit premature for a cam tensioner failure diagnosis.

90% is battery. You may have been a carrot on this occasion. The battery can have enough juice to light up the small neutral light bulb..but a lot more power is required to turn the starter motor. The easy way to check is to activate your lights and see if the neutral light becomes significantly dimmer/flickers off. 1st gen can on/off headlight...other models can try signal lights + brake lights and observe the headlight + neutral light. Or get a voltmeter and check.

Hi!

Phantom TA200: Gear chattering at 4th gear. How can it happen?

Chattering means sound? Or power transmission? You may need a bottom overhaul for your 4th gear.

Hmm..if too rich, twisting the throttle should not solve the problem...the engine should sound different (dull/bloated? dunno how to describe) and won't rev up as well when you twist the throttle. You'd experience the same symptoms if you forget to disengage your choke and ride off...coz the choke reduces air in the air/fuel mixture and makes it richer. Am I missing something?

A temporary solution would be to increase your idling speed. Last time I kena before..ppl di siao and turn my idling speed down lol.

eh opening the throttle gives more air I suppose? It seems to me though for me when had I had to lean out a lil after the weather turned colder..

Technically yes..opening the throttle allows more air to enter the intake manifold, using the Bernoulli's principle (i.e. as the velocity increases, pressure falls) to suck in more fuel from the float chamber in the carb causing more fuel-air mixture to enter into the cylinder. AFAIK however opening the throttle does not make your fuel-air mixture leaner.

yup it doesnt make the a/f mixture leaner. that one will still have to fall back to adjustment of the pilot screw. how i earlier found out when i had a rich condition when i had to slightly open throttle was using my tacho to confirm the case, hence i had to lean out the pilot screw..

So meaning each time i start with a cold engine i just throttle will do???

I just worry that my bike got problem with the carbs.

sometime i use choke to start for awhile than disengage it and throttle abit now days and i also adjust the carb tune thing to warm up and tune back before i start to ride.

On a regular basis u shouldn't have to touch the carb. On 2nd thoughts have u changed filter recently? Clogged filter is possible

Mine chatter (grak grak grak) when engaging to 1st gear. Reluctant to engage into 1st gear. Engage when I "step harder" on the gear lever.

Any ideas bros n sis?

make sure you engine revs are sufficiently slow below stepping down? This works for me but I can't explain why. check your clutch free play as well.
